Maximilian Cornelius Spurbright   Human Wizard from Cormyr

Morn moves to a less exposed position.

Morn let's a bolt loose and Jesse follows with an arrow, both fly wide and shatter against the far cavern wall.

Aeruiel in a rage, avoids much of the worst of the creature's breath and lands a mighty blow on the small creature, but it's strange hide is tougher than she imagines and the blow is much less lethal than it should have been.

Bochs looses another bolt to little avail.

While Maximilian draws his dagger.

Kethra misses yet again with a third bolt and consternation is clear in her expression.

Taking everyone by surprise, not least of all the small creature, Rodin drops his bow and dashes into the frigid waters of the spring, instantly sinking down to his waist but also shoving the small creature with such force that, had it not bumped into Aeruiel, it might have travelled even further. The creature is caught completely off guard, being shoved out of the deeper waters and while it tries to swipe at Rodin with a razor sharp claw, he easily evades the swipe.

Shaken, the creature unleashes another rain of acid droplets at Rodin, before dashing away and diving deep into the middle of the spring!

OOC

Aeruiel Moonshadow   Half-Moon Elf Barbarian from Ashabenford

Wood Elf, Ranger

Being hampered by the water he was standing in, Rodin is not able to avoid the latest spit from this water demon. He gets hit by all of it and it is more than his battered and burned body can handle as once again he passes out. However this time he sinks into the water rather than fall onto the floor. Hopefully sinking into the water will negate any further acid damage he might get.

OOC

If he wins the strength test by more than 5, then he will continue to push the thing as far as he can. Assuming it does not kill him with its AoO.

Elven Lowlight vision, so he can see 40' a if full light rather than the normal 20 of the torch.

Will take 10 on Spot and Listen checks for a total of 15 each when not in combat.

It gets a +3 bonus if any of those are applied to Drow or large spiders.

Rodin is still borrowing Auriel's bow.

The serpent tongue arrows do both slashing and piercing damage. They are designed to use to cut ropes and break things more effectively.

Maximilian Cornelius Spurbright   Human Wizard from Cormyr

With his dagger drawn, but not wanting to get any closer to the creature, Maximilian decides to cast a spell he had been saving for the next time they ran into the ants. He takes aim carefully, trying to catch the creature in the cone of scintillating lights, but not Rodin or Aeruiel. With that, he reaches into his spell component pouch and takes out a small, pre-folded piece of parchment, unfolding it and letting the colored sand within pour into his open hand.

Maximilian speaks the arcane words and traces out the symbol in the air that releases the spell he had memorized, sending a cone of clashing colors bursting forth from his hand.

Actions

Cast color spray angled so that it hits the creature, but not Rodin. The 15 ft limit should keep it from hitting Aeruiel, who I think is 20 ft away from Maximilian.

Openly cringing when her buddy Rodin goes down under the never-ending acid onslaught of the foul creature that seemingly heals itself faster than it can be harmed, Jessie frowns and thinks to herself, Well, here we go again!

Calling out to her friends, the Halfling rogue says, "We need to get Rodin out of the pool before he drowns! I'm just too short and weak to do it. Maybe we can a rope on him and drag his body out," she adds not really knowing what to do.

If we could only get or force the creature out of the water, I bet it would be a lot easier to kill, the diminutive burglar mentally muses to herself as a blast of intense colored light saturates the area containing the foul foe.

Once the illusory magic fades, Jessie double blinks her eyes and draws the string of her masterwork short bow taunt before releasing an arrow at the water beast when it pops up above the water, while also keeping one eye and her ears focused on the rear flank of the party to prevent being surprised from behind.

Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary.

Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use.

Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates.

To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak.

Morn quickly loads his crossbow and fires into the depths of the spring. Light doesn't penetrate deep into the spring so he cannot confirm if he's hit anything.

Jesse looses another bolt into the spring, but with the waters dark and murky she cannot see where it lands.

Aeruiel, still in a rage, leaps into the water after the creature and quickly finds she looses any footing beneath her and is now drowning into the pool, struggling to stay afloat.

Bochs begins to reload his heavy crossbow, a cumbersome effort.

Maximilian steps to the edge of the spring and completes an incantation, scintillating beams of light fill a cone that easily penetrates the waters of the spring with it's immaterial light and illuminates the creature deep below, but the lights quickly fade and Maximilian can't tell if they had any effect on the creature below, still submerged in the murky darkness.

Kethra pauses, unsure what to do next, but quickly comes out of her stupor and dashes to pull Rodin's sinking body out of the spring, dragging it onto the cavern floor and seeing to the unconscious elf's wounds as best she can.

"Aid me quick, we must mend his wounds and stop his deterioration!"

If the creature below does anything, it is unseen from your vantage points.

OOC

Note 1: Aeruiel is submerged. She must first save vs. Maximilian's spell. If she is not unconscious, she can make a Swim Check, DC 10, to swim at half speed, allowing her to rise to the surface, and even exit the spring. Otherwise, she needs to begin holding her breath.

No sooner had the group gotten the still dying Rodin out of the pool than Aeruiel jumps into the same pool, loses her footing and then goes under the water causing Jessie to frown as the minature lass sighs in frustration.

However, when the tiny Halfling sees Aeruiel pop back up trying to swim to the nearby shoreline Jessie calls out, "Please help get Aeruiel out of the water and let's get everyone out of here and healed up before we lose anyone this day!"

Continuing in the same high-pitched voice as she loads a razor-sharp metal tipped arrow into her fancy short bow and aims at the deeper end of the pool, the diminutive rogue adds, "I'll cover you. If the creature shows itself, I'll shoot it. If it doesn't, then it can't use its acid attack while we help Aeruiel!"

Morn retrieves a sunrod and taps it to life. Bright light fills the cavern as the golden tip begins to burn. Tossing it into the small spring, the rod seems to float suspended for a breath before it begins to sink heavily down. The bright light immediately illuminates the bottom of the spring, which seems an inverted cone of stone that tapers to some fifteen feet below. Though the nature of the moving waters makes it hard to discern details at the bottom, the small strange creature is clearly sitting at the bottom of the pool.

Jesse prepares another arrow and aims it at the water as she shouts out some directions.

Aeruiel, her armor and clothing waterlogged, manages to reach the edge of the small pool and drag herself out of the water.

Kethra continues to try and tend to Rodin's drenched body.

"Still can't stem these wounds! He's still bleeding. Getting away from the threat seems wise, but we should do so quickly and get Rodin stable!"

The creature does something, though its hard to register through the moving waters, but the sunrod suddenly seems to melt away as its light fading and vanishing.
