Detailed Description

I was going to do a fancy faux title crawl, but that would undermine the way I'm planning to run this game. So, dry, out-of-character introduction it is.

Hello, all. This is a game using StarORE, a microgame using the One Roll Engine, set in the Star Wars universe.

Haven't heard of it? Reasonable. It's old, and also tiny โ€” at a mere 14 pages. I did say microgame. But it is also free, and you can check out its PDF o'er here.

So what is this, then? Well, obviously, I am running a game of StarORE. It will be play-by-post, and hosted entirely on Myth Weavers.

The game is set in-between the fall of the Old Republic and the start of the first movie, a time of tumult, tyranny, and also bold, go-getting heroism. The specifics of time, place, and story will be determined by what you, my prospective players, are interested in. A story of jedi apprentices dodging the Empire's extermination squads? Stormtroopers shaking off their conditioning to break free of the Empire and make their own path in life? A smuggler crew making ends meet at the edge of known space? It's all possible.

I'm hoping for a group of between 3 and 5 players, and aim to retain a steady posting rate. At least a couple posts per week, more (but smaller) when we're in combat.

When making your character (which you can do over here) I want you to pitch me who you want to play and what story you want them to be a part of. Is your idea only a slice of a wider story, or worthy of the main plot? Would you rather ride along on someone else's adventure? Regardless, that will just be the seed. I'm sure once we get going all kinds of craziness will happen.

If you have questions, you can ask them over here.

This'll be my first time running a game on the new site. Apologies if I do not know how everything works, I'm doing my best.

  1. What's new in this game
  2. I'm so sorry to hear this! My condolences--losing a pet is never easy. :(
  3. With apologies. I will be keeping the forum up, and will let you know if I intend to return. Since posting the above, I've had yet another Event occur. My cat will have to be put to sleep due to kidney failure (the second cat I've lost in the last thirty days, the first being the real start of my declining ability to post). So... feeling pretty justified that, yeah, I am unlikely to have the will or time to devote towards the game. So it goes.
  4. I think I rolled...twice? All of you at least got to experience the system. Ah well.
  5. I'm sorry to hear, but I understand. I'm glad we got to try this - I actually find this system has sufficient crunchiness for me to enjoy character building while not being a mechanical grind to play. I like it.
  6. Aww shucks. It was very fun to play with you all tho. Maybe we can try again sometime in the future!
  7. Sorry to hear, but I get it. Life just be like that sometimes. Hope it gets better for you. Thanks for showing me a cool new system and thinking about dice differently. The rest of you don't have a character archive on MW? Almost everything I post gets saved there once I like it.
  8. Same here lol, was looking forward to being a boss mook who would eventually be won over by the power of friendship and incredible violence.
  9. Thanks a lot for GMing for us! It was a good time, despite our fumbling with the rules. If you ever feel like starting it up again or re-doing it, drop me a PM, I'd be willing to play again. And that goes for everyone else in the game too, I really enjoyed playing with everyone!
  10. Yeah, sorry to hear about your unanticipated busy-ness. Hope your life gets back to less-than-a-thousand-miles-per-hour. I'll second NewSheo: if you're going to shut down (archive or whatever it's called), give us a heads up so that I can copy everything over to somewhere else. Thanks for the introduction to StarORE, and the exciting game start. It was fun!
  11. Well, that's definitely unfortunate, but sometimes life does have a nasty habit of happening. Thank you for the fun times, and best of luck with everything. Are you going to keep the game forum up? I'll probably end up using Rasaja's backstory and whatnot for use in future.
  12. I return from the abyss! ... With bad news. Events continue to be going at a thousand miles an hour on my end. I would say I will keep you posted, but realistically things will not settle down for a long while yet. With apologies to all involved, I'll have to end the game here.
  13. I recall them saying Things were too hectic and they'd be checking back in after the turn of the year.
  14. Was wondering when we'd be able to pick this back up lol
  15. Hmm... hasn't been on since last month. I suppose we only just passed Orthodox Christmas though so... maybe that's it for the "holidays"?
  16. This was it. The firing reticle inched closer and closer to the starship's engines, already burning blinding white. The hairy thumb moved back to the red button, and at that moment, the glow of the freighter's engines crescendoed in a familiar way, "NO!" he roared and hammered his thumb onto the button, sending an erratic spray of laser cannon fire through the empty space where his quarry had once been. "Aaarrrrgghhh!" he released it, a primal rage. If he had been present of mind enough in that moment, he would perhaps have seen how animal and savage he had become, but instead he just started angrily smashing buttons on his targeting computer, hoping it had recorded the freighter's last known trajectory. OOCWould I be able to figure out at least approximately where the Gull was headed?
  17. So, can we spend XP once we hit hyperspace? Is that adequate downtime?

She did a few assessments in her head, weighing the risks of the situation. The Gull had been doing its best, its rattly engines pushed as far as they could go, and the Wookiee's starfighter was still on their tail like an orbalisk on a drexl. She had enough info to make a lightspeed jump in relative safety, letting her own strange sense of the flow of hyperspace fill in for the missing info. Relative safety being the operative term - it wasn't just her and Deepo this time, she had crew and a paying passenger she would prefer to keep in one piece. A passenger that a certain bounty hunter was gunning for at the moment, she reminded herself. Making her decision in only a few seconds, she leaped from her seat at the nav panel and slid into her accustomed seat at the pilot's station. As she seized her controls, she thumbed the internal comms circuit. "This is your capatin speaking," she said, voice calm and confident, "we are about to make the jump to hyperspace. Please be sure to keep your hands, feet, and lekku inside the vessel at all times, stow your luggage, and make sure you know where your towel is." She made an abrupt snap-roll and aimed the ship toward open space, lining herself up on the exit vector the computer recommended. No, wait. Just a nudge... there, that felt right. "If you feel the need to vomit, please don't. In case of emergency the forward cockpit can act as an escape pod, and there are two other pods located nowhere because I replaced them with torpedo storage. Our flight time will take however long it takes. Thank you for flying Kishatriya Spacelines." As the pursuing starfighter sent a spray of blaster fire their way, no doubt seeing what was going on and desperately trying to stop it, she closed her eyes and opened herself to the eddies and currents of the strange alternative space that surrounded them. Yes, this direction felt right. The timing felt right. She felt a wave swelling in the ether, ready to carry them along to their destination. Her hand reached out to touch the little spring-mounted plastic figurine of a purrgil that bobbled on her dashboard, before sliding over to squeeze and pull down the levers in the center console. The stars stretched and swirled into a blue vortex of light, and the freighter was gone.
  19. I think we're up to 6 EXP? One for each Monday we've passed.
  20. me neither ๐Ÿ˜ฌ happy holidays everyone! ๐ŸŽ„
  21. Holidays gonna Holiday. I get you. Rest, recover, and don't worry too much.
  22. Yeah, I hope you have a happy holidays too! I will write a scene of our escape into Hyperspace once I get home tonight. One question: will we still accrue EXP over the break? :)
  23. It be like that sometimes. Happy Holidays, and hope things get a bit less hectic for you!
