Morn Tallstag

AC: 15 HP: 7/7

Morn becomes rather animated as the time comes for him to relate what he knows about the place, which turns out to be extensive.
"I saw a very old map once that showed this site to be an elven outpost of Cormanthyr. But its current form begins long ago when a bandit named Galath camped out here to raid trading caravans passing through. He got rich enough doing it to build this keep and started calling himself the Bandit King and all that. Well, the Sembians weren't going to put up with that and sorted him right out. They say his ghost haunts his treasure to this day, though of course no one has ever found the treasure. They say there a flooded crypts deep underground and maybe even a magical gate to strange realms. More recently, the Harpers filled it with hundreds of traps as a welcome for Zhents that wanted to take control of it. Lately there are rumors of priests of the Dark Sun and the Maiden of Pain, and Dragon Cultists nosing around. Though I don't suppose that ALL of the rumors can be true?"

After hearing Morn's tale Rodin starts to think about that cursed fey.

If there is a flooded area, that cursed fey could be guarding the entrance to it. The small pool she is living in is pretty deep in the center. No telling what all is down there. Maybe she was placed there as a guardian? Or maybe she's just an annoying prat that has taken up living in that little pool.

Morn Tallstag

image.png.9a00bffda4484b6d0b4510773b6259e4.pngMorn Tallstag, Human Bard
AC: 15 HP: 7/7

Morn has a look on his face like he's been working on a plan all morning. Finally, he speaks up. "You know, I wonder if we can lure the ants into a fight with the kobolds?" He gathers up the whitest dirt and sand he can find in his handkerchief. The brightness of the color is an important part of his plan. He leads the crew down to the lower level as close as they dare to the ants. He casts a spell--just a little prestidigitation spell, and the "bait" becomes (if one is to believe his claim) sticky-sweet flavored, and starting with a dried apple slice from his rations, he leaves a thin trail from the apple slice, around the den of the pond creature, up the stairs, and outside. It's a very thin trail--he has a lot of ground to cover. He also tries to work quickly, because the spell will only last and hour. He lays the bait all the way to the kobold den, and here is the dangerous part. He hands the remaining bait over to one of the heartier members of the crew to lay the bait right up to the opening in the wall that leads to the kobold's ambush point, with the rest of his dried apple slices. They don't have to go into the den--indeed they can just toss it in from as far away as they can manage. Will the ants be lured into this trap?

OOC

Note: Morn can cast up to 4 prestidigitation spells if the first spell doesn't produce enough bait for the whole way.

Aeruiel Moonshadow   Half-Moon Elf Barbarian from Ashabenford

Aeruiel tells Morn Tallsatg, "I like that idea. Lets run with it." She wonders if they could search for beehives with honey and use that as a bait for the ants. If a trail can be led from the kobolds to the ants then maybe the ants will follow their natural instincts and search for the honey trail for the source and engage in combat with the kobolds. She is not sure who would come out as a victor but it seems one problem could take care of the other for them.

OoC

If we can find a few beehives and then maybe capture them in a sack and that could be the first step in our plan. I don't know if a "sleep" spell could be used on bees but I'm sure there are other ways of putting them down for a nap. Maybe some "magic weed"? Anyways, just an idea.

Maybe the elves have seen beehives while searching for their lost friend?

AppearanceFemale half-elf, age 17, blonde, blue eyes, fair skin, 5'-7" tall weight about 125 lbs.

She is described as a willful and free spirited young woman, who likes playing pranks, and flies into fits of rage when bullied.

It's worth a try. We just have to hope that more than one of the ants decides to investigate our trail.

Rodin stands guard with his bow ready as Morn lays out his trail. He tries to make sure he can warn the man and get him out of the way if the ants start coming before he is finished.

Jessie listened to the plan, but to the Halfling sounded like it might be difficult to achieve the desired effects given the number of known and unknown variables potentially coming into play.

Nonetheless, the party definitely needed help to defeat the kobolds, especially given the epic failures in the recent past with every adversary they have faced other than an angry begonia.

What the heck, the diminutive rogue thinks to herself. I've depended on 'luck' more than once to save my skin, Jessie mentally muses as she nods her affirmation to try the plan.

Jessie's Mind

Jessie thinks again, 'You probably heard, but we are going to try and lure some of the ants to the kobold lair you wanted cleared with the hope they can take out each other, or reduce each other's health and allow us to finish the task."

As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary.

Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use.

Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates.

To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak.

Simimar and Lathai enjoy your company for the evening and laugh when the young bard Morn, with a glint in his eye, tells his tale of the Roost, though not before raising eyebrows instinctually at his mention of the ancient elven outpost and nodding in silent acknowledgement. They remind him that the Harpers like to spin tall tales too, though most contain some measure of truth, for words can be powerful tools to encourage and discourage alike.

Unfortunately, the two scouts have little in terms of information to offer Rodin or the company about the Roost or it's current denizens, noting only that kobolds are generally quite fearful and simple minded creatures and that the larger inspects, while defensive of their homes as their smaller counterparts would be, are not generally aggressive unless provoked.

After the scouts leave and you have a moment to collect your thoughts on the strategy for the day as the silky mists of the morning that give the nearby Dale its name give the illusion the ruin is a castle in a cloud.

Agreeing to try the young bard's strategy, you prepare for the task when it dawns on you that you'll need to move fast not to draw the fey's attention if you're to move past the pool as your path to the ants...

Rather than trying to get past the fey beast, we can use a secret door we discovered. It is outside the ruins in the midst of some trees and thorn bushes. And I think it is a more direct path to the kobolds lair. As the others said, ants are not generally overly aggressive unless you threaten their nest or queen. This plan is going to depend on how hungry they are. But it is not going to cost us anything other than some time to try.

If agreed to he will lead the way to the hidden entrance and show the way to the ants nest. He will cover him while he lays his scent trail.

It takes some work to find the path you'd cleared to the concealed entrance of old and having done so, Morn and Rodin set to work. A while later, with little trouble, but several castings of his cantrip and some leg work, you've managed to lay a trail of scented fine dirt from the discovered environs of the giant ants to the cracked stone wall leading to the corridor where you'd first encountered the kobolds.

As you descend the sloped sinkhole into the cavern where the cracked stone wall is found, Jesse, who would not help but tag along with Rodin and Morn, notes that this time, no kobold scout seemed to be scurrying off into the crack when you arrived, as one had done the other day.

Jessie stays silent and hidden in the shadows while Morn and Rodin lay down the faux trail of enchanted food from the ant lair through the spiked grate, which they prop open, and out the secret entrance to the ruins.

Once they are outside near the Kobold lair, the diminutive Halfling silently leads the small group with her loaded bow in hand watching and listening for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual.

Once the burglar has determined that the entrance to their lair appears unguarded, Jessie waves her colleagues forward to finish laying the trail of proverbial breadcrumbs.

While the pair complete the task at hand, the tiny Halfling pickpocket will sneak to a location where she can both see and shoot into the opening from the outside.

If, however, her colleagues enter the crack leading into the first room of the Kobold lair, then Jessie will immediately sneak forward and take up a position providing overwatch at the opening they just passed through.

Jessie's Mind

Okay, so we can stay safe, please let me know if you see any creature or person near, other than me, Morn and Rodin.
