cailano Posted April 24 Author Clone Share Posted April 24 Doorfin The northern passage is a dead end. It's more easily defended than a wide-open cavern, but you'd risk being trapped there if there were a battle. TheMightyDeeEmm Posted April 26 Clone Share Posted April 26 While Flickwit is very much exhausted and more than ready to close his eyes for even a few minutes’ rest, he is still high strung and his paranoia is running rampant. He thoroughly searches the northern passage to check there’s no awful secrets hiding in the shadows, ready to tear their throats out as they rest. cailano Posted April 26 Author Clone Share Posted April 26 You move to the north chamber and attempt to rest. The graveyard remains quiet for about two hours. Novia From your position at the mouth of the tunnel that leads back to the cellar, you see a light at the far end, and you hear a voice that sounds a little like the innkeeper, Ms. Alice. Only she sounds angry. "The little rats must have come back down here. Let's check the tunnel." Ms. Alice is coming, and plans to check the tunnel for us." she quietly explains. TheMightyDeeEmm Posted April 27 Clone Share Posted April 27 Flickwit has to hold back a scream of woe. More senseless violence, more cruelty, more terror. He sighed in resignation as he fell back on his best method of survival: skulking in the shadows and waiting for the best moment to strike. “You keep her distracted, friends.” He says as he skulks off into the shadows. “I’ll wait for the right moment to strike.” Name xDiceName xDiceResult xDiceString xDiceRolls Sneak Silently 15 d20+9+2 4 Hide in Shadows 22 d20+7+2
Cairo Posted April 27 Clone Share Posted April 27 Shaun Hearing Novia's warning Shaun is quick to snuff and stow the lantern, before starting to move back towards the tunnel using the candle light. "Was Malice alone?" he asks Novia in a low voice. "Forcing her to fight from the tunnel might be more beneficial to her than us. She has the upper hand one-on-one," he comments to Doørfin. "But perhaps the tunnel entrance is still the best place to set up. If there are open, shallow graves close enough, we can hide out of sight in them and hopefully get the jump on her." cailano Posted April 28 Author Clone Share Posted April 28 The graves -- should you choose to use them -- are shallow. Most are only 3 - 4 feet deep. Ms. Alice's grave is different from the others and is seemingly only a foot deep (it is still covered in dirt, Doorfin just pushed his axe through it.) It also seems evident that Ms. Alice (or at least Malice) is not in the shallow grave since Novia just heard her in the tunnel. You also recall how long it took you to slog through the deep, loose dirt in the tunnel. Even if Malice can navigate it more quickly than you did, you probably have around 20 minutes before she gets to the graveyard cavern. Rakle Posted April 29 Clone Share Posted April 29 Thinking about things for a moment, Novia suddenly suggests "Let's open Alice's coffin. If she is out here, what is in there? Maybe her real body, or her phylactery, or maybe our stuff. He would remain cognizant of the time and when it felt like ten minutes had passed he'd instead go to guard the cavern entrance. His hope was to keep Malice in the sand whilst he himself stayed outside it--should it come to that. cailano Posted April 30 Author Clone Share Posted April 30 Doorfin and Novia spend the next few minutes clearing the dirt from Ms. Alice's grave. The soil is very loose and it really is more like clearing than digging. You expose a convex wooden floor. It's in the shape of a coffin lid but doesn't have a coffin beneath it. What do you do? ** OOC: It takes one turn (ten minutes) to clear the dirt. You now have ten minutes before Malice reaches the Graveyard Cavern. Cairo Posted May 2 Clone Share Posted May 2 Shaun Shaun grabs a lit candle from one of the gravestones on his way, then sets himself up some 20 feet to the side from the tunnel entrance. He selects a 4 feet deep open grave, deep enough for him to hide in and leave his backpack and Truthsinger out of sight. He then extracts an oil flask and flint and steel from his pack and curses silently as he realizes he has no torches. Seeing Doørfin approach he gestures the dwarf his way, speaking in hushed tones and only once the dwarf is very close. "Can you spare a torch? I figured we have yet to try burning that witch to death, might as well give it a go." Once the dwarf hands over one of his torches the man makes sure everything is set up: oil flask for his right hand, torch for his left, flint and steel in a pocket, short sword hanging from his belt. The candle he has dug in firmly in the soil at the bottom of the grave so that it won't fall over. "This would be easier if someone else could toss the oil at her..." he comments to Doørfin, again speaking in a very low voice as he goes through his plan and indicates each of the items. "You can hide there against the wall where you shouldn't be immediately visible from the tunnel. I'll toss the oil flask on Malice when she enters the cave. You then keep her busy while I light the torch either from the candle or with the flint and steel, and toss it at her as well. I can't light the torch in advance, lest she spots its glow from the tunnel... but the dim candle light should be less suspicious, especially as the grave blocks most of it."
