The Search for a Cure - Post 22


Lummobella's diligent searching uncovers little of value at first. Rotten wood, and rusty tools offer little in the way of value. Likewise, the small space seems devoid of anything other than empty spiderwebs and quiet mouseholes. However, taking a second look at the abandoned tools, the dwarf finds a single, solitary Ironbloom mushroom growing atop one of the old iron implements. While not nearly enough to heal the denizens of their village, it provides the first promising sign that the group is on the right track.

Up in the hallway, Damian's soldier's instincts come to the fore as he hears soft movement coming from behind one of the closed doors. Someone or something is close. He's not sure if his group has been heard or not, but he stands still, holding his breath, listening for some further sign that they're about to be ambushed, but hearing nothing out of the ordinary.

"Hey, I've found a mushroom," Bella shouted to the rest of the team, "Not enough, but a good first start."

she tried to recollect how to transport these things, to decide if she was going to leave it for now or if it could already be taken. She wouldn't touch it for now, so everybody could see the actual mushroom so they would also know what to look for.

Valeria turned her head toward the sound of Bella's hollarin', not exactly sure what to do at the moment. When it came to mushrooms, she knew well enough how to cook them, just… Not so much how to keep them alive when they're still in the dirt. "Should we maybe go look?"

Frowning deeply as he considered if they had to actually fight the creatures to get what they needed. Least they knew there was more then just the ones in the larger of the rooms.

Hearing strange noises, Damian carefully withdraws to warn the others. As Lummobella displays her find, there is a sharp >>WHAM<< of a door slamming open. A deep, guttural voice barks orders, "Sniff 'em out, boyos. Give' em hell!"

Valeria jumped as she heard a slam from around the corner of the hallway. Her eyes wide, she looked at Flint in panic, and started hustling him into the same room as Bella as the deep creepy voice began to speak, without even waiting for the rest of what it had to say.

 

Following him into the room there, and with her one hand still holding the torch, Val turned to gesture to the others, trying to usher them into the door opposite.

Bella hears the voice and immediately grabs her Dorn-dergar. The mushroom will stay where it is, if they can't hide, they will have to fight, so that takes priority at the moment. She was currently out of sight in the room she was in, but that wouldn't mean they couldn't be discovered.

Finding himself hustled into a different room, Flint moves to stand by wall near the door entrance. If any enemies rush into the room, he will give a quick jab with his starknife. He whispers to Rawanne  "Their leader ordered them to give us hell. That person isn't looking to make friends. Bullies need a whooping before they're willing to talk "

With the three in one room and time already ticking, Valeria grabbed the door and closed it as gently as she could, trying not to make any more noise than necessary lest they attract their pursuers.

 

At best, whoever is after them would just pass them on by; at worst, they'll get the drop on the half-orc first, and the three could burst out of the room to flank an ambush.

 

If Rawanne and Damien were smart enough though, they'd heed her and Flint's advice and spring these whatever bandits or ruffians a surprise.

 

With the door closed between her and the hallway, Valeria took a step back and nodded to the others, keeping her torch high at the ready.

The Search for a Cure - Post 23


Damian stands his ground, drawing his weapon and bracing himself behind the massive wall of steel that is his tower shield. Two large, dark-colored wolves come bounding from out of the shadows, channeled into the narrow corridor. Though Damian is readied for the hit, the wily wolf still manages to get past his defenses and bite, taking a nip out of the veteran warrior's leg.
Behind the attacking wolf, another one stands ready, eager to pounce and attack should an opening provide itself. And behind the second wolf, lurking in the shadows, is the architect of this assault -- a lightly armored kobold barking orders to the wolves.

As the rest of the team huddles together defensively, two more wolves come barrelling through the open door to the east, skidding in the dirt as they round the corner and, fangs bared and ready for combat, they begin charging towards the open door and the intruders to their home.
