Name: Matilda
Race: Beholder
Size: Medium
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Cloistered Cleric 1, Beholder Mage 2
Monster Class: Beholder

Personality

Unlike other beholders, Matilda is friendly, curious and free spirited. Unfortunately for her, she was also naive. Because people feared her, she chose to become a mage, in doing so, sacrificing natural powers. She vowed to be helpful, and attack only to aid and protect the people she is with. She recently was able to take on her humanoid form, because an evil adventurer attacked her, after defending herself, she took a nibbled the flesh of his fingertip out of necessity.

Benefit

You gain a +1 bonus on Knowledge checks (although this does not let you use a Knowledge skill untrained).
Drawback

You take a -1 penalty on Spot checks and Listen checks.
Roleplaying Ideas

Characters with this trait might flit from idea to idea, trailing off in mid-sentence or mumbling their way through complex ideas. Conversely, characters with this trait might be extremely articulate but still allow their thoughts to move faster than the pace of a conversation.

Flaws: CuriousYou are easily distracted by the sights and sounds around you.
Effect: You suffer a -2 penalty on Listen and Spot checks. You also suffer a -2 penalty on initiative rolls.
Suggested Class/Race: Gnome

In addition, any armor check penalties you have are also doubled (or tripled, in the case of making a Swim check).

Exalted Bonus Feats: Nymph's Kiss, Touch of Golden Ice
Class Ailities: 1st: Lore (Ex), Turn Undead (Su), Aura (Ex) 2nd: Arcane Hands (Su)A beholder mage develops the ability to manipulate objects as if with a mage hand spell. This ability is constantly active and can not only manipulate objects but also use magic items like wands, staffs, rods, and some wondrous items (like a bag of tricks). The hand cannot activate items that must be worn to utilize an effect (such as a helm of brilliance).

A beholder mage's arcane hand has an effective Strength score equal to the creature's beholder mage class level. An arcane hand can be used to perform any attack or defensive action for which a regular hand can be used. Using an arcane hand to make an unarmed strike provokes attacks of opportunity unless the beholder mage has the Improved Unarmed Strike feat. Theoretically, a beholder mage with monk levels could use its arcane hand for its unarmed attacks.

Since Beholder Mage casts new spell levels every level. I am spacing them out for every odd level.
Beholder Mage 1st/3rd level, Cloistered Cleric 2nd, then Beholder Mage every odd level after. 5/7/9/11 and so on, to reflect normal caster progression.

Only requirement is no central eye. I don't have the said power of the central eye, but character doesn't have a central eye.
Eye's Stalks Sacrificed per Beholder Mage class level.

1st: Sleep
2nd: Charm Person
3rd: Slow
4th: Inflict Wounds
5th: Fear
6th: Telekinesis
7th: Flesh to Stone
8th: Charm Monster
9th: Finger of Death
10th: Disintegrate

  • 3 weeks later...

I realize that this is becoming a frustrating pattern for you, but I have to reject his: there's no way I can ask somebody to DM for a beholder mage PC.

I have to put beholder mage on the banned list. I'm also going to list Illithid Savant.

And, you're allowed to interrupt an RLA Progression for a template, but not a class level.
