In a flash of bloody cleavers and magic, the two ape-like creatures were dead (or nearly so) in front of Flickwit. He blinked slowly as he lowered his knife, and then heard Ms Alice screaming. He saw her ready herself to jump, shouted "Look out! She's gonna jump!" then he ducked to the side of the stairs, and readied himself to strike once she landed.

Shaun

By the time Shaun re-enters the common room the last of the demonic chimps has been dealt with, leaving only one target. Unfortunately this is likely going to be the worst one yet.. Certainly the most talkative.

Shaun remains behind the bar, prepared to throw a butcher's knife at Ms. Alice if she decides to drop down to the first floor and within range.

Ms. Alice leaps the banister and crashes down to the floor of the common room. She absorbs the twelve-foot drop with a slight flex of her knees, and narrows her eyes at you.

Dalia gets her attention first. "Your mindless gods have no power here, witch!"

With that, Ms. Alice lashes out with her hook and chain. It snaps out like a snake, coiling tight around Dalia's neck. Ms. Alice jerks the weapon hard, ripping Dalia to the ground.

Ms. Alice then recovers her weapon with a flick of her wrist.

"Who's next?"

OOC: Dalia takes 13HP damage and is knocked prone. Ms. Alice can use Mighty Deeds as a warrior and has a D7 deed die.

Shaun

Prepared for Ms. Alice's approach if not necessarily the ease with which she pulls Dalia to her knees, Shaun springs to action. He pulls his arm back then swings it forward with all the strength he can muster, sending one of his blood-stained butcher's knives flying at the terrifying matron.

Well aware of the threat the woman poses, he then promptly ducks low behind the bar to avoid her hook and chain. This also means he doesn't get to see just how badly he misses his mark..

OOC:
..well at least it's not a fumble!

Dahlia was in mortal danger, and Ms. Alice was in range of his blades. Quin has a simple solution: he advances and slashes at her with both of his cleavers.

"HRRRK!" Dalia gurgled out involuntarily as a metal hook dove into her neck. She gripped at it to soften the force and hopefully not tear her throat out. Unfortunately the change in her momentum knocked her to the ground and in a pool of her own blood. She coughed and pressed into the wound, gritting her teeth as she pushed back up to her feet.

Perhaps her God was testing her--seeing if she had true grit. She'd just have to make due without his healing potential.

"You think they have no power, yet how do we resist?" the witch replied, a grin still hanging onto her face.

"You are but one more sacrifice!"

  • 2 weeks later...

Keeping his distance from the chain-wielding former-bartender/demonic monstrosity, Flickwit hurls his blade at the woman's back, hoping against hope that he actually hits her. As the blade flies through the air, he has a moment to wonder what he did in his life to deserve this awful fate. And as the cleaver slices into in the back of her skull and sends her reeling for a moment, he thinks to himself "Well, whatever I did wasn't as bad as what this beastie has been up to..."

OOC:

Flickwit throws his cleaver at Miss Alice, dealing 3 damage and dazing her with his backstab. She is now Dazed and her speed and actions are reduced by half.

Shaun hurls a knife at Ms. Alice, but it flies wide. Quin steps forward, slashing away at the horrific innkeeper, but she easily defends against his attacks.

Dalia, still on her knees, attempts to call upon her unknowable gods to heal herself, but they - ever mysterious - decline to help.

Flickwit hurls his cleaver at Ms. Alice, which ricochets off the side of her skull and knocks a spurt of blood out of the strange wound she bears between her glowing red eyes. She staggers forward and seems stunned.

Quin grins as Miss Alice seems unable to attack. Unable to come up with witty quips, Quin growls "I want my back pay. " as he slashes at her again.

Dalia stepped forward, twirling her holy symbol on its chain in a circle at her side. She could see the thing-that-was-Alice become stunned. The cultist grinned.

"Oh no! You're stunned!" she feigned kindness, spinning the symbol into a downward arc toward "Alice" like a smith would hammer an anvil.

Shaun

Shaun prepares himself mentally for another volley, drawing his arm back in preparation. As he stands however he finds his friends in close quarters with the terrifying Ms. Alice and his previous butcher's knife stuck in the wall behind her. Putting two and two together he figures this is not the time to go throwing more knives, lest he hit his friends by accident.

Instead Shaun takes the opportunity to exit the end of the bar area and circle the brawl to find an unguarded angle. Seeing an opening he lunges forward to slice at Ms. Alice with his borrowed butcher's knife! Unfortunately the blade fails to make contact.

OOC:
I'm using this turn to position Shaun so that next round he can step up to Ms. Alice and flank her in melee (if she's still here and up).

Per @cailano's guidance below I'm updating this post with a melee attack.

You can get to a flanking position and still take an action or make an attack.

Ms. Alice seems dazed, but as you close in with your attacks, it becomes clear that she is far from helpless. She deftly defends against Dalia and parries one of Quin's attacks. The second only grazes her hip.

Shuan moves near Flickwit, ready to attack from the rear.

OOC: Ms. Alice takes 2hp damage from Quin. Currently at 41hp (includes damage from Flickwit's thrown cleaver earlier.)
