Session 1.2: The Sons of Gazardiel [Combat]

Location: NERV-London, Zone 3 and Zone 4 boarder

Time and date: 13:13pm, Thursday, 21st September 2023

 

Round 7 summary

Angela Yumi

(Anya's Support)

 

Emiko find herself within close proximity of the Second Son, a location too dangerous to shoot, and hazardous for an AT-tactician. With a burst of speed she moves away from her foe, prompting him to swing out wildly with his left arm, the extended bone spear slicing through buildings in an attempt to get her.

When Emiko and Amatersu as a safe distance away a flurry of bullets are set loose, the majority miss but a select through are able to break through the Entity's weakened AT field and strike the upper body. This strike is complimented by a well placed shot from Anya, the bullet striking the only remaining arm of the Second Son, tearing flesh and muscle away from the bone.

Zelda shifts her neutralizing to that of Second Son, as soon as that happens Angela's voice enters both Zelda's and Anya's ears. "Second Sons' maximum AT capacity has dropped, roughly 50%. Only one of you is required to neutralize, I advise Anya continues neutralizing."

Chris Lowes glances up briefly when Serena speaks to him, commenting on his control of the situation. His face it stern, obviously a little annoyed at the reprimanding he has received, though doesn't speak out against his captain. Instead he open a line of communication to Emiko, "good work so far, ensure you plug in the power you pulled across. You have a minimal operation time left."

Angela hears her captain speak, though doesn't look at her, instead simply raises her head indicating that she is listening. Her reply to the captain is simple, "I will not miss it next time." As this conversation goes on the barrage of turret fire slams into the Second Son, with no AT field present he is an open target for the local forces.

 

Round 8

The Second Son

The First Son moves away from his closest threat and once more unleashes an attack against Anya, a small wave of bullets fly towards her, though before the damage can be felt Emiko is quick to spread another barrier protecting her fellow pilot.

 

The Second Son continues to chase Amaterasu, seemingly unphased with a missing head and arm. With relative ease runs down the street as its beings to swing out with its weapon at the Mecha, though wild strike are rarely accurate.

The First Son

Tarvgarian Analysis - Second son has 19 wounds at the start of this round.

@Rudra - Sorry, my previous post may not have been clear. The Containment field that was holding you was dropped in the First Son's last set of actions.

 

Show combat mechanics

Amaterasu - 1 rounds of power left, end of the next round you will power down @Neopopulas. You are NOT in melee range of grabbing the power plug, need to be on the square.

Show Emiko attack corrections

As discussed in private thread, you cannot shoot point blank. So I have moved you a short distance away, Second Son get an attack. Also, your post says you are attacking first son in your action, but second son in your table. I believe the attempt was against Second son.

 

It also looks like you done a full attack, full auto (say this cause 3 ammo used and a full attack) but haven't taken into account the +20 from it? I get your TN as this; 35 (base) + 5 (entry plug) + 30 (point blank) + 20 (full auto) = 90, so you hit. If I have made an error let me know, but I will rule in player favour here.

 

This means 1 hit, two misses (2 collatreal). Hit location is 58 (body) and you rolled 6 damage.

Free action - Makes an attack against Amaterasu as she moves away. Rolled a 29 (-20 WS), hit location 92 (left leg). Rolled 10 on damage, rolled 75 to hit so misses. Damage is 16 impact, breach is 3 (but you AT field is 0), pen is 3.

Half action - Moves to Amaterasu .

Half action - Attacks Amaterasu (-10 WS for small scale), rolls a 91 and doesn't hit.

What a mess, if only she knew about Stabby status just a few moments ago, Zelda once again try to bring order into chaos "Anya, stop shooting at Stabby, he's in melee with Emiko and its armored, you're not going to kill it with that, move next to Amaterasu and Stabby then plug in your cable into Emiko's Eva, if we lose the White Witch, we lose the barrier, if we lose the barrier...we lose, you have enough autonomy to go pick another cable later." is she trying to overwrite Silver's orders? yes she is, truth to be told Zelda consider what come from command as guidelines not orders, she's the one fighting and will fight however the damn she think is best "Fly entity doesnt shot at those next to his brother, lets exploit it, we butcher Stabby in melee, our knives can better pierce his armor, Fly is awful in melee so even if he join, no big deal "

Said that she reposition and then charge Stabby, her attack isnt accurate but at least got her where she wanted to be

"Got it Angela, will do". Anya keeps up the neutralise on second son.

Zelda's right - without Emiko, they, Anya especially would be in a lot more trouble right now. Time to repay the favour, RX-0 moves to Amaterasu, removes it's own cable to plug into Emiko's Eva.

The RX-0 shold be good for a few rounds of power.

It took a moment for Emiko to realise that all the noise was her screaming, for what felt like a very long time she couldn't tell what that noise was. She never thought about what having every bone in your leg might feel like but she has a good idea now.

Everything started to fall apart for an instant, the Eva rocked, her vision was swimming. She staggers back and away from the Angel in front of her, not even thinking about its follow up attack. Her pallet rifle comes up and she fires, but as she steps back the left leg gives out with an earth-shattering crunch and shriek of twisting metal and the shot goes well wide of the target.

Serena briefly gestalts again with the tactical situation, then snaps out a brief "Shitballs.", then snaps her fingers at Angela Yuni. "Angela, just like Chris, I know we're all new to each other, but I also know you are good at your job or you wouldn't be here, so, also, stay on your girl. She needs to be plugged in, because a battery dead EVA is just a dead EVA and a dead Pilot. She has a plug at her feet she could have plugged Amaterasu into. Your job is to keep track of the big picture and point these things out to them. Thank you, and everyone again, look forward to serious exercises when this is over and we've beat down Big Fugly hiding out in the English Channel. Thank you, Angela."

Keep feeding the Markerlight Uplink to Anya through the switch, and be ready for it to immediately switch to GAZONESON once GAZTWOSON is actually taking a dirtnap with Baby Godzilla.

Chris, start talking Emiko through the pain, shock, and consequences that are coming her way now that Knife Fugly has decided to pick on her. You are her lifeline and you're damn good at it, so tag in." 

Serena then directed her voice to the entire Command Bridge. "Support the pilots, people."

Serena then re-enables her headset, and patches herself into the Pilots' general frequency (sometimes known as the 'Command Frequency'). "Emiko, focus on stabbing that fucking asshole who just fucked up your leg. You will feel better as you start stabbing it. Zelda, keep doing you, and we've focused the Markerlight and the Turret Array on GAZTWOSON. Make good use of them. Anya, Markerlight on GAZTWOSON is still going to you for when you get back around to shooting, and for fuck's sake, pick up the plug at Amaterasu's feet and plug in. I have full faith in you three to beat these assholes like taiko drums. Now show me some serious asskicking. I want nerd rage and break attacks! Silver, Clear."

Serena sends a message to Doctor Alice Mac that Evangelion Amaterasu (Pilot Emiko Junsuina) has suffered critical damage and will be needing a check-up for potential feedback issues for Emiko once combat has ceased and the Pilots have been recovered. Serena then gives all her attention to the current moments of fight going on through her consoles and displays and over her headset and through the speakers.

The battery on Amaterasu was about to fail, almost all juice drained from it. With some luck, or perhaps good planning, Zelda is able to force the Second Son to react to her attack, giving Anya enough time to remove her power cable and plug it into Emiko, reviving the almost dead mecha.

As soon as she unplugs herself the warning begin flashing in Anya's entry plug, and Angela's voice is quickly heard.

"Anya, ensure you plug yourself in ASAP. Use the cord Emiko pulled across."

The weight of combat finally catches up to Emiko as the Second Son's savagery finally lands a hit as she retreats, carving deep into the leg of the mecha. Warnings flash up on Emiko's HUD, along with Chris Lowes and Serena's screens. Even before the strike actually makes contact Lowes knows it's coming and tries his best to dampen the pain, increasing the feedback suppression as much as possible without causing Emiko to lose any more Synch. He is speaking firmly to his pilot, attempting to reassure her, but those words do not reach the pilot's ears.

 

When Emiko gets control and goes to move back once more, her leg gives way with the sound of shattering. This time she does hear Chris's words. "Get your guard up! Protect yourself now! Second Son is pressing." He is right, the Second Son is pushing once more. The sign of weakness is enough to draw him inThis is the attack of oppotunity, with all of his body weight you watch as the Second Son raises his remaining arm and attempt to pierce the body of Amaterasu with his weapon.

 

Throughout all of this the bombardment from the turrets continue to rain down on Second Son, new wounds continue to open up all across its' body as his AT field is gone, though it is not enough to stop him from hunting his prey.

 

 

Round 9

The Second Son

With all attention on the Second Son the other Entity is able to unleash a quick array of beams at Anya, though once more Emiko is able to raise up a barrier to protect her team mate. This action is enough to stop the attack, through drains all of Emiko's AT power, leaving her vulnerable.

"Emiko, you need to pull back, do not rush this. Pull back and wait for a safe moment, allow Anya and Zelda to take Second's attention."

It is once again Chris's voice reaching your ears, what he says seems logical. But that doesn't always result in the best outcome.

 

The Second Son is clearly eyeing up Emiko as she blocks the attack from the First Son, this Entity want's to destroy and devour, why the fascination on Emiko is not clear. However, with two Mechas in his face means he is not easily approaching his target.

 

With a silent scream the Second Son strikes out with a torrent of wild strikes against Anya, a barrage of brutal and violet strikes. If he can't move around the blockages he will smash through them.

@Neopopulas - In your post you stated deflection 5, but you actually had 1 ATP due to barrier being used last turn. So your deflection is 1.

Amaterasu - Now running on city power, having received RX-0's power. @Neopopulas, as you are now fatigued, you take -10 on all tests.

RX-0 - You have a total of 4 rounds of power due to the Photosynthetic mutation, meaning you can act on round 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Half action - Attacks Anya with a normal attack, roll a 29 to hit (+10 for half range), 2 DoS. Hit location 92 (left leg). Damage is 7 energy, pen 3, breach is 8. @Neopopulas You use your reaction to barrier, this uses 4 ATP (giving 8 deflection), leaving you with 0 ATP for your next actions and thus no deflection.

 

Second son (1 Reroll used)

  • Anya Neutralizing 5

Free action - Makes an attack against Amaterasu as she moves away. Rolled a 26 (-30 WS [-20 off hand, -10 small scale target]), hit location 62 (body). Total damage is 15, breach is 3 (but you AT field is 1, due to reaction), pen is 3. I believe this causes critical damage, though only 1 point. However, because you already have 5 points, you look at the '6 points' on the impact body table. As the damage is cumulative.

Full action - Full out attack on RX - 0 (+0 bonus+20 WS [all out attack]

, he cannot dodge or parry this round), rolled 12, 3 DoS. Hit location is 21 (Left arm). Damage is 8 impact, pen 3, breach 4.

"You have to take the damage, you have to take the damage.." Emiko isn't even aware she's saying it out loud. Too much is happening, too many people are talking to her, yelling.. her leg is indescribable, everything is moving too fast, she's off balance and feels like she can barely move. Despite all that she still manages to get the field up between Anya and the First Son's attacks, and it leaves an opening for the Second Son.

She knew it would, it was hunting her like an animal and it wouldn't be distracted. She was all-but on one knee even before the Second Son hits her and suddenly she can't breath - which is a curious feeling when your lungs are already full of fluid. Something in the Eva's chest ruptures, she can feel it like its her on flesh and blood, she can't breath, her vision is swimming, everything is noise and chaos and its all she can do to keep herself as upright as she is.

It turns out Fly does indeed shot at those next to his brother, but the attack appear less devastating, not that it change the situation, Amaterasu is a wreck, good enough to provide shielding, or act as decoy.

Zelda know that the path of the Eva's pilot lead to the graveyard, she hasnt spent enough time with the other pilots to care about them and knowing that they are foreign spies make it easier to see them as expendable, If Emiko die another pilot, another agent, will take her place, the mission will continue and it wont take long to forget her.

But if Amaterasu go offline...she doesnt really want to think about it, Fly will flatten London with his blasts, turning the capital in a parking lot.

She wait for an opening then swing her knife, the chainsaw cut through the enemy flesh in a satisfying hit "stop neutralizing him Anya, keep high your deflection.... we'll lose turret support.... but he wont hack you to pieces"

Ok, now Amaterasu is plugged back in, best plug RX-0 back in as suggested.

Before she can think about doing that she tries to sidestep the viscous strikes coming her way ... there are so many swipes and strikes but she just about manages to avoid getting caught by them.

Emiko is in a bad way, got to cover her for a while - get in second sons way. Anya stops neuralising second son and puts her AT back into her shields.

She plugs in with the cable on the ground next to her Eva just to be safe, and then draws the prog knife ready to swipe at the creature.

Serena briefly gestalts again with the tactical situation, then snaps out a brief "Damnall, if only I had more resources right now to support my troops.". Serena smiles tightly as she stares in her primary (and largest) screen.

Serena then comes out of her mildly-meditative state, checks to make sure her headset is muted, then speaks to the people on the Command Bridge. "Chris, keep up the good work with Emiko and Amaterasu. Ian, so far so good with Zelda, although feel free to update her more actively if you see something pertinent to her, and Angela, good staying on the ball with Anya and R-X-Zero." Serena turns to Fergus Lowes and Chris Kumar. "Kumar, Fergus, you two have time to really analyze the battle in the middle of it, either of you catching anything I'm missing in the way of maneuvers, tactics, or overall strategies? The lack of training as an overall team and prior combat preparation is biting us in the ass, but we can deal with that once this round of combat is over. You fight with the forces you have, not the forces you want."

Serena turns to Director Harriet Longshore. "Harriet, just in case, make sure your people are warmed up to pile in on this fun, because we're about two bad breaks from having a total clusterfuck, at which time it will be the Class As and Bs alongside whichever Class Cs are still standing in a barroom brawl. Thank your people ahead of time, and Yes, I know what I may be asking."

Serena unmuted her headset and resumed watching her monitors and gestalting the tactical situation.

The heavy damage to Amaterasu’s chest throws up a variety of alarms, there is little that can be done however. Chris Lowes spends the next twenty seconds or so rediverting power, closing of damaged areas, and in general attempting to limit the damage as much as possible. During this whole time be continues to speak to Emiko while also altering the pressure within her entry plug, in a hope to help her recover.

 

Back on the control bridge, Chris Kumar ensures none of his communication lines are open before turning to Serena and speaking. “Well, hindsight is 20-20. But I would have focused on one from the start, made it a 1 vs 3. I would have shifted focus to the core the moment the enemy was showing weakness. Though all this is easier said than done.” Once he is done he returns to his screen and runs through a few more things with Fergus.

 

The question to Harriet is responded with a nod, “we have a few units on standby, though they will be of little use in the Class-C fail. Sending them out now I think we risk blue on blue more than anything.” It is clear she is against the idea of sending out the Class A or B currently.

 

On the screen the bridge crew watch as Zelda pushes into the Second Son just before Anya releases the neutralize, her blade is drawn and ready. The Entity turns on its heels to meet her head on and attempts to hold her back, though Unit – 17’s force is too much. Easily breaking through the guard the knife plunges deep into the creature, with all its strength the mecha rips the knife free and plunges it in again, and again and again.

 

There is almost ten seconds of carnage as unit-17 tears the body away from the core, the blade itself ripping into the limbs of the enemy as well. In a matter of moments there is little left other than a floating red Core, the reflection of Unit-17 staring back at herself.

 

The sphere crashes into the ground flattening the building under it. Ian Salway’s voice can be heard feeding to all pilots “do not allow it to flee, ensure the core is destroyed now!” For now the Core remains on the ground, though you all know through watching previous combat, AT powers can still be used by the Core. A barrage of turret fire strikes into the Core, causing faint cracks to appear across the surface, though not enough to kill the creature.

 

With all the possible damage done, Anya releases her neutralize and focuses on her defense.

The Second Son

With no body, no weapon, and no real defenses the Second Son is vulnerable.

 

The First Son witnesses it all unfold, the sudden destruction of its brother and the shift in the fight. Its' attention turns to the south, with the use of its AT it is able to launch itself up into the air and across the ruins of London, moving far faster than it usually dones.

 

"Move up to First Son and grab him, do not allow him to move further."

 

The voice belongs to Angela, and her advise seems sound. Though it appears that closing the distance might be an impossibility to you all, your fastest Mecha is all but incapacitated.

Operations Director Assets: Power 2 Firefly VTOL (Markerlight--Single EVA--and Remote MAGI Uplink) and Power 1 Turret Bank (1d10+1 Impact Damage; 10 dam From Base of Operations Range)

Serena smiles at the tactical situation, then speaks before "Say hello to my team, motherfucker.". Serena then starts snapping orders as she turns her headset back on.

She tunes to the flight control channels of her VTOLs. "Firefly Flight, Silver, Ascend to Angels Four-Zero and Switch Markerlight Target to GAZONESON until ordered otherwise or forced to evade. Execute, Silver Clear." Serena than switches over to the Turret Control channel on her headset. "Turret control, continue with rapid continuous fire on GAZTWOSON until that Core is destroyed, once and only once the Core is destroyed, switch to GAZONESON, Silver Clear."

Serena then mutes her headset and speaks to the people on the Command Bridge. "Chris, support Emiko and Amaterasu as they finish off GAZTWOSON. They're least-mobile, and they need some recovery, so neutralizing the vulnerable Core and then killing it in coordination with the Turret Array is a good task for Emiko right this minute as she gets her equilibrium back. Ian, get Zelda and Unit-Seventeen hauling ass in pursuit of GAZONESON, coordinate with Angela to keep the pressure on the abomination against Cthulhu and so it stays AT-neutralized and hounded. Angela, coordinate with Ian to get Anya and R-X-Zero hauling ass in pursuit of GAZONESON, again, keep pressure on the abomination against Cthulhu and so it stays AT-neutralized and hounded, plus accept the Marklight to Anya from the Firefly VTOLs. Let's kill us both of these unwelcome visitors, people."

Serena Silver then switches to the Pilots' Channel, the "Command Channel". "Anya, Zelda, your job on the Second Son is complete, let the Turret Array and Emiko handle the clean-up on the Core, she can handle that right now. You two snap south to pursue, neutralize, and kill Gazardiel First Son as expeditiously as possible. Those are your orders, as we cannot afford to have an Entity moving around loose in vicinity of London.

Emiko, focus and neutralize the Core in front of you. You can shoot it, stab it, or just neutralize it  and let the Turret Array do the work. But focus and neutralize it first.

Questions?" Serena watches her screen, her indecision of a moment before replaced with a drive to kill in order to win.

Emiko was struggling to focus, that much was obvious but she was getting orders. Orders are good, she can focus on orders, she can follow orders..

When her vision comes swimming back she realises she is staring at the ground, the massive hands of the Eva cutting huge furrows into the streets. She doesn't even quite remember getting her orders, but she knows what they are.

She just has to attack the core, but she can't get there, she knows the leg won't hold her properly and it still feels like she has a vice around her chest. She struggles to take a breath to calm herself and engages the wing loadout, the progressive knife pops free with a hiss and drops from the storage bay. Mid-air if freezes, stuck in place with her A.T field. She takes another strained breath and lifts a hand that had been buried in what used to be a building and makes a flicking motion towards what was left of the Angel.

Finally Stabby is defeated and theres something poetic about it, the battle begun with him almost beheading Unit-17, Zelda returned the favor and now finished him with a knife. Where's her Stabbed the Stabby achievement??

The core is not her priority, Emiko is on it....with yet another magic trick, truly beyond her comprehension .

Zelda hear the orders and look at the remaining entity, she doesnt like the idea to chase it, having had her fair share of close calls, unfortunately she cant come up with a better plan and blatantly ignoring the orders is too much.

She decide to give it a try, mostly for appearance, if the entity still manage to flee nobody will be able to blame her. She charge and swing her knife, but narrowly miss, deep in her heart she hope the monster will just run away and not turn to fight

She still has the prog knife drawn so decides to charge at the creature and use the momentum to slash at it. As she rushes toward first son, she decides to go for one well placed strike and it pays off, connecting with the flying creature.
