Before Dolan can get too far, Bettargh pipes up and informs you that down this passage is a warded stair that leads up to the Halls of the Stout Folk down here. They were well guarded above before the dwarves puled back to more defensible positions. This was a route the dwarves had recently been assaulted from by the cultists before you'd last returned to their Halls above.

Human (Illuskan/Chondathan), Rogue

Dolan thanks Bettargh and decides better than to use their time scouting already well-known territory. Just because they hadn't laid eyes on it didn't mean that it was unexplored, and although time wasn't as important a factor as it was before they shut off the flow of the poisoned water, they had a few jobs to do that should be done sooner rather than later.

"As I see it, now that we've stopped the flow of the poisonous green water into the Delimbiyr, we've got three main tasks ahead of us: Recovering the lost regalia for the Ironaxe dwarves, recovering the bones of a dryad from the orcs and trolls on the floors above us for the wild elves, and killing as many dragon cultists as it takes for them to stop their operations here," Dolan says, counting them out on his fingers.

"Unless I'm mistaken, that's likely the order we should accomplish them in as well. If there are no objections, I'll lead us back to the area where we fought the troll to continue our search there," Dolan says, casting a glance at Baldin to make sure he's alright with going back to the place where he was brutally killed by a troll the previous day.

Baldin

Human (Chondathan), Cleric of Lathander

Baldin takes a breath before nodding at the suggestion.

"Have we gotten ways to reliably burn any more trolls we encounter? I am afraid I have no prayers that will aid us, I am planning to research the church records when we return but that doesn't help us now."

Bettargh agrees with Dolan's assessment and priorities, pointing out the quickest way back to the orc tribe's territories is through the Halls of Clan Ironaxe. Leading the way, he gets you back to the large Hall of the Fallen King in less than a candle's burning. Any sign of the ethereal spirit of the warrior Arcrown Devin Ironaxe is gone, and so are the corpses of the dead orcs and their minions. Silence fills the darkness of the massive hall.

Finwe Faline
Sun Elf, Wizard

Once they reach the room with the circle in the floor, the site of their last big fight, he speaks up with a suggestion.

How about we head south first and clear that area first. We know that the majority of the orcs and the troll came from the passage heading east. So maybe leave that one for last. Assuming they have not placed guards in the hall.

Dolan listens to Finwe and nods. As long as they didn't get flanked and their escape route cut off, that would work.

"I know last time there were warning gongs that the goblins were able to hit that brought orcs and trolls running. If we hear those warning gongs, we retreat to this room, agreed? We want to have a clear way out that can't be blocked by a troll," he said.

He led the group to the right down the south hallway, enchanted dagger in one hand and glowstone in the other, keeping an eye out for traps and listening intently for the sound of any living creatures ahead of him in the hallway.

Inching forward carefully, you soon come to an intersection off of which branches a smaller barrel-vaulted hall, empty save for dusty debris, and two long dark corridors, which Finwe confirms either run beyond his sharper sight or end in a wall.

Dolan

Human (Illuskan/Chondathan), Rogue

Anticipating that they were about to be in combat, Dolan quietly creeps down the hallway, heading east. Suspecting that the hallway to the east held more storage rooms full of goblins, and not wanting to have their exit cut off by a troll, he quietly listens for any reaction to the approaching light.

Sticking to the southern side of the hallway, Dolan keeps an eye out for anything moving in the opening to the north.

Moving carefully down the hallway, keeping to the south wall, Dolan soon finds it stretches on beyond the light shed by the glowstone, and a stone door in an alcove soon comes into view. He can make out no unusual sounds as of yet, only the usual eerie silence of the abandoned halls.

Giving Baldin a chance to cast a light spell, Dolan tucks away the glowstone, creeping up to the door and quickly scanning it for traps. If he finds none, he'll put an ear to the door and listen for any noise coming from the other side. If he hears none, he'll try the handle, and if it's locked, he'll attempt to pick the lock.

Eyeing the door carefully, Dolan pockets the glowstone as Baldin completes an incantation and rosy light springs forth around his shield. Dolan next sneaks forward, the rest of the company in toe, quiet as they can manage with Baldin and Bettargh's armors clunking and clinging.

As soon as he steps into the alcove, Dolan senses he'd missed something! With an almost imperceptible clinking, the floor below him gives way and a gaping pit opens up below him!

There seems to have been one benefit to all the dwarven traps Dolan has triggered to date in the halls and that's his now enhanced reflexes. Like an cat, the rogue manages to leap aside at the last moment as the dark pit opens at his feet...

Dolan

Human (Illuskan/Chondathan), Rogue

With a lunge off of the quickly-dropping floor, Dolan comes to rest on the edge of the door frame where a small ledge has been left. Turning his head to face the others, he offers a grin. Dropping floors were easier to avoid than dropping ceilings, apparently, and he was unharmed.

"That could have gone worse," he said, once again working on getting the door open. He tries the handle to see if it is locked, and then tries to unlock it if it is, balancing on the ledge.
