Cult of Cinders OOC

Okay - I added a map of the mine to the first post in the IC-thread, with more details on it, incl. icons representing baddies you are aware of. From the eagle eye perspective, the icons are very small and you can't see any details - but then again, your characters are also far away and can't may out too much detail all the way to the south of the mine. The small dots you see in the southern camp and in the mine are a mix of various boggards (frog-men) and charau-ka (ape-men). (Technically, you can't see over the edge and into the mine pit, so the number and placement of baddies is based on Cirmarans last scouting trip).

The two small dots you see at the western end of the mine pit are Pendergrast and his charau-ka prison guard escorting the poor archaeologist down the ramp into the mine. (again, technically you can't see them, so it is based on your best estimation).

I gather that Wilder turns into a kobold and attempts to stroll down to the cabin to have a chat with the blue-scaled kobold, which has disappeared inside. But please be a bit more specific on what you are doing (not just Wilder, but all of you). East of the cage, you say - but where more exactly? And what are the rest of you doing in the meantime?

As always, if you do not provide more details, I will have to make assumptions - and that does not always end well. Right now, I will have to assume that Wilder (dressed as a kobold) walks straight into the clearing, along the east side of the cage and in a straight line down to the cabin door, while the rest of you stay hidden in your current spot behind the cage. Is that accurate?

OK, I agree with @Lycar.

Let's circle around to the east side, still in the jungle, and then Wilder will emerge and head directly for the cabin.

As we're going, maybe we can take a closer look at the mound of dirt?

I bet that Cirmaran could sneak up behind the mound and take a closer look.

With so many different parts to this camp, it feels like one of the most dangerous locations we've visited. Lots could (and probably will) go wrong. What fun!

Indeed! There are many different options here and no right or wrong approach - just possibilities. I have no idea how things will turn out - nothing is scripted in advance, so I'm as excited to see how things unfold as you are.

So, @Daryk - how does Cirmaran respond to this challenge? 🙄

I don't know about Cirmaran, but Boradur thinks it's a slightly odd idea, you dig a mine, you get a pile of dirt. Mildly interesting at best.

Might make an interesting vantage point for checking out something else though.

I would absolutely love to see Wilder's plan succeed! 🤗

Don't get me wrong, I'm fond of PF2's tactical combat, but the things I love? Like Samrod gently, but firmly convincing Pendergrast to leave that temple alone. Like Samrod trying to spread the words of Irori even to a Hobgoblin bandit. But also things like Cirmaran having some strong opinions on how the council of Breachill is dealing with a certain necromantress. Like Boradur being a Dwarf without turning into a 2d-cutout. Like Wilder being a chipper giant Halfling and just facing something like Dahak himself with that attitude.

That.

And if Wilder can actually pull this off? Better then spending IRL weeks fighting those cultists at any rate.

Don't get me wrong, if a fight breaks out, I will also put as much RP into Samrod's fighting as the restraints of sufficiently optimal combat tactics allow, but I will not miss that fight either.

Not sure I'm a big fan of the new dice roller - it will take some getting used to - and learning to use correctly...

Cirmaran can sneak the others around to where they want to go (Terrain Stalker FTW!), then go back and sneak up on the mound for a sniper's nest.

Unless I misread the rules (it has happened on occasion...) Terrain Scout allows you to choose one of your allies to gain the benefit of Terrain Stalker, not everyone. So you can't completely avoid rolling stealth checks. (Yes - in principle you could have Cirmaran ferry everyone from A to B for free one at a time, but that seems a bit cheesy to me).

Not to worry - I've rolled secret checks on your behalf 😇

Sometimes I feel like I should roll before I type out a deception check! Fortunately the dice worked out pretty well for me here, but I definitely would have said something different if the roll had been really bad.

Also, FYI, I'm doing college visits with my son the next 2 days. Might have time to post, but might not, or might just have time for a quick post.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but neither "quote" nor "clone" allows me to edit what I said before. What I WANT to post is that Cirmaran uses Message to inform his companions that the (actual) kobold seems to be riding the tiger, precariously atop a project they lead, but don't want to actually succeed. He deduced that from the ape-man calling the kobold "boss", and the complete lack of ruckus in the cabin. His thinking being that if the kobold was an actual fanatic like the other cultists they've encountered so far, there would at least be noise from the cabin. Wilder is smooth, but not smooth enough to fool a TRUE believer.

Good luck with the college visits! I'm still trying to get all four of mine to finish their degrees (they ALL quit during COVID).

Ugh, so sorry to hear that. Good luck helping your kids to figure things out. Covid was particularly hard on college students!
