Aeruiel Moonshadow   Half-Moon Elf Barbarian from Ashabenford

Without much fanfare, you manage to beat a hasty retreat back to the surface, using the now no longer hidden entrance you'd uncovered, which allows you to close the grate behind you and prevent the fast moving ants from following after they paused to investigate the now uprooted deadly vine.

Soon, you find yourselves, along with Morn and Bachs now, under the large oak tree in the ruined keep. Judging by the location of the sun from what he can see through the high tree line, Rodin surmises it is mayhap thulsun, but not much later.

Back at the tree, Rodin relaxes a bit. Happy they were able to kill the assassin vine, but frustrated at how little progress they are making in getting to the kobolds and getting his bow back. Not to mention these bandits might show up again at any moment and cause even more trouble.

Well, I guess introductions are in order and we can catch you up on what has happened so far. I am Rodin Sethilaud, a ranger.

He pauses to let the others introduce themselves and then continues.

Where to start. We for one we have friend who lives in the tree. He speaks into your mind, not out loud. And so far we have not actually seen him. He filled us in on some of what is around here.

First, next to us we have some very large beetles. We tried to kill them to secure the area, but it turned out a larger task than we thought and had to retreat. So far they have been content to stay in their lair.

Next our friend, oh he is called Russal, informed us that mounted people do come by here from time to time. From what we can tell there seems to be some sort of magic portal they open on a small hill nearby, that lets them come and go without being followed. We followed their tracks up to the hill top and they just stopped.

There is a group of kobolds that have moved into an area nearby. They have caused our friend some trouble, so we offered to help remove that threat. Their lair can be entered via a sinkhole outside the ruins. Again we were thwarted in that attempt and barely made it out alive. We found out there was another way into their lair and were down there trying to find our way to it when we encountered the Assassin Vine and then you two. We first went down there by some stairs over there. But there is some fey creature in there that does not like trespassers. It created a stinking cloud to try to drive us out, but did not physically attack us. It and Russal do not get along.

He turns to look at the others.

I think I covered everything?

Jessie kept leading the way out of the underground complex under the fortress ruins, securing the pieces of her ironwood pole after the party strategically closed the iron gate behind them as they exited the darkness into the bright sunlight.

Once safely outside, the diminutive rogue takes a moment to stow the four pieces of the pole in her pack to keep the simple, yet valuable tool of her trade safe until it was needed again, before heading back into the ruins and the relative safety of the huge tree.

While Rodin provides a good summary of the in's and out's of the current situation and past successes and problems, the tiny Halfling munches on a flour biscuit, piece of dried venison jerky, and chunk of hard, slightly smelly cheese with full enthusiasm.

In between bites, Jessie adds, "Yes, and a couple folks lost valuables, including a bow and wand we hope to recover," as she silently thinks to herself, And, which we also hope won't be used against us as we make the attempt to penetrate the kobold lair and put down the threat.

Sitting on the ground with her legs crossed, the miniature rogue sets an impromptu watch as she keeps her eyes and ears focused on her immediate surroundings watching and listening for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual in the immediate area.

Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary.

Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use.

Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates.

To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak.

"I'm Morn Tallstag as I've said. I'm from Elven Crossing--never been this far away from home before!"

We have the daylight for one, I should think. Unforunately I er...miscast my only healing spell. How many charges are left on that healing wand?"

Maximilian Cornelius Spurbright   Human Wizard from Cormyr

Finally safe and making camp on the surface, Maximilian relaxes somewhat, but not as much as he would if he had his wand back. Realizing that he has not yet introduced himself to their new companions, he decides to correct that oversight.

"Well met, I am Maximilian Spurbright, of the Espar Spurbrights, from Cormyr," he says with a Cormyrean accent. "I must confess that getting my wand back is a priority, though I would prefer to find a better route into the kobold lair than our first attempt. There is a hallway that can only be entered by a crack in the wall, and the kobolds have set an ambush at either end of the hallway to attack from a distance. If there is another way in, it seems like we would have an easier time by not walking into an ambush. Perhaps with the assassin vine now dead, we have only the ants between us and the kobolds."

Continuing to stand watch while the group relaxed and recovers in the safer tree room, Jessie realizes that she has not properly introduced herself. Standing up proud and tall at two feet eight inches and weighing a solid twenty-seven pounds, the Halfling rogue remedies that oversight.

Clearing her throat, the burglar says in a high-pitched yet solid voice, "Greetings all. Nice to meet everyone! I'm Jessie Tosscobble the third, originally hailing for the Western Heartlands and most recently, the region of Mistledale! Now, what's for dinner," she asks with a smile after having just finished a small snack moments ago?

This time, the diminutive Halfling takes the best spot to set up perimeter security while setting up a watch with her loaded fancy short bow in hand, keeping her eyes and ears focused on her immediate surroundings as she watches and listens for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual in the immediate area.

After examining Bochs following his gulp of a potion, Kethra decides to expend some more of her wand's Power and bring the dwarven holy warrior back to full health. A short rest, some introductions and refreshments later, your newly expanded company decides to make one more effort this day to clear out the tunnels below the Rest and with the sun moving slowly down on the horizon, now would be the time.

With Jesse's lead and Rodin close behind, you delve into the caverns below the ruined keep once more, using the concealed entrance you'd recently uncovered to do so and soon finding yourself, a new torch lit in Rodin's hands, in the tangled mess of a cavern the deadly vine had recently held.

As of yet, there is no sign of the pony sized ants you'd seen before.

"Well, do we want to try investigating the vines for any loot again before moving on?" He squints in the torchlight as he pokes the vines with the tip of his sword, hacking away some leaves for a better look.

Jessie pauses when Morn suggests searching the area housing the now dead Assassin Vine for loot, the diminutive Halfling says in a soft voice to the group, "It might be worth a look. We might even find some items, armor or weapons that could help us against the Kobolds."

"It's not necessarily likely to find anything great, but it is possible and, if we have the best searchers take a quick while the rest of the group stands guard, it should be safe enough if done quietly and quickly," the rogue adds with a sincere smile.

If no one objects or has a different opinion, the burglar will search the area both visually and by poking about with her blade in hard to reach places for the distinctive "tink" of metal on metal as efficiently and quietly as she can in order to quickly finish the effort.

A somewhat thorough search of the wonderous grotto like cavern, a veritable forest of varicolored stalactites and stalagmites with a profusion of viny
plants grow among the stalagmites on the floor reveals nothing more that the bones of various small rodents and skeletal remains of decaying massive ants.

Thank fully, for whatever reason, the ants have not chosen to come exploring the cavern while you search it.
