"This is not good." At the mention of the winter-touched fey, Keanu mumbled under his breath, more to himself than anything, but his eyes searched between his two sisters Willow and Riina, hoping that one of them have a better idea of certain things than he.

 

Keeping quiet for the moment about their family's ancestral ties to the White Witches of Irrisen, he posed his questions openly as though someone else in their immediate company might be equally knowledgeable to offer answers. "What business do the White Witches of Irrisen have this far south, and what possible connection could they have to Lady Argentea?"

 

But the questions burning most fiercely in his heart, he dared not utter. Not yet.

Such things were glossed over during his Pathfinder instruction but it was always abstract. To be learning that a confrontation with such power and source is most unexpected. "Yah don't have to fear the spell if yah geek the Magi first" his friend and bunkmate used to say. Malcome Cogspanner, was from a rather unique city of Alkanstar within the Mana Waste. Known for clockwork contractions, technology and most of all firearms, Alkanstar was uniquely prepared to combat magical threats.

Kaine and Malcome lived together for a few years while in training. In the first years, the training was more generalized so they spent more time in the same classes and instruction. As time went on they would learn more of their focuses. Kaine with more of a duelist and Malcome with his custom creation, the latter of which spent just as much time teaching the use of his firearms and their potential to the society as he did learning from them.

Malcome was generous with sharing knowledge with Kaine as well, Their martial style were not all that dissimilar in that it focuses on mobility and avoiding attacks rather than absorbing them. Malcome developed a prototype pistol plan intended for Kaine, that until now, with the reality of this new threat, Kaine is reconsidering. But let's not get to far ahead of ourselves.

"Sounds rather spooky" Kaine adds to the discussion. He realizes that he defiantly needs to update his report before they set out.

Mór-Ríoghain nods in agreement from their position floating directly above Yuln's head. "Yes, Fey are powerful, terrible, incredibly attractive creatures. You should give all of your food and daggers and candles to the next Fey you see, lest they do terrible, Fey things to you." They wiggle their fingers at Yuln spookily. The motion is made more disconcerting by the way that each digit moves in a different direction, writing as though the plant creature's fingers were supple vines rather than the bony flesh sticks often attached to humanoids. The fey's face then darkens, and they grow serious.

"But if witches are defiling my Kin; they shall pay dear, for committing this sin.

"Unless my Kin wanted to be used, I suppose, but who would want to be a slave to humans? No offence to you all- I'm sure you'd be lovely masters."

Keanu looked between his two sisters, first to Willow then Riina, and then toward the fey creature who's made themselves his sister's new friend, "I know the area. I can get us there with possibly a lead on tracks. But after that, you are the experts when we start facing whoever we're after."

Having gathered their information and any additional equipment, the group sets out. After a short trek, they reach the site of the massacre.

Near the forest, the temperature grows noticeably colder. The road ahead is littered with debris and the corpses of slain humans and horses. A carriage stands in the roadway, its team of horses missing or cut free, while another overturned carriage lies sprawled and broken next to the tree line. To the south, more bodies have fallen around what appears to be a statue of ice. A snowy trail leads deeper into the forest. A light snow has fallen since anyone passed by and the ground is dusted with it. The temperature seems to be just above freezing.

What a waste of good meat Dannok thinks watching the dead horses. On the site where the carriages lie he takes a quick look of the scene: seems the usual bandit raid, nothing more, nothing else. The only thing that seems out of place is the ice statue, with the bodies lying around it. He takes a step toward it, then stops. Fairies, he thinks.

Hey, does somebody knows if this thing has always been here? he asks the others, Seems weird to leave an ice statue in a place like this, is it a costume of this country?

OOCI'd like to make a Knowledge (local) check. I'd prefer the GM to do it hidden.
