The campaign should take roughly 6 months.

Style:
Spelljammer is a silly place. This is not a gritty tragedy. Penguins talk. Goldfish-bowls-with-brains-in-them use psionics. I may use cartoon physics for a laugh. Take a peek at our Tier 1 Spelljammer game if you'd like a sense of it: Link to Previous Game

Players:
Recruiting 4. Already have 3 from the Spelljammer Academy game. A total of 7.

Party Composition:
Doesn't matter much to me. But we have an astral elf bladesinger wizard, plasmoid mercy monk, and thri-keen (tbd).

Desired Players:
I am looking for people who love reading and writing. If you don't like either of those things, please don't apply. I want players who read not only DM posts but player posts too. I want players that enjoy crafting entertaining posts. I want to create scenes together.

Hook:
You don't know of any threat immediately starting out, but your character should have a strong desire to save the planet, Toril, when they do realize it is in danger. They don't have to be a hero. Maybe they don't want their stash of gold to get blown up. Maybe they finally got a girlfriend and don't want that opportunity to go away.

Starting Scene:
We begin in Baldur's Gate, at a little cafe overlooking the beautiful yet foggy Chionthar River. Yes, BG3 has happened. Any reason to be in a city will work. Maybe you needed to check on that stash of gold. Maybe you are finally dating that girlfriend. We will likely leave Toril near the second page of posts.

Character Story:
Dirty Harry is an awesome character and I have no clue who his parents were, where he was born, or what happened to him growing up. Please focus on details that will make a memorable, unique character during actual gameplay. Details that you can actually use in every. Single. Post. Bullet points are fine, as are a few paragraphs. If you write a novel I will read it.

Allowed Crunch:

  • 27 point buy
  • Level 5. Adventure will take you to 9.
  • Lineages: No flying. Its the Multiverse, but remember the Hook...Dragonlance or Eberron characters should have some investment in Toril. Use any source except Strixhaven. Variant Human is ok. Character options from Tashas are allowed. Be aware in particular of Spelljammer lineages in play (Astral Elf, Plasmoid, Hadozee, Autognome, Thri-keen, Giff)
  • Spelljammer Feat: Spelljammer was the first in a 5e trend to give feats to all characters at level 1. You essentially get a free feat if your background doesn't offer one. However, this is a very short list: Magic Initiate, Skilled, or Tough.
  • Classes: Official only. No Critical Role or 3rd Party.
  • Backgrounds: From official sources, or use PHB rules for custom. The Spelljammer backgrounds both have very flavorful Features.
  • Equipment: Normal loadout selection (or sellback for half) and 625 gp for mundane (PHB) gear.
  • Psionics: Is fairly common in Spelljammer.
  • Firearms: Also very common, but not so much starting out on Toril. Gunner feat is available. Muskets, pistols, and ammo (DMG) can be purchased at creation. Custom laser rifles, shotguns, revolvers, grenades, and dynamite sticks will be available later.

Magic Items:
1 uncommon of your choice, subject to DM approval. If you'd like to choose 3 and have me pick one to settle on, that might work well.

Wizards:
Scribe 5 additional spell levels of spells of your choice for free. No other scrolls may be purchased at this time.

Variants and Houserules:Spelljammer, Dohwar | GM Binder

  • 1st Round Initiative: I do this a bit different than other pbp DMs. For 5e, the first round is critical. Initiative will be rolled for each character, and each group of enemies. Afterwards it typically becomes the block initiative everyone is used to.
  • Initiative Order Matters when it Matters: Usually it doesn't matter what order your actions are resolved. Sometimes it does. Most commonly for spells that resolve at the end of turns, or for healing 0hp PCs. When it doesn't matter I ignore order. When it matters, I pay attention to it.
  • No short rest identify. Requires Identify spell, specialist merchant, library, etc.
  • Exotic languages cost double. For example, you can get 2 languages from a background. If you want Celestial, it takes both. (Chapter 4 PHB for list)
  • Theater of mind. No grid.
  • Slow Natural Healing. A healing kit is required to heal hp during any type of rest. Both short and long rests require HD to be spent.
  • Inspiration. Start with Inspiration. Get a refresh every level, or more frequently depending on your posts.

Misc:

  • Downtime: Space is big. Travel takes time. There is going to be a ton of downtime. Please have some ideas on what you can be doing while the ship flies through space. I offer custom boons and items based on the RP scenes you create. Use it to explore your character and create scenes of your own design.
  • Posting Templates: Please keep the crunch minimal. Don't let it be bigger than your actual post. If you really need every single detail displayed, please spoiler.
  • Character Sheet: I don't need much. Ability scores, lineage, class, feats and proficiencies is enough for me to extrapolate from. Anything else is for you.
  • HP after 1st: 1st max. After, roll hp. Reroll if below average (keep if average or above).
