Orientation (Part 1)

When the accusations point towards the biggest of the gang, the giff lets out another sigh from her vertical nostrils like a steam-engine lobster "Tennessee 'Pudge Nugget' McLintlock. I should've known. We. Don't. Touch. Others. Property. Say it with me?"

"Yes Officer Mudmunch..." is all she gets.

The RA's eyes narrow suspiciously at Yahs' activity "Hmm, good work, cadet. Now for the rest of you, why don't you hit the gym if you've got so much energy? No one has yet completed the obstacle course satisfactorily today the way I hear it." the purple skinned hippo suggests.

Still planning on that next? I can get it up tonight if so. Or something else?

Lazuli continued flailing around as the officer approached, although no longer actually aiming at anyone. "I am a whirling pool of death," she muttered, "Rar."

During the brief interrogation, however, she formed up as a little gnome, and pointed her 'head' at the giff officer. "I ain't no snitch," she whistled, even as Chaeek was busy snitching. "Who knows whose pencils these are? No way to tell. Guess it's a mystery," she continued, nudging some of the clearly engraved pencils back towards Chaeek to dispose of.

"We might be going to the gym next. Might not. Who can even tell? Are we being detained?" she asked, confused about what they were supposed to be doing after all.

spacer.pngNazira "Naz" Amar

Nazira sword slid back into its sheath, blessedly unused even on the back end. As she did Naz directed a cool steady gaze towards the moon-elf. She'd seen her remark draw blood even if sword had not. Well that had been the entire point of the remark, get the source of the trouble to redirect their attentions away from her rather more excitable classmates. Of course now she'd have to make a point of following up lest she come in one day to find her sheet's soaked in goat's blood or some such petty revenge.

"Aye aye sir,"

she said simply to the order to the gym. She supposed she could object she'd shown up too late to be any real part of things but no matter.

"Everyone, shall we?"

Inspiration Yes | HP 8/8 | HD 1/1 | Step 2/2 | Shield 1/1

Recovery 1/1 | 1st-level 2/2

Celsior broadly smiles when his spectral hand catches the button from his hadozee’s mouth and signals his displeasure of the actions with a thumbs down. While they have certainly made some enemies, the melee instinctively brought his crew together. That’s a good sign that they all want to work together.

The prince watches when the officer arrives on scene. He wonders if this is how his court reacts when he enters rooms back home. Probably yes. He is surprised that no one confesses the reason for the mess. Maybe the students have as much solidarity among themselves against the faculty, as each of the crew have among themselves. Interesting.

When the suggestion comes to head to the gym, he replies with his uniform in his hands, “I need to change into uniform. I can meet you at the gym if you don’t want to wait.” The prince heads to locker room to change out of his court’s finest outfit highlighting his family’s heraldry.

After stripping to your undies together for the first (but not the last) time, you all feel a bit refreshed and certainly more proper in your magically tailored, rich red cadet uniforms. Inside the whitestone washroom are a few cadets confused about their complementary toothbrushes "How the hell do you get this thing to work...", lamenting their choice of grilled brisket sandwiches for breakfast. As you pass, your unwrinkled, fresh gear earns a glance "Hey! Lookin' sharp." slapping a friendly high five, or high pod as it were. Veena and the Jerk Squad avoid eye-contact as you make your way up to the gym, not interested in tempting their fate twice.

You walk into a strange space shimmering with a soft, ethereal glow. Slowly, the smell of sweaty socks, hormones, and champions gets stronger and stronger. As the magical haze clears, you realize the gym has a number of different zones...each reconfiguring itself to a specific type of challenge.

 • Mystical holographic obstacles explode in thunderous bursts along long straight running tracks. Runners are directly targeted by the blasts and must make their best dash, enduring the pain. (DC 10 Con saving throw. Thunder)
 • Levitating platforms move unpredictably, rising and falling to threaten a plunge into electrified pools of water below. Coursers must leap from platform to platform without slipping. (DC 10 Athletics or Acrobatics. Lightning)
 • Rapidly rotating wheels of maces pummel their way through a tangle of ropes. Swashbucklers must swing from rope to rope, avoiding the blows of the blunt force weaponry. (DC 12 Dexterity saving throw. Bludgeoning)
 • Ruby the Lubey, a red-toned plasmoid, excretes himself all over a tall skinny metal pole, taunting you to climb the slippery surface to the top and ding-a-doimage.png.c15c1cd02dded2b1e1428dc53e9c77e0.pngng a bright golden gong. (DC 12 Athletics check. Bludgeoning)

You've encountered an ever-evolving fitness challenge, the only question is: who will dominate?

Corps Cadet Popsicle is nearby as well, watching the spinning maces very closely "I can do this...its just a matter of getting the timing down..." You notice a fresh stick of dynamite tied to his belt. "Oh hai, uh...why don't you guys go first?"

Ever see that show Wipeout?

The checks need to be made in the order above. Each point above the DC gives your score a +1, while each below a -1. For each fail -5 or lower, you take 2 damage (of a type corresponding to the check). High score combined with most successful checks is considered 'best performance' and will get a little reward. Feel free to use abilities and make RP arguments for skill check Advantage, but the checks can not be bypassed (or else you are a cheater).

Reminder everyone has Inspiration.

Having already morphed into her uniform and with little of value to add regarding the great toothbrush mystery due to the rather obvious lack of teeth, Yahs hurries along to the gym. While waiting for her turn, she focuses her attention upon the various courses. A ripple of revulsion flows through her body upon seeing the crimson plasmoid wrap himself around the pole. But! But our microfilaments will intermingle! We could share fluids! Her mind cries out desperately. Even worse she suddenly imagines all of the cadets crawling, climbing along her own slippery surface. It takes every bit of self control and mind calming technique outlined in the text given to her by Tymora to keep from spewing forth the entire contents of the morning's absorbed meal, not to mention the simulation potato water. To keep herself from thinking about things further she quickly slides in line and throws herself into the booming blasts of the first course.

Upon reaching the gym, Lazuli looked on with awe, and eagerness. "Oh, yeah," she said, "I've totally got this. I was born for this!"

She bounced excitedly on the sidelines, cheering for everyone, until it was eventually her turn. Then, she raced into the obstacle course with abandon. "YOLOOOOOOOO!" she burbled as she ran through the exploding obstacles.

Well, I say she ran through them, but mostly she bounced off of them, spending way more time than was reasonable running in circles and screaming in pain and glee. "Is that all you've got! I've Ooof! Ok, that was a goo Ouch! Ugh! Hit me again, you bastards, I dare you, I Aaaaack!"

Eventually, she managed to stumble out the other side, shook herself off, and found herself flying up into the air on a platform. "Yeet!" she screamed, as she yeeted herself surprisingly quickly across the platforms and to the relative safety of the ropes.

There, her luck failed her again, as she was able to swing pretty well, and stretch to grab the next rope, but seemed to forget to let go of previous ropes even as she was repeatedly pummeled. Eventually, she was a sticky blob tying all the ropes together, until she managed to spit out the ropes she didn't want, and get out the other end.

"Ruby!" she enthused, flowing slowly up the slippery pole. "Hey, how'd you get this job? Looks pretty chill up there, we should absorb some lunch after this. Want some of my spores for a snack before I go back down?"

After getting to the top (eventually), she rang the gong, and exuded a handful of small round spores, to share a couple with Ruby. And with her friends, when they finished, if they wanted any too.

"Lou" Louis Dufray (Goblin Ranger) sheetspacer.png

AC: 16 | HP: 12/12 | Initiative: +3 | Passive Perception: 17 | Features

Lou looks over the tasks in front of us. He's not one for training, or grades, or any mandatory for that matter.

"Well, this seems dumb. But the faster we get through this the earlier we can get on a ship."

As he looks over the obstacle course, though, he decides that this might be fun. He tucks all of his weapons away and gives it his best shot.

He moves easily through the first two obstacles, avoiding the thunderous bursts and leaping gracefully over the levitating platforms. He gets a little too confident and catches one of the maces, slowing him down but not hurting him. He then manages to climb the pole but not as quickly as he had hoped.

Chaeek.jpg.2a12f9800672251476aeef41d9288fd0.jpgTrusting in his magic and natural hadozee physical abilities, Chaeek goes into the obstacle course with great (and seemingly unwarranted) confidence.

He tries to power through the holographic minefield, relying on his people's natural resilience but the explosions prove to be a good deal more punishing than he was expecting.

He uses a bit of divinatory magic to give him an edge on the levitating platforms but still can't seem to figure out how they'll move. Then he attempts to glide from a higher to lower platform but doesn't really have the height to pull it off.

He figures that he'll be a natural on the ropes what with his feet to help him grab and grip, but his feet can't do anything about the maces and gets buffeted around as he tries to traverse the obstacle.

The pole, again, giving his strong ability to climb and ability to use his feet for extra gripping, seems like it would be easy for him and he uses his divinatory cantrip again to give him more of an edge. And this time he does manage to navigate the obstacle successfully and ring the gong, but it's a near thing and not at all impressive.

ooc

Chaeek will cast Guidance on himself before the skill checks. He'll also cast it on anyone who wants it before going in, but can only give to them once since it requires touch.

He'll use his inspiration on the DC12 Dex Save to get advantage.

Since the first trial is about enduring pain, could I expend a use of Hadozee Resilience to get advantage on that one?

spacer.pngCelsior Loriniscil, Prince of Alfheim

Inspiration Yes | HP 4/8 | HD 1/1 | Step 2/2 | Shield 1/1

Recovery 1/1 | 1st-level 2/2

Celsior’s undergarments are the finest you’ve every seen. He struggles into his uniform having discretely watched his fellow non-plasmoid’s put on their uniforms. Almost as if he has always had someone assisting to dress. The prince looks very proud at getting dressed and admires himself in a mirror.

At the gym, he tries not to show his terror. Physical activity is not his strength, and his fear of failure with an audience almost makes him vomit. When its his turn, he takes several deep breathes to calm and focus himself before heading into the holographic obstacles trying to dodge the thunderous explosions along the way.  One burst is about to engulf him, but he trips out of the way ball of thunder.

The prince transitions to the levitating platforms moving unpredictably, rising and falling to threaten a plunge into electrified pools of water below. The elf leaps from platform to platform slipping twice.

Heading into the rapidly rotating wheels of maces pummeling their way through a tangle of ropes, the princes attempts to swing from rope to rope and fails to avoid several blows of the blunt force weaponry.

Finally, the battered prince attempts to climb the slippery, skinny metal pole and fails to make it halfway falling to the ground. He limps back to the group too physically injured to worry about his wounded pride.

Nazira "Naz" Amarspacer.png

Naz showed no signs of embarrassment and kept a face of studied disinterest as she stripped down to her off white skivvies and pulled on her new uniform, only fumbling slightly at the new buttons in new places. A curious onlooker might note an odd mark perched atop her left shoulder, a tattoo in some swirling abstract shape maybe, but this one shimmered ever so faintly and while the touch of magic was obvious those skilled in arcane knowledge might note that it didn't quite match any form of magic marking seen in the Realms.

Once dressed Naz looked herself over wondering how they'd gotten the fit down. Magic? Probably. She hadn't worn spellcloth in a long time, once the clothes she'd run away from home in had gone. As they made their way through the bowels of the academy she did her best to avoid drawing any comment on the shiny new outfit by keep her eyes forward an purposeful.

"Oh yeah, no sweat, right guys?" she remarked wryly on the challenges laid out before them.

While others went Nazira studied each challenge briefly. She done a few things like this before, swinging between skyships over the Bay of Taertal back home had been especially fun, at least until you went falling down into the water just close enough below to save you. Really much at the academy was familiar to Naz, it seemed sailing the stars involved much akin to what she'd already spent years of her life doing. What she'd still be doing if not for the mark upon her arm and the revelations that had come with it. Somewhere out there was where her mother had come from, and somewhere out there still her father might still be alive. Thinking of that the mark stirred on her arm, though likely not visible through the sleeve of her uniform. Actually that might be of help with some of this come to think of it. Naz was quick and nimble enough and her body well condition from her experiences but a varied challenge like this would test that. Stepping up Nazira stretched and readied herself

"Alright, maximum effort,"

With that Naz took off at her best speed through the first obstacle. That seemed the key to first struggle and she trusting an adolescence of scrambling over decks now not later to carry her through. At the second challenge Nazira lowered her speed as her eyes narrowed in concentration. Ever since her mark had come she'd felt a special affinity for the wind, storms, and moving things and while not quite a heaving deck in a late summer blow the moving platforms had all those elements. And if she took a tumble well Naz discovered shocks of thunder had little effect on her. Once past Naz grabbed the line with vigor and let out a mighty yell as she swung. Not that she expected mere objects to be intimidated but it made her happy and focused her efforts to swing from side to side as far from the spinning bludgeons as she could. Coming to land before the final pole Nazira eyed the conscious covering. Well nobody had said she had to wrestle the plasmoid did they? Just climb the pole?

"Your pardons sir could you please move?" Naz said with exaggerated politeness and a short bow, before suddenly thrusting her palm forward and speaking an arcane word. A great rush of air suddenly buffeted the pillar, rippling the ruby plasmic embracing it. At the center of the burst a bit of bare column appeared... and just as quickly disappeared as the plamoid defender of the pole rallied. Well her magical abilities had grown quite a bit Naz clearly had a ways more to go. With that she vaulted up the pole.

"Hard way it is then."

Finally a rather slimier half-elf then had started the challenge made her way to its end.

image.png.e8eeefc04c38fa4bde8f8a22ce9ee6bf.pngA tabaxi wearing an officer's colors and stylish workout sweatband drops from the ceiling "Mmmmmwell nyow, this is interesting isn't it? Great performance both of you...it seems we have a tie. I'm afraid there is only one way to settle it..." She motions over to a shadowy magical zone, which suddenly alights in a pink glow. A cylindrical arena of only about 20 ft span rises from the floor, bearing a pair of Kal-if-ee...a traditional weapon from Genespace. "The first to be tripped, knocked out of the ring, or KO'ed loses." taking a swig of muscle milk from an unstoppered glass bottle.

The other cadets delight in the impending test of martial prowess, especially one featuring the popular winner of the Emerald Commendation. As you both don your protective gear, the crowd swells in anticipation...

I'll roll initiative for you guys, and you start adjacent to each other in the center of the ring. You can make contested checks (Athletics vs Ath/Acro) or just wail on each other. The Kal-if-ee does 1d10+str or dex and neither of you are proficient. I hope we are mature enough to handle this minor 'pvp'.

AC: 16 | HP: 12/12 | Initiative: +3 | Passive Perception: 17 | Features

Lou leaves his own weapons off to the side and takes the two-handed staff. It's surprisingly light, which is good given his diminutive stature. While he would have preferred to use his own bow and sword, a lethal fight probably doesn't make much sense. He has no ill will towards Naz and thinks she seems pretty decent.

"Well, this seems dumb, too. But I'll play along. Once we finish this, can we get a ship?"

He still doesn't like all these rules and games, but again decides to make the most of it. Hitting others can be fun. He swings first, but misses badly, leaving himself open for a counterattack.
