Miranda followed along through the oohs and aahs of the group as they saw the wonders of the aquarium, a pleasure denied her. She reached out with her other senses but these were also hampered a little by the various glass walls and balconies present. As she walked she honed her attention on her benefactor and the way he treated his staff, and servants, trying to pick up on any little hidden insights

As the conversation turned to gold and compensation Miranda spoke "You have provided much, but the mists of sight lack some details, the hippocampus to be transported and cared for, how? And as there will be a nest and mares would they be additional for a breeding set? I foresee one future where you start to breed the exhibits and release and protect the additional creatures, this would bring you more fame and fortune."

Whilst the last statement was perhaps not directly gifted to her by her goddess, it was phrased to be a possible future, which felt right.

"Also it would be prudent of us to withdraw and discuss your proposal, we would have some logistics to discuss, etc.
Might we have a moment to discuss this in private Master Vasilis"

"Oh that is wonderful news Daedalus!" Vasilis exclaims with a twinkle in his eye, bracelets jangling as he waves his arms, "I knew you were a fellow lover of the sea the second I caught sight of you!" You strongly suspect the merchant is engaging in some gentle teasing, and has absolutely pegged that it is love of gold rather than love of nature driving your actions. Whatever gets the job done though.

Vasili's turns towards the oracle, bowing his head slightly. It always served to show respect to someone who had the ear of the gods. Or vice versa as it may be. "Lady Miranda, as I mentioned previously - forgive the impertinence you were perhaps distracted by the stunning myriad merfish - I will provide a specialised cart devised by my own dear Dimitrius that should serve for a couple of days. A tank on wheels effectively both mechanical and magical in nature. As to the rest of the creatures I only require the stallion. I would not presume to commercialise Thassa's creatures. If another wishes to claim their own hippocamp, they can strive to do so themselves!"

He stands with a twirl at your request, nodding. "Of course, of course. Please continue to avail yourselves of refreshments as you discuss - should you need any more simply summon one of the servants by shouting. They're very discreet, but always on hand. Come Dimitrius, we need to discuss the coral growth anyway." He strolls off down the pavilion, chatting with his advisor who shuffles after. You catch the tail end of shaping growth into a sculpture of Thassa surrounded by rising waves...

Aristaeus continues to eat and fill his backpack with food that can carry well. "So, we going?" He asks between chewing.

"Are we going directly there, or guiding our way through town?" The big man tries to be subtle.

As the echoes of the footsteps of their wealthy host and his scholarly minion gently diminish as the pair walk away down the expansive marble corridors, babbling about sculptured coral, the quartet of adventurers take a moment to discuss their options at this point.

The handsome thief, with a gleam in his eye, rubs his hands together in giddy expectation. "Well, well, well.... You heard the man -- a retainer fee of 10 gold per day, out to a week, for each of us with a 100 gold bonus should we actually bring this whozawhatzit back to him."

"Daedelus" thinks about it for a minute, then adds, "I think we should just take the retainer fee and disappear. What do you others think?"

As Autarkos suggested veering from the quest to seize the retainer, Miranda, attuned to the unseen forces that shaped their destiny, felt the currents of fate intertwine with their choices. She stepped forward, her voice carrying a resonance that transcended the mundane. "Daedelus," she spoke with an ethereal cadence, her words like whispers from the beyond,

"our journey is a tapestry woven by celestial hands. Before we act, let us seek the wisdom of the divine and consider that there may be more to this quest than meets the eye. The stallion is not merely a prize to be captured, but a guardian of a sacred herd, a creature bound by its own celestial purpose. "

She looked reverently towards the loveable rogue, "There is more to life, than the mundane that you see before you"
Miranda turns and somehow focuses on him "Daedelus, remember, in chasing the mundane, you risk overlooking the extraordinary."

Aristaeus continues to eat and fill his backpack with food that can carry well.

He frowns at Daedalus's suggestion, "yeah. I'm not taking his money and do nothing."

"The only question that I have is if we're asking our mysterious friend for help or not." The giant continues to eat. There's no question if he has the room to put the quantity of food.

Horrified at the so-called oracle's words as well as the giant's determination to accept the dubious assignment, the dashing scoundrel turns to the last of their group, Kheiron of Meletis, for his take on all this.

"Tell me that we shouldn't do this, Kheiron, please! Can't we just take the money and run?"

Kheiron of Meletis (CG Variant Human Nyxborn Wizard of Keranos)

Kheiron had been unusually quiet, the turmoil in his head all but visible tempest to the others as well. Something, everything about this seems illogical. Why would Vassili need us for such a mundane task? Why would the underground specifically warn us against him? How did he know who we are and whence we come? What is Thassa's part in all of this? We lack a crucial piece of the puzzle and yet choosing a way to find that piece automatically places us on a side of the game board without an idea of what the game is...

"I do believe we should map the task and what it requires a bit more, but I do believe that should we take the money, the task is something we should complete. And I do believe we should ultimately take the task anyways. I am satisfied with my knowledge of hippocamps and the journey shouldn't be overtly difficult, but we do of course have to prepare for unforeseen obstacles and issues, and I believe we ought to retreat to discuss proper preparations in more detail." As he talks, it is clear Kheiron is not quite as certain as normal; being on the wrong side of the information blackout did not sit well with him and while he could piece together some parts, the big picture still lacked crucial information.

After a little while, Vasilis strolled back in alongside Athenia, still sporting a wide smile. "Everyone is happy then I assume, hm? No further questions? If so, I'm sure you wish to get started right away - I'll not delay you any longer. I'll obviously pay today at the retainer fee, Athenia here will organise your payments, and the carriage can be collected any time from my estate,"

With that, he leaves, leaving you with the strong impression of being dismissed. Notably, the free food and drink seems to stop flowing as well, servants appearing to silently sweep away trays and tidy up around you. Athenia withdraws 4 small pouches from beneath her royal blue cloak, handing one to each of you. "You can, of course, collect the rest either when you return or daily - though if you're coming by every day you'll never make it to the hippocamp," she adds smiling. She leads you back to the estate entrance - a much quicker route without needing to wind through the aquarium it seems, and you shortly find yourselves presenting before the city proper again, guardsmen marking your names as you enter.

You travel back through the City of Passage, bustling and noisy in the early afternoon sun. Already in sharp contrast to the cleanliness of the estate you see packs of gulls set upon discarded fish-heads, fighting over scraps with stray dogs. The harbour itself though is quieter, day boats out, night boats in and crews sleeping. It doesn't take long to find you way back to the Gilded Goat. The lunchtime crowd has largely left, only a few late comers still sitting and drinking, giving you relatively privacy in the main tavern. The keeper offers the remainder of a fish broth with bread for lunch, but aside from the prodigious appetite of the half-giant, most of you are still feeling replete from Vasilis generous offerings. As you lean back on oaken chairs, gold comfortably heavy in your purses with the promise of more just a day away, you discuss your next moves. From Vasilis' description, the lagoon where the hippocamp herd is nesting is approximately two days travel south along the coast, so you've not got that long before you start spending paid time in pursuit of the bonus.

Aristaeus packs away the last of the food available before the servants recover the platters and usher them on their way. He accepts his purse in turn and tucks into his gear.

The giant accepts the keeper's offer and eats while they discuss. "So, with or without the guide? I'm sure they spied our return."
