Just out of harm's way and with his finer acuity, Rodin is able to see that the caverns stretch to the south and west of the group's current position past the verdant cavern of the vine. Before he can convey this, while Jesse and Aeruiel weigh in and discussion of next steps begins, you are all surprised and somewhat shaken by the sudden loud and crumbling of the lip of the ceiling above the vine and the sudden and unceremonious appearance of and shouts of surprise from two people, a young human man and an armored dwarf by the looks of them, falling uncontrollably down into the verdant cavern below and landing with a dull thud as they meet the moss and vine covered floor of the cavern.

Before you can even shout a warning, the vines and plants around the two seem to come to life excitedly and wrap their way around both individual's bodies!

Morn Tallstag

image.png.9a00bffda4484b6d0b4510773b6259e4.pngMorn Tallstag, Human Bard
AC: 15 HP: 7/7

"AAAAAAAAAAH!" The scrawniest and shortest looking human kid on record crashes through the ceiling right into the mass of moss and vines. He can't be more than 16 or 17 and is dressed in homespun clothing like any other farmer kid in the dale. He's got second rate looking leather armor, an old rapier and crossbow, and a lute slung over his back. "Ow! Oh man!" He rolls over, rubbing his bruised butt until he perceives the writhing vines. "AAAAAAH!" He rolls away from them and stumbles to his feet, not even noticing the others at the moment.

OOC

Roll Incoming

I'm assuming the yellow box on the map is the extent of the vines, but he rolls out of them however far it is.

Rodin is just a surprised as the others when the human and dwarf fall into the cave. As he sees the human jump up and avoid the vines, he reacts. He drops the torch and in on smooth motion pulls out a strange looking arrow, fits it to his bow and fires. The arrow has a U shaped tip that looks to be incredibly sharp. His shot is towards the main vine. As has been the case for the last couple of days, the fates are against him and his arrow misses its mark and vanishes onto the far side of the cavern where you can hear it skip off stone.

OOC

Elven Lowlight vision, so he can see 40' a if full lit rather than the normal 20 of the torch.

Will take 10 on Spot and Listen checks for a total of 15 each when not in combat.

It gets a +3 bonus if any of those are applied to Drow or large spiders.

Bochs lets out a rather un-paladinly curse as he landed hard on the cave floor. Rolling to his feet he dodges the grasping vines initial grasp and then spies the others nearby. Moving to the center of the pit opening above he hefted his warhammer and barked at the group. "Friend or Foe?"

Aeruiel thinks to reach out to the new commers with her haft of her axe, but it cannot reach far enough unless they come closer.

Evading the worst of the writhing vines, Bochs find himself in a precarious situation of unknown cause and takes in the company of strangers suspiciously even as Rodin knocks an arrow and fires at the large deadly vine now writhing energetically.

As Morn dodges away from the vine, the plants at his feet make it difficult to escape and he fails to get too far before the plants once more threaten to entwine him.

This fate is far less deadly than Bochs might be as the thick vine unfurls and swipes at Bochs with it's tendrilled core, threatening to envelope and tighten around the dwarf warrior!

Despite the dire circumstances, Rodin sees and opportunity as the main vine threatens Bochs' life, he knows it is now occupied and unless it releases him, its deadliest threat is likely preoccupied.

No sooner is Rodin out of harm's way, than two more folks tumble upside down directly into the heart of the Assassin Vine's territory as evidenced by its excited thrashing and grasping for the taste of warm flesh to feed its endless hunger to consume life.

Even though the situation is deadly serious, Jessie smiles and nearly laughs out loud at the comedic timing when the Dwarven Paladin calls out a 'friend or foe' challenge to the party while he is in the process of quickly becoming potential plant fertilizer.

Mimicking her tall buddy, the tiny rogue draws a fancy short bow and nocks an arrow with a razor-sharp metal head. Remembering how Rodin had pointed out the key to killing the vine was either fire or hit it in the 'main stem.'

Moving to gain a line of sight on the rampaging rosebush's main 'trunk' but not getting within reach of the Vine's tendrils, Jessie carefully aims and releases the deadly projectile at the insidious flesh-eating weed but unfortunately her shot goes wide too.

Greatly missing her target and narrowly missing the people she was trying to save prompts the tiny burglar to call out, "Friends, but not great shots!"

Once again, Jessie returns to her question when Rhodie was dancing with the bad begonia, "Does anyone have a rope so we can use our combined strength to help pull them out?"

Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary.

Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use.

Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates.

To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak.

Aeruiel Moonshadow   Half-Moon Elf Barbarian from Ashabenford

Aeruiel tells Jessie that the rope she had they used to rig that gate open sometime back. Seeing as these vines are relentless she opts to start chopping in the hopes that their new friends are left alone and can escape.

OoC

Start the chopping.

I don't think I did the damage roll correctly. I think it is suppose to be roll damage die then multiply by 3 (because of crit) then add str bonus. Even if I rolled a 3 x 3 +2 = 11, so there is no way to get a 12.

The second time around I did roll a 5 x 3 = 15 +2 = 17, so 17 damage.

AppearanceFemale half-elf, age 17, blonde, blue eyes, fair skin, 5'-7" tall weight about 125 lbs.

She is described as a willful and free spirited young woman, who likes playing pranks, and flies into fits of rage when bullied.

Rodin curses as he sees the dwarf get wrapped up by the main vine and pass out. He whips out another arrow and takes aim and lets fly praying to all the gods to let the arrow fly true. This time the gods answer and the arrow flies true and cuts into the main vine.

As long as the main vine has ahold of the dwarf, it cannot attack anyone else. Hit it now.

Aeruiel lunges forward, axe raised high and rushes through the writhing vines to hack at the central thick deadly vine. Her axe lands solidly with a thick 'thunk!'. Aeruiel knows her slash would fell most goblinoids, but this is a plant and plants have no vital organs, she realizes, much to her dismay. Never the less, the thick main vine begins to ooze a dark brown liquid.

Boshs, now unconscious, goes visibly limp in the vine's grip.

Rodin looses another arrow and this time, his aim is true and the arrow sinks into the main vine beside Aeruiel, who doesn't even notice it in her focus.

Morn continues to struggle against the withing vines covering the floor and ceiling of the cavern.

The vine continues its squeezing of Bochs, seemingly unaware or uncaring of the threat posed by the other adventurers.

Max quickly utters an incantation and looses a battlestrike at the vine. The arcane missile veers around the party and sinks into the plant.

Jesse meanwhile, takes aim as well, her arrow flying wide and she shouts out at her companions, advising rope again.

Seeing the dwarf in dire straits, Kethra leaps forward, wand in hand, avoiding the worst of the writhing vines and touching what remines visible of Bochs, uttering the command to activate the wand in Draconic and sending some healing energies through the dwarf warrior.

Having been lost in his own thoughts for entirely too long, something Maximilian seemed to have a habit of, he recognized the severity of the situation and knew that he needed to act quickly. Wishing that he still had his wand, but recognizing that it was not the time for that sort of spell, Maximilian mumbled the arcane syllables and made the hand gestures necessary, pointing his finger at the plant like a bowman points an arrow. He released the arcane energy as a battlestrike, its blue energy hurtling toward the plant.
