And the food onboard was too good - it would spoil her in the long term. Here she would sample the local fare, and those who didn't get food poisoning from time to time weren't truly living, right? But the job takes priority. Ilya inspects every room in the small building, testing the solidity of the doors, windows, blinds... even the walls. Once she's reasonably certain the roof will hold, she goes back outside to teleport on top of the building. There she looks at avenues of approach, cover, ... The idea is simple: how defendable is the place if one day an army of skeletons invades or, worse, the population turns against them? (Rebellions lead to so much paperwork.) Not now, of course, with the warship hovering, but who knows... If the others don't mind, she lets them try to get more info on the beast. Focussing on the task at hand, she gets to work gathering information from the populace, getting the strangest feeling that the Gods are not on her side. As is usual she gets the distinct impression that people offer up what they know either out of respect for her office or just to get away from her. A few tend to cross the street when they see her coming. She could understand the sentiment.. better safe than sorry when you see someone with cold blue eyes decked out in full battle armor, striding towards you in a no-nonsense fashion. She wondered whether the people who nodded or bowed did so out of gratitude for the services she provided, or out of a kind of low grade dread. She could understand either sentiment, or when they were alloyed. For a long time she'd pondered whether she should present a more gentle disposition, but had decided against it. She wanted the bad guys to see that there was precisely zero give in her. It's a massive creature shrouded in darkness with many arms and an enormous mouth in the middle. It's strong enough to rip a skimmer in half and can eat a cow whole. Lowering his chin and meeting her eyes, “May you always be bathed in light. Thank you for your generous blessing.” He had a stern expression hidden beneath his mask. As he gave his skimmer a once over adjusting a strap here, and securing his saddle bags and holsters to the vehicle. He leaned watching the girls conversate and contemplated how his own efforts looking in to the monster had led down many contradictory paths that could not as far as he could tell hold any water whatsoever. He pulled a small leather pouch from his belt opening it with a snap and retrieved a hand rolled cigarette. Lowering his mask he ran the tip of the cigarette along his lips before letting it rest in the corner of his mouth and lighting it. “Hrrmmph, I have been described as craggy.” Sam gives Lucienne a subtle wink. "Can you be more specific about the special ammunition, Marshall Thorne?" she asks. Then, "And you, Marshall Dutton, what useful elements do you bring to a combat of this nature?" She shrugs.. "If I am to fashion myself into this things walking nightmare, I really need to know what species this thing is though and how to kill it. Bug hunting's not really my study focus... more fighting mages. So nature lovers, dungeoneers.. shout it out." As she says this, she wonders whether it could replace a hanging scaffold, or sit nearby, if the thing is intelligent and could be bargained with. She almost smirks as the notion of it providing garbage disposal services comes to mind, though it would put the jailhouse grave diggers out of a job. He grabbed the astrolabe around his neck before tucking it behind his breastplate and shirt where it warmly rested against his skin. “With me we will always walk the true path and be blessed and bathed in the light. That ain’t nothin.” Sam took out his rifle the thirty thirty lever action was bulkier than expected the barrel and all the metallic surfaces etched with enchantments and liturgy, constellations carved into the gun with flakes of gemstone and silver denoting stars. A beaded and knotted string wrapped around the barrel with three feathers and a silver coin embossed with a skull tying the string around the barrel. A soft worn leather sling hangs from the rifle. The wood furniture of the bulky rifle is dark and shiny the stock carved into a small village of intricate buildings with engraved columns. The carving going deep recessed within the dark and well oiled wood. There are singe marks all over the carvings and a light shines from within them. Sam sights down his barrel and checks the action before setting it on his skimmer and letting his gloved hand down onto the stock where he shakes his index finger tapping the wood. A small ember spirit, a wisp of living fire no bigger than a marble peeks out releasing a plume of smoke and glowing brightly before a buzzing sound emits from the spirit and it comes on to Sam’s hand tentatively. He pulls his tobacco pouch out and puts a small offering of the dried leaf into his palm where the sprite greedily burns it up. He then taps his finger to the stock again and the flame jumps from his hand back into its home in the rifle. He then buckled on his pauldrons. They were always the last thing he put on. The large skull shaped armor pieces meant more for intimidation than practicality always reminded him of the past. That was the point though wasn’t it. To remind people what he was. What he used to be. Rilling his shoulders and then his neck he replied to Lucienne again, “I guess I do a bit of everything. She appeared to give her tacit approval of the true path. Luce, still pondering the nature of the thing they were about to face, was content to let the back of her head work through what she knew of this creature, in the knowledge that once she slept on it, slept on the information, not slept on the creature, that her sleeping mind would ping her awake in the hour before dawn with the answer.
