Quotara

Twishing a ring, quotara stands as her tail changes back into legs, letting her skirt simply hang around her tights. "I would love to join you, but I might not be so good at throwing. I tend to get up close."

While her lower body is on e again kegs, she remains with the accent scales on her hands and cheeks and shoulders. On being greeted she gives a slight bow. "A pleasure Frenza. I hope we shall be working together under the Captain soon."

"Why, a talking cat! I appreciate the gesture - and your self-restraint at not pouncing on me - but I have more than enough shiny!" Zette twirls, her dress shimmering and lights dancing about.

spacer.png

As Zette twirls, I face Quotara. "I do hope so. I am of the opinion that the whole of Andaron is not adequately prepared. A Letter of Marque for the Swift Vengeance is a step in the right direction."

I floatMage Hand my dagger back to my hand, sheathe it, and continue. "Have you much experience shipboard?" I look from Quotara to Erika and the blondie, as though asking all three.

Flicking her wrists to make two of he own daggers appear in her hands, each one with a crystal on the bottom of the pommel before flicking them back away. "Raised at sea on a little cutter known as The Sail's Edge, last three years working up to Midshipman on the Resolution for the Navy. I can't agree more on that sentiment and long for the Swift Vengeance to live up to it's name."

I try to remember any stories or knowledge of The Sail's Edge and Resolution.

"So you were in the Navy! Why are you not now? I mean - only if you don't mind answering, of course."

spacer.png Zette keeps twirling.

spacer.pngWith the jingling ball in hand, Gatto stood there staring at it wondering why his precious toy was rejected. He sniffed the air momentarily and then saw the mermaid, she had pretty scales, but Master had warned him that they may not like to be touched, and taste nothing like tuna or swordfish, one of Gatto's favorite seafood. Stuffing the silver ball back into his belt pouch, he walks up and pulls the daggers from the wall and sets them back on the table. It seems the game came to a premature end.

Instead he turned into one of his comfortable kitten forms and wandered about the patrons, brushing against their legs hoping to get pets while doing so.

Trask

spacer.pngA new face approaches the Purple Dolphin, slightly nervous but determined not to show it. Trask took in the painted sign and the sheer size of the inn, the largest in the area by a good margin, and knew he had come to the right place.

Stepping inside he was hit by a veritable wall of noise as the cacophony from the main common area washed over him. The young lizardman looked around wide-eyed, taking in the rowdy crowd of sailors singing and drinking and swapping stories. This was what he had been looking for. This was the brotherhood of the sea he'd heard about and Trask couldn't wait to join in.

Spotting the woman behind the desk and her sign, Trask greeted her politely. "Hello, I'm here for the interview. Officers upstairs I see. Thank you!" He nodded appreciatively and headed up to the third door on the left where a hadozee with an eyepatch and a tricorn hat was waiting.

At his enquiry the young lizardman introduced himself and considered the what he had to offer for a moment before answering.

"My name is Trask," he said simply, giving no last name for he had none. "I'm here to join the Swift Vengeance and serve under Captain Zentaru. I hear she is the best and her ship is renowned. As for what I bring, I'm a people person. I speak six languages and I can get along with just about anyone. I think I would make a good liaison between the Captain and the crew or maybe negotiating with merchants for supplies. Beyond that I'm pretty good in a fight. I've got magic and I'm a good swimmer." He pointed a thumb back at the glowing ball of light floating over his right shoulder. "I'm also bringing this one with me. Say hello Lux!"

spacer.pngThe floating orb bobbed in a figure eight pattern, its light pulsing faintly. "Hello!" it said brightly, it's voice sounding like a choir of angels echoing from afar. "Lux is a good friend to have. He speaks every language, he can fly and he can go just about anywhere in a pinch," Trask explained, even more enthusiastic at introducing his friend than himself.

"I'm sure the Captain can find a use for us," the young lizardman said hopefully. "If all the officer spots are filled I'd be happy to sign on as a Midshipman, help wherever I'm needed and learn the privateer's life from her."

Having said his piece, Trask waited until his name was called for an interview after which he headed down to the common room to see what interesting characters had been similarly lured by the call of the sea to sail on the Swift Vengeance.

Shaking her head Quotara answers. "The navy is still rebuilding and thus is being defensive and passive. I wish to serve but... as I said, I desire Swift Vengeance."

Lore Check Results for Frenza

The Sail's Edge is known for being a smaller craft and runs the trade lanes not carrying cargo itself but selling fresh supplies (Rum, soap, fruit, etc) to the larger merchant ships. While Captain Beckett is an older woman, it means she is well experienced and savvy, and is welcome in any port.

The Resolution is a newer Andoran Navy ship, a mid-sized frigate designed for heavier armor and guns with a smaller crew thus meaning it has a shorter operational range. It's Captain is Nora Townsend, a prodigy out of the Naval Academy and one of the youngest ever captain such a ship. Some believe it a mistake to rush such an inexperienced officer into such a command, others consider it a brilliant move to break old ways of thinking.

Dorian Hawkwind

Dorian helps himself to a glass of wine in celebration of his win in the last round.

"Thank you ladies," he says, taking a sip and giving Erika a bow of gratitude. "It is a rare pleasure to face such generous, and beautiful, opponents." ☺️

Although he is quite happy to continue the contest into another round, he won't belabour the issue if the others have had enough of the game and would rather just converse over a few bottles of fine wine. Dorian is perfectly happy surrounded by a bevy of lovely ladies, a cat and a small dragon. There's no reason we can't assume the dagger-throwing contest is still going on in the background, if that suits people, but it's not essential.

"So... I've been observing and it looks like each of us has some magic tricks up our sleeves. We've seen a few of the more practical, though less flashy, examples that people have been deploying. But what would you claim to be your most impressive trick? The one that people will stop and stare and go "Wow!" about?" 😊

"For myself... I think my most visually impressive trick is probably to summon up a swarm of long writhing tentacles, like those of a great sea beast. I've used that trick to block areas of an enemy ship to stop the crew moving around freely. It was quite a sight!" 😀

"How about the rest of you? What do you have?" ☺️

Rubbing against Dorian's leg, "Meow." looking up, "Spiess, spiess everywhere, not goods to do or says too meowch."

Sitting on Dorian's tip of his foot, he can feel the full weight upon it, slowly increasing to over 400lbs, then he stands up again and walks around his legs back to his playful self. Then repeats, "Show offs to Captain not pretty ladiess."

Manny

Harpooner.png.c8711a8d655ae1c088aa6f0213263230.png
"A calm sea does not make a skilled sailor, nor does an easy fight make a true warrior."

Manny, having registered his name for the interview, made his way back through the bustling tavern. His eyes caught a peculiar scene at the dartboard—a motley crew of a sentient cat deftly flicking its tail, merfolk whose scales shimmered under the dim light, alongside humans and fae, all engrossed in a spirited game. The diversity of the assembly brought a warm, genuine smile to his face. It was a vivid reminder of the countless faces and stories the sea brought together, each wave a new narrative.

Navigating through the lively chatter and occasional bursts of laughter, Manny approached the bar. The air was rich with the mingling aromas of ale and hearty meals, a stark contrast to the briny ocean breeze he was so accustomed to. He ordered an ale and a bowl of meat stew, deciding to indulge in the land's bounty. The thought of soon being limited to bread and cheese on the open sea made him savour the moment even more.

As he waited, Manny took in the ambience of The Purple Dolphin. The worn wood of the bar, the tales whispered in each corner of the room, and the anticipation of setting sail again filled him with a sense of belonging. This brief respite on land was a treasure in itself, a moment to enjoy the solid ground beneath his feet before embracing the call of the salt and wind once more.

Manny placed his food near the dartboard, observing the social ballet unfold as diverse beings mingled and competed, each taking turns in the shared spotlight with grace and camaraderie.

Vae belatedly realized he had heard a voice addressing him, there had been a long moment of confusion before he the worked out it was the dog who had previously been introducing itself to Garth.

Adalmar (upstairs)

"Indeed, good sir, I caught your introduction, and your name rings a bell. Did you work for Captain Sunny Sarah some years back? I did some weatherwork for her on a round-trip, after you had moved on, and heard quite the tales about you, if you are indeed that person.

I'm Adalmar, by the way, a shaman."

Lastanor Nightwater

SahuaginDDtransparent.png.25eb0739bea280163e7e1e369828781c.pngLastanor nodded his head as he backed out of the captain's room, post-interview, his clothing shifting once more into Robes of the Mysterious Anonymous Cloaked Figure.

Moving to make his way back to the ground floor of the tavern, to meet and greet potential divers, he turned and waved to Garth. Before promptly doing a double-take.
Scales.
Ball of light.

Seemingly as though called, a cloudy wisp emerged from beneath Lastanor's robes and drifted towards Trask and Lux, followed shortly by Lastanor himself.
"Excuse me...Trask and Lux, was it?" he asked as he approached, lifting his hood to reveal his fishy head, "My name is Lastanor. If I may ask, how did you two find each other?"
The sahuagin looked at the wispy spirit that had emerged from his robes and was now floating back and forth between Trask and Lux; "That spirit...I don't know their name, but I found them in an abandoned temple, lost beyond where light could reach. I wondered if you two had found each other in a similar encounter."

Trask

spacer.pngTrask turned at the sound of his name, Lux moving with him to hover at his side as it always did. The fishy creature which introduced himself as Lastanor was a kind the lizardman had never seen before and he was intrigued!

"Yes! Trask and Lux is right. It's a pleasure to meet you Lastanor." The young lizardman might have been going for a good impression with his polite speech but it was somewhat marred by the fact that his eyes couldn't help but rove all over the strange fish man's face and as much of his form as could be seen. He had left the monastery looking for adventure, to travel to distant lands and meet interesting people and here he was meeting one right here at the inn!

After a moment he realised he was staring and that Lastanor had asked him a question. "Oh, uh, no. Actually I summoned Lux here through a ritual." He explained briefly. "He had never been to this plane before and wanted to explore so we partnered up and he's been with me ever since. Say hello Lux." Trask turned slightly, gesturing for Lux to come forward a bit and meet their new friends.

spacer.png"Hello!" The glowing orb chorused brightly, bobbing in greeting to Lastanor and his spirit companion. "Your way sounds much more exciting though, exploring an abandoned temple! Do you do that a lot? If you find another one, take me with you!" Trask's imagination was fired with dreams of exploring ancient ruins and uncovering hidden secrets. For some reason the version of himself in his daydream was wearing a hat and carrying a whip, but he didn't question it. Somehow it just seemed right.

Trask took a closer look at the wispy spirit curiously as it floated between them. "Do they speak at all? Lux can speak to anyone, as long as they have a language of some kind. Maybe we can learn their name!" He suggested hopefully. "It sounds like you really helped them out though, rescuing them from being lost in the dark. I'm sure they're grateful to you. Right?" he asked the little spirit.

The Dart Game

Erika smiled softly as Quotara and Gatto both introduced themselves, humming softly to herself as she took a sip of her ‘ale’. Tales of mermaids were well known in Farnasia, and they typically always had the same warning that one gives romances with elves… There is only sadness down that path. The lives of those who live on solid ground and those who live beneath the waves are quite different, and it is best to not invest too much in those who could just as easily disappear with the tide. It wasn’t to say that the mer were bad people… Just Erika kept her expectations low and was prepared to be pleasantly surprised.

The overly large feline was a bit of a mystery for the middle aged bard. Cats were familiar, yes… But your average feline, even a well kept and fed could weigh in at maybe twenty pounds. This one appeared to be closer to twenty felines merged into one. Without a whole lot of information to go on, she extended the hand not holding her drink for Gatto to sniff if he so chose. ”Do you find it difficult to chase the rats into the bilge?”  Erika asked curiously as she looked down at Gatto, slightly to the side and down of his face to prevent the appearance of a challenge. “Or do you mean rodents of the Iverinan variety?”

Erika looked up as Zette’s question caught her attention. “A few decades.” Erika said simply before she took a drag of her ‘ale’, enjoying the familiar taste of pears on her tongue. I miss home.  She thought sadly for a moment, having trouble finding a good supplier of the fruits that were so common back home… As fruits seldom traveled well over long distances. “Fishing crawlers to start with. Most recently off the merchant ship, Flower de Luce, under Captain Ha’shim.” Erika took another sip of her drink, which she almost spit out as she caught the large feline transforming into something much smaller, just barely managing to keep from spitting the liquid. With an uncomfortable face, she eventually managed to add.“I am a windsinger.”

As Dorian started talking about magic, Erika was briefly hopeful that there might be an informed discussion of magic from one practitioner of magic to another. Then the mention of tentacles made her feel deeply… Unnerved. She suppressed a shiver and held a smile on her lips. “That is quite the trick.” Erika said diplomatically. “I fear that most of my magics are far more subtle and less… destructive.” She swirled her ‘ale’ around in the cup as she pondered the best way to give an answer. “I can easily sense and identify ships out to about nine miles. Nothing flashy or too impressive. I am a dabbler more than a specialist.”
