"It wasn't good work. I just tried to extort a man who is losing everything he has because of a monster WE didn't kill fast enough. I know this world sucks, doesn't mean we have to..." She pouts the entire way up until they notice Niko went too far ahead. "This is on us... we know... you know, right? Her daughter was killed by one? Why did we let her go ahead without us?"

 

"I can sneak get into the camp ahead of you guys. I can just look like one of them and then get closer before I do my... thing."

Murdian is taken aback by Aaliyah's answer but replies: "It was good work because you said smart things. And its thanks to us its dead at all. Not everything is your fault, girl. It is selfish to think it is; world may be rotten, but we all do the best we can. Can you imagine cursing someone who saves your life because they didnt do it fast enough? We will need to have a talk about... your past. Later. As for Niko..no. I was not told that. But I could see how bad her reaction was, and should have guessed. I also wanted to talk to him, with her, but she left me out. Either I ran off as well, and left you lot out to dry or..." He shrugs. "Dunno how well you sneak, but unless you can mask your scent, you're not getting close. I can disappear entirely and they were still alerted... And I made sneaking a living. But... if we approach from upwind, I can overgrow the south end of the hills. Trap them there." He sketched the area in the dirt with a stick. "...Two hills here, we can get atop of. If i can catch most of them in the spell... then we funnel them into a chokepoint. I can creep up and tell Niko what we're doing... then she withdraws a bit, and we start. Tel... I dont think they'd use him as a hostage. They have no reason to think we value him. If I see them threaten him, I can teleport him to me." He looked up from his sketch. "...Thoughts?"

Barkvin nods. "Argh, Murdain is right. You did good, we did good. No use second guessing or feeling guilty. We can only do what we can. We can only save who we can save, we can't save everyone..." He trails off, then puts on a brave smile. "Thinking that way will only bring you down, me hearty. Chin up." Then to the combat plans he nods. "Aye, sounds like a good plan, lets go. Aaliyah, are ye going to rush into battle or stay back and throw spells." He asks. It seems that her combat style had changed recently.

"Right. No time to lose." Murdain nodded to each of the group. "I am going up onto the hill and will stay prone to not be noticed till its time. Since I'm experienced in stealth, I'm going to get a little closer. Wind's on our side for most part, but dont go to far west once you're also on the hill." He warned Barkvin. "Still a few of them that could smell you if you do." He turned to the others. "Pick your positions well. We're likely in for one hell of a fight. If you see them rushing me, do NOT stand in front of me, blast wont differentiate. If we need to talk while creeping up on them, I will speak into your head."

Having said all that, he drew his breath. "Wait till I reach the top, then go." Murdain shifted the hook of his color-shifting cloak over his head and faded from sight, making a complicated gesture. "Gods be with you." He muttered, starting his climb. They would have seconds to sync up their movements, because going forward without being detected as a full party was near impossible. But even a few seconds and a couple spells could turn the tide of the fight. When Nikoletta was in sight, he sent ~"In position. Others coming around. Suggest you pull back north, funnel them."~ And then to Tel: ~"Tel, its Dain. If you're able to get yourself free, sneeze. If not, cough. Do not speak. Just wait."~

OOC: Once people are in position, Murdain will crawl forward and cast Plant Growth on are indicated on map. I would like to do this while OUT OF SIGHT of the dragonborn as he's an unknown factor and might have counterspell.

"I'd prefer to show you something unique about my wolf," Niko mutters, drawing her sword and dragging it down her thigh. She shivers slightly as the blade cuts into her, a slight rush that goes through her body. The blood freezes on it and continues to cool the air around it. "I'm not... like you..."

 

"You killed my daughter... I'm going to feed on your heart tonight and slaughter every wolf in this camp. You're all going to die... and then I'll join you in Hell, knowing my work is done."

 

Niko lunges.

Barkvin slowly climbs up the rock next to the encampment. Staying low to stay out of sight he watches Murdain get into position and prepares to cast a spell. When he hears Niko attack, Barkvin stands to that he can see the dragonborn and the half orc/half goliath and calls on the goddess to stop them. "Goddess of the Sun hold our enemies fast." He casts hold person.

 

 

Mechanics *

MOVE: into position on top of the rock to see both the dragonborn and the half orc/ half goliath.

ACTION: Cast hold person at 3rd level to target two people (the dragonborn and the half orc/ half goliath) DC 15 WIS save. Will use a luck if one of them succeeds the save. If both succeed the save he will use a luck against the dragonborn to try to make him fail.

BONUS ACTION: none

 

REACTION: If anyone within 30 ft of Barkvin hits him with an attack he will use Warding Flare to give disadvantage.

CONCENTRATION: Hold Person

 

OOC: As this battle may move forward over the weekend, Next round Barkvin will cast Fireball on the group of enemies (preferably to help Niko, but on the largest group possible). After that Barkvin will cast Sacred Flame and Spiritual Weapon. First on any that climb up on the rock to attack him, second choice on the dragonborn.

Free 1 level bump whenever plus benefits of a long rest. Need to add arm stats

Aaliyah sighs and reaches for the staff but it's already in her hands. "Oh you're just so eager for this. I hate you so much," she says to it, quickly adding, "do it then." A swarm of angry fey spirits begin spinning around her as she rushes the camp.

 

As soon as they come into sight, she holds up the hand with her focus on it and the green lines all over her body are pulled into the focus, becoming prismatic at first and then red as a ball of fire forms in her hand. "I'm sorry," she says to the men before throwing the fireball at them. She chases the fireball so that it explodes just before she jumps into their midst.

 

OOC: Pre-casting Spirit Guardians. Anyone who starts within 15 feet of her - all of them? - will take 3d8 necrotic damage and be forced to half speed unless they make a DC 16 Con save. She then casts fireball for 31 fire damage, DC 16 Dex for half and runs into melee so her new aura does work!

OOC: Quick mid-turn update while Hyal and Ved get in their posts.

 

Indominus fails but he's going to use a legendary resistance. He's also going to use a legendary action on Niko's turn to activate wild rage.

 

Niko. You sheath your blade is umbral ice and Indominus knows what you're going to do next. He hasn't lived this long by accepting sucker punches. Before you even begin speaking, his eyes flash red and an aura of tumultuous silver energy begins flashing around him. Then some kind of holy light wraps around both him and the dragonborn. The Dragonborn man never moves, remaining seated and appearing calm even once bound. Indominus turns his gaze towards Barkvin and vanishes.

 

Barkvin, Murdain and, I believe, Hyal. You see Niko draw her sword and Barkvin casts his spell. Then Indominus just shrugs that spell off and vanishes in a flash of- "Well well well, my pup brought her pack with her," you hear from just behind you.

Hjallmyr waits until the others start their attack, then lets off a fireball on the three groups of enemies southwest of Niko, just barely not catching her in the blast. He then waves his hand over his spellbook, and a spectral tome emerges from it. The ghostly book overs next to Hjallmyr, emitting dim light.

 

He was closer to the leader than he wanted to be, but he also didn't want to get separated from his allies. He could still misty step away if they tried to come at him, after all. Ho only hoped that he could thin their numbers before the rest of the group was overwhelmed.

 

(OOC: Hjallmyr casts fireball for 31 damage, DC 16 reflex for half, and summons his Awakened Spellbook)

The big one disappears, and already the plan is gone. In some ways, Kirit prefers it that way. Just take care of things as they come up. He runs through the nearest enemy and moves towards where the press is thickest.

Most of the lesser wolves were ash already. Their inability to invoke their lupine forms at will made them an easy massacre, the reason Iaeus wanted them extinct. However, there is one clutch of men who begin howling as Indominus begins his rage. They transform in the middle of the day and Kirit and Niko find themselves faced with a frenzied assault. One slashes Niko's arm while the other leaps onto her back and bites into her collar. Kirit dodges one slash and deflects another but two sets of teeth find purchase, one grabbing at each arm. They thrash a bit and he slips free but his arms are torn open.

 

Meanwhile, up above, Indominus swings at Barkvin but catches only shield. Then he delivers a powerful front kick that drives through your armor and sends you teetering backwards. "Your pack has soft hands, granddaughter. I'm gonna have to cull a few of them to toughen them up." Down below, the dragonborn breaks out of Barkvin's spell and slowly stands up, cracking his neck and stretching his wings a bit.

 

 

OOC: Kirit takes 17 piercing damage. Niko takes 20 piercing.

Barkvin takes 11 bludgeoning damage. Make a DC 16 STR save or the kick sends you off this little hill and you take 13 fall damage.

"'Ello there, gramps. Soft hands, eh? So 's yer 'Well Done' better?" Murdain' face pulled back in a wild grin that was half snarl, half laugh. "Ma shoulda left ye ta rot, stead of lettin' ya out from yer kennel. Goddess, an here I thought I'd see some sorta proud fallen warrior as ancestor. Yer just a rabid dog. Well... Lets dance, then." He pulled his wolfheaded knife free from its sheathe, flicking it over in his hand. The cold voice in his hand intoned an incantation, and he repeated it. To Niko, he sent mentally: ~"He's up here."~

Update: The four men with red dots cannot transform and are trying to get away but it's slow going. The overgrown grass has caught fire and it starting to slowly spread.

 

Murdain, your magic feels greasy, hard to grasp. It's like your metaphysical fingers slip and while your spell works, some of the magic washes over you. You aren't sure what it did but you've felt this before...

 

OOC: If you cast a spell within 15 feet of Indominus, roll 1d100 for me.

The half goliath's mighty kick sends the half orc flying off the side of the rock. He lands with a thud on the ground. The cleric gets up and dusts himself off, backing up. Apparently, he was the soft one to be culled. This did not bode well. "Aye, Goddess send this son of the darkness back to his hole." A flare of sunlight streaks down from the sky to where Indominous is standing. Then a golden flaming sword appears in front of him and takes a swing at the brute.

 

Mechanics *

MOVE: Stand up from prone and walks back about 10 ft

ACTION: Cast Sacred Flame on Indominous DC 15 DEX save or 10 radiant damage.

BONUS ACTION: Cast Spiritual Weapon to attack Indominous. 19 to hit for 10 force damage.

 

REACTION: Whoever Indominous attacks, he will use Warding Flare to give him disadvantage on his first attack.

CONCENTRATION: none

 

OOC: Don't forget his reaction. (Since he missed the first attack last round anyway, no big deal it didn't matter.)
