Kerphi the Illuminated

Human Monk 2 | Stats | Languages | Spells Prepared

Kerphi is undaunted, but still cautious. He creeps to the door frame and peers in, trying to get a better view of where the voice sounded like it came from.

Qwinsea feels a fear come over him and he looks to his companions and says, "I might be wrong. The patio entrance might not be a good idea. Maybe we should look for another entrance. This one is giving me the creeps."

KERPHI

ROOM 4 BACK OF THE HOUSE, EAST WING

The monk's companions fall back a little way, leaving him alone on the threshold.

After a moment, the echo of the maniacal, disembodied voice fades and the only noises in this part of the house are the moan of wind through a broken window and the scurrying of mice or some other vermin under the floor.

So far as Kerphi can tell, the voice came from either the ceiling of the empty air under it.

The ceiling here looks intact, if moldered and stained.

meanwhile, at the front of the house, THE NORTH SIDE

Marl'Tok

(Room 1)

Marl'Tok quickly reaches the north face of the building, where the front entrance is located. As he steps up to the front door and opens the panel a hair, he becomes aware that he is quite alone. The others have not joined him. At least, not yet. If they are coming, he cannot hear them.

The wind has picked up.

The stiff breeze pushes the cracked door wide with a loud creak of the hinges. Marl'Tok peers into a dirty old entrance hall. A corridor opens on the wall directly across from the front door, running into the southern section of the house. In the middle of the wall on Marl's left a second hallway runs into the east wing. On the right, a balconied stairway runs up to the next level. And, under the stairs at the northwest corner, a third passage runs into the west wing. The balcony rail is busted in places but the stairs appear intact. Marl scans the seemingly empty room. He can see just fine in the light pouring through the windows and the open front door, Marl doesn't see any creatures or obvious threats (his orc-sight only kicks in in the dark; sunlight spoils it). A few scraps of wood, maybe bits of destroyed furniture, rest on the warped floorboards near the left, eastern corridor. Some desiccated leaves, maybe blown in through a broken window pane, litter the floor near the stairs.

Kerphi the Illuminated

Human Monk 2 | Stats | Languages | Spells Prepared

Kerphi looks back to his companions. While the voice did not leave him stricken with fear, he is not inclined to separate from them. "I would like to enter here, if only to see if that was the voice of a paper tiger."

He looks down the walls. "Would you perhaps be comfortable entering through a window into a nearby room? We could meet up swiftly inside."

As they consider, he takes a careful step across the threshold and brings himself just into the room, testing to see if the voice reacts once more.

Vestas Faircoin

Having followed Marle (as stated previously) Vestas is not there to hear Kerphi's recommendation. The cleric rounds the house and stands behind the half-orc within seconds of his opening of the door.

Muad'dib

Muad'dib starts inspecting the sorroundings in serach for a crackle or a window where he, and maybe the others, would be able to sneak in

ROOM 1: THE ENTRANCE HALL

STANDING AT THE FRONT DOOR

Vestas joins Marl'Tok shortly after the half-orc arrives.

Peering in the open front door, over the other man's shoulder, he sees the dilapidated entrance hall with its three corridors and the stairway running up to the second story.

ROOM 4 Kerphi enters and searches methodically...

Poking through the rubbish in one corner of the bare room, the monk finds a fat golden earring. He also checks the fireplace. It is dirty with the tiny mummy-like bodies of two dead birds fallen atop the cold ashes of long-ago fires.

The interior door to the west stands closed, but checking carefully, Kerphi finds it unlocked.

ROOM 3

Muad'Dib finds a broken window along the south wall near the patio door, which opens into a room adjacent to the one Kerphi is now exploring. Seeing no immediate threats, the burglar enters cautiously, climbing down over a rotted, battered desk.

The broken remains of a chair lie on the floor nearby.

Climbing down and peeking first through the hall door (it isn't locked, but it is warped in its frame, a bit balky) to make sure he's alone, the burglar examines the big desk. It looks like a writing desk such as a well-to-do clerk might use, with sets of slide-out drawers built into the pedestals on either side of where the man would sit while working. Three drawers on the left, and three on the right. The middle section holds a long central door set under the desktop. A check of the drawers on the sides shows that all have been broken into (no finesse, probably a crowbar or some such implement) and left empty of anything but mouse droppings and dust.

The central drawer, though, remains closed and locked.

OOC correction:

I typed Room 5, I meant Room 4.

Kerphi is in Room 4, having entered through the patio door.

Muad'dib has opened a busted window on the south wall to gain access to Room 3.

Vestas and Marl'Tok stand at the open front door, looking into Room 1.

Where are the others?

Qwinsea moves away from the patio entrance and starts to shake off the fear like a dog shakes off water from its wet fur. Still lacking the courage to enter the patio he follow 'New Guy' (Muad'dib) through the window. "What do you see New Guy?"

Vestas Faircoin

"Let's let Fang and that nose of his go first," says Vestas to the half-orc and he and Fang head into the entry hall with a path that runs toward room #3
