Terran Posted January 27 Clone Share Posted January 27 (edited) Jessie is doing her best to kill the plant putting arrow after arrow into its thick trunk, however the Assassin Vine is one tough foe. No wonder this damn thing is surrounded by so many bones from its past meals, thinks the diminutive rogue to herself. It seems aggressively insatiable! Even though the tiny Halfling wished that her colleagues had stayed away from the plant's thrashing tendrils and had instead used ranged attacks to defeat the insidious vine, but as they say, if wishes were horses, then dreamers would ride, and this group was barely walking! Seeing little for her to do other than to keep up the ranged assault on the battling begonia in an effort to subdue the fearsome foe, Jessie once again loads a razor-sharp arrow and carefully aims her fancy composite short bow at the Assassin Vine and releases the deadly projectile at the creature, but unfortunately in her rush to attack she misses high and wide. OOC Free Action: Swift Action: Move Equivalent Action: Standard Action: Attack Main Body of Assassin Vine with MW Short Bow Move: As necessary to gain a line of sight Full Round Action: Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary. Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use. Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates. To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak. Sorithar Posted January 28 Author Clone Share Posted January 28 Maximillian's stone doesn't do as much damage to the vine as he'd anticipated, but much to Rodin's surprise, his quick slash with his dagger, hits one of the puncture wounds and splits the main vine clean in half. Almost instantly, the vines entangling and writhing about, go limp, hanging harmlessly from above or falling to the cavern floor. The main vine goes limp and Bochs rolls out of it's grasp, wrapped, but no longer strangled. Kethra leaps into action, calling on the divine Power stored in the wand to channel into the dwarf warrior and a moment later, he gasps for breath, injured, but alive and breathing, a circle of strangers and Morn poised about and over him and a kindly, mayhap beautiful looking face, by human standard anyway, is smiling at him gleefully. Chaz Hoosier Posted January 28 Clone Share Posted January 28 Morn Tallstag Morn Tallstag, Human Bard AC: 15 HP: 7/7 Morn squirms free of the vines and stands upright. Now that he isn't being thrashed about by sentient vines, he turns out to be one of the shortest humans on record and thin as a rail--hardly a morsel for even the smallest dragon. He has an overly precise way of pronouncing words that attempts to cover up his country brogue. "Thank the gods, Bochs! I won't lie, I worried there for a moment or two!" He looks sheepishly at the others and attempts unsuccessfully to smooth down his hair, which usually sits stubbornly at odd angles even when he hasn't been fighting a monstrous ficus. "Heh, hello! Uh, thank you for saving us from that, um...plant there. I'm Morn Tallstag. We're here to look into that banditry that has been bothering area. We heard there were others already at the job here already, and, er, we can guess what would have happened to us if that hadn't been true can't we?" Terran Posted January 29 Clone Share Posted January 29 (edited) Jessie smiles broadly when her buddy, Rhodie, manages to slay the damn Assassin Vine with one well-placed dagger strike on the lethal plant calling out to him by his preferred moniker, "Well done, Rodin" while her colleagues and the newly arrived strangers who first became entrapped each unwrap themselves from its dead tendrils! Nonetheless, the diminutive Halfling rogue does not put her loaded fancy short bow away, just in case there are more threats to the group than the now seemingly dead raging rose bush or even the newcomers themselves as she establishes an impromptu watch. Feeling a little more at ease after Kethra heals the injuries of one of the newcomers, Jessie keeps her eyes and ears focused on them, as well as the passageways of the cave system both in front of her and behind her as the tiny burglar watches and listens for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual. However, when a very short human, who is only slightly more than double Jessie's height, digs his way out of the vines and introduces himself as Morn, the pickpocket thinks to herself with a slight smile, Well, he's so short, at least for or a 'Tall-ie' that he can't be all bad, which thought is complimented by the lad's confirmation that they are here on basically the same mission as the party. However, when the Dwarf, Bochs, actually identifies us by starting points, Jessie slightly relaxes and says in a hushed voice, "Jessie Tosscobble III, procurer of necessaries," but otherwise keeps her bow at the ready as she focuses her senses more on the pathways leading to and from the group instead of the newcomers themselves. While ensuring perimeter security, the tiny Halfling suggests in the same lowered tone, "Maybe we should try to destroy or poison the Assassin Vine's root, so this thing is true dead. Sometimes you can cut down a tree, and the next spring the damn roots sprout a new sapling," she adds not really knowing whether this plant can do what a tree can do or not. Terran Posted January 31 Clone Share Posted January 31 (edited) When the Giant Ants are spotted and are the size of ponies, to the diminutive Halfling they seem much, much bigger than that by a long shot. Readying her bow and steadying herself for the worst, at least Jessie was already standing watch and was ready for such an occurrence, although she had hoped that such was merely extra precaution rather than prognostic in nature. However, when a retreat is signaled, Jessie doesn't hesitate in the slightest and sure didn't need to be told twice. With her fancy short bow still in hand, the tiny rogue quickly skedaddles toward the party, weaving and bobbing as she takes a path staying mostly next to the cave wall, then skirting around the sharp corner of the passageway behind the party and on her way headed out of the underground complex as fast as her short legs will carry her!
