Letting out a long sigh, Dolan left the small, dusty rooms and headed east down the hallway, then south when he got to the end of it. There was more ground to cover on this floor, and though Dolan now suspected that Yohan's armor might be upstairs with the Direlord tribe, he was at least going to make sure that they had checked as much as they could before returning to the dwarves or going upstairs.

With visible frustration, Dolan turns to leave the smaller chambers for the hallway and leads the company, ever vigilant, down thew winding corridors where a long hallway with several openings branching off it, including a stone door, reveals itself in the light of Qwynn's enchanted lantern.

Dolan inches forward towards the first branch, turning the glowstone to reveal a smallish barrel-vaulted hall scattered with debris, including the remnants of another small cooking fire. A half-dozen stained and ripped sleeping blankets lie scattered across the floor of the hall.

Dolan takes a few moments to give a quick search of the sleeping blankets, wary for any hidden traps around them, then proceeds south to the end of the hallway, his eyes peeled for traps and the glowstone and dagger in his hands.

Dolan's search turns up nothing of note and travelling down the corridor, you come upon another chamber, similar in appearance and contents for the one you'd just searched. At the end of the corridor it branches north before opening up to a small, barrel-vaulted hall, largely empty of dust and debris. Broad stone steps
lead down into darkness at one corner and a large brass gong stands in the opposite corner of the room from the stair.

Seeing the stairs leading downward, Dolan wishes that he had kept better track of the floors relative positions to each other, so that he might have some idea of where those stairs headed. There was one sure-fire way to tell, and since those stairs led down, he didn't think it would mean they would be heading into Direlord territory yet.

There were still a few places left to quickly search on this floor, however, and Dolan heads west down the hallway to the door, checking it for traps and then opening it, attempting to unlock the door if necessary.

Retracing his steps with the rest of you in tow, Dolan finds no traps on the stone door and further confirms its unlocked. Swinging it open and carefully moving inside, he finds the chamber ends abruptly. In the center of the floor is a small hole. There is an empty niche on the wall beside it. While this area resembles a simple latrine, there is no odiferous smell to be inhaled.

"It's a privy, though it hasn't been used recently," Dolan says, leaving the room and closing the door behind him. The last time they had encountered a dwarven latrine, something had crawled out of it, so Dolan thought it best to leave well enough alone. Besides, he didn't like the idea of sticking his face down in the hole to see if there might be something that the orcs and goblins hadn't already stolen.

He heads east down the hallway, glowstone and dagger in hand, keeping his eyes peeled for traps, and he takes the first hallway leading north, starting to suspect that Yohan's equipment might not be on this floor.

The privvy room was something Yohan would make a mental note of...

Yohan was beginning to realise the underground labyrinth of corridors, traps and chambers was larger than he had envisaged. And the presence of a privvy indicated perhaps they were some distance from the great outdoors.

"I simply don't believe the scale of this underground labyrinth... what is this some kind of underground city... a dwarven stronghold overtaken by Orcs and Goblin's...?" Yohan asks... he was beginning to wonder how many orcs and goblins he'd have to fight to find his gear...

Bettargh weighs in at Yohan's question in Common, his voice carrying a Calant accent is grim and determined, and mayhap somewhat offended?

"Dese be na 'labyrinth' but da once mighty halls of Runedardath, seat of da Arcrown of Dardath! Stout Folk, me kin, delved an crafted ere, making bright weapons a metal, fine tools, and stone carvings. Granite an marble from the quarry 'elow was used ta build castles and
cathedrals throughout the Fallen Kingdoms, including courts na fergotten and runined in Ardeep, Athalantar, Delimbiyran, an Elembar ta name but few!
Des halls fell in da Year of the Black Horde when da last an greatest of da tusker hordes of da North flow down ere..."

Following Dolan down one corridor and then another, a hall opens up to your left and a now familiar sight greets you. A small, barrel-vaulted hall is scattered with debris, including the remnants of a small cooking fire. A half-dozen sleeping blankets lie scattered across the floor.

The Knight of Aster was beginning to realise he may never see his armor again. It was a cruel joke inflicted upon him by a terrible god as a parting gift for leaving Waterdeep. It was a crushing blow for the Soldier of Light... and to never again to behold his holy mace that radiated Lathander's light.

A tear welled up in his left eye, it did that from time to time. "Thats ok" thought Yohan... he would save his emotions and use it against the Orcs when it was time. He really really missed his armor, shield and holy mace.

"You are pretty tough for a Stout Folk, Bettargh... tell me, where would your kin have stored treasures around here?" Yohan asks...

Moon Elf Ranger from Neverwinter Wood


Qwynn asks his companions, "Do we know where those stairs go to?" He is thinking that they should finish mapping out this floor level before moving on to another. He shifts the lantern from the stairs to the North to indicate that they still need to search some more on this level.

Dolan shakes his head at Qwynn's question. "I don't believe so. But we can find out shortly," he said, continuing to investigate the floor, and keeping an ear out for Yohan's and Bettargh's conversation to make sure things don't get too heated. Yohan was right, of course. Runedardath was a labyrinth full of creatures that wanted to eat them, though maybe the halls were designed to be intuitive for a dwarf to navigate as naturally as a human would walk through a market in Daggerford. When they had a chance to relax, he decided that he'd ask Bettargh or Trammel just how dwarves navigate underground without getting lost.

Dolan heads west into the hallway and then north, investigating the unexplored areas just north of their position, keeping an eye out for traps.

Bettargh raises an eyebrow at Yohan's question.

"We all mus steel ourselves ta retake what be ours! I dona think I'd be tellin ya if'n I knew ere treasures av old be stored, ba I was a wee one when our Clans left ese halls, an I canna say. Da Arcrown be hoping dis very lot may find da answer. Ba I can say da above ere be da Longbeard Halls. Ere the Arcrown of old received visiting emissaries an a marketplace for trading with da humans and elves of old."

As he speaks, Bettargh and the rest of you follow shortly behind Dolan who heads up the corridor to the first chamber that opens up off it to your left. This barrel-vaulted hall, unlike others on this level so far, is dominated by diabolic sigils adorning the walls, painted in blood, but otherwise appears empty.

Yohan was thinking about this as he took up the rear leading his horse through the halls of Runedardath. Upstairs seemed a good option when you were underground.

"Upstairs" thought Yohan...

"My good fellow Bettargh... tell me, have you ever ridden a horse ?" Yohan asks...
