Or reread the IC thread. The slavers freed us to fight, and it is implied they free us entirely. The invaders are also slavers, but more aggressive types. Our owners aren't so much slavers, as slave holders, so although it is still horrible, they aren't directly to blame for our plight.

Probably we are directly to blame, or the empire, but still.

I'd join the captain on the Drow ship... after jumping overboard and swimming, then defeat the drow leaders and take their ship !!!

Show the fuzzy barbarians the captain drow's severed head to show it was all over.

Then Ms. Blueblood will be the pirate Captain of the sleek drow ship... a nice prize in her mind.

Also need to secure the Ballistae... *Craack*s her whip, so who's with Ms Blueblood ?!?

I don't mind joining in. I wish this was not a ship game. I'm eager to play this concept in your game. I wanted this to be different. But since it's plotless, I guess there's room for everything. Why not encompass the seas as well? Count me in. Also, I'm always armed ;)

I’m very interested in this game. Particularly because I like the idea of it being plotless.
I’ve not played 5e yet. In truth, save a few games in Pathfinder, I’ve not played since 2e was new. And yes, I realize that reveals my advanced years.

I have an idea for a halfling rogue/sorcerer, although he might need an alternative reason for being on the ship. Halflings don’t make good oarsmen. Maybe he’s the water boy. :)

If you still have slots available, I’ll start putting some things down on (digital) paper.

I mean, if being enslaved is fun. Fun for us, perhaps, horrible for the characters. :)

The Empire consideres slavery to be much preferable to imprisonment. As a slave, you retain your freedom - so to speak, you're not locked in a dungeon - sentences are usually shorter, and slave owners are obligated to take care of their slaves. If you're released in worse condition (age notwithstanding), you can actually sue the slaveholder.

And in a dungeon, there are certain risks - along the lines of:

Oi, Raznic - when did we last feed the guy in cell 11?

I dunno, why? Pretty recent, I guess?

Well, no point anymore. And send down a clean-up crew, will ya.

Whereas slaves are entitled to three meals a day, clothing and a decent bed in safe, dry conditions.

Let us know how you get on?

Well, I'm working on it. And I will, yea.

Interesting start. Do you try to gain your freedom by fighting your slaveholders or by fighting for your slaveholders?

Oh. Um. I hadn't thought of that. Anyone thinking 'oh, I'd much rather be a slave to the drow than to these relatively reasonable river guys' simply didn't occur to me.

Maybe ... consider whether that would occur to your characters. The drow do no have what you'd call an untarnished reputation. And they have none of the nice rules regarding slaves that the Empire does.

How about just jumping overboard ?

There are bad things in the water.

Yes. This.

Shackles and chains?

Krgh'âahn released you.

I would try and shove a slaveholder into the water with a shoulder charge.

Well - they might resent that. And they did just promise you freedom if you win. It'd be a shame to be the only slave who didn't get released ... wouldn't it? =D

Sidenote: I can't see colors. Not like you can. I was fine with the old site, where I could type in RED and that shit would work. Here, I need to recognise the color I used last among the palette - and I can't. So I might stop using colors for speech, because it's likely to get messed up.

The color palette, the main one at least, have names. They are called bold 1, bold 2, bold 3, strong 1, strong 2... you get the picture. They are not called by their colors because they change along with the theme you use. It's meant to keep contrast against the background. Next time, don't bother for a specific color. Just choose one you like and remember the name. Oh yeah. The names only show on a PC. I just tried on phone and they didn't work.

But to help you with at least two colors using default site theme, red is at (1, 2) while dark red is at (4, 4).

Ha! Indeed. Lucky, it wouldn't be my first choice. And remember Aria had a tragic story. She's full of anger, resentment and bitterness from the betrayal. But I guess a clean name means she can go home sooner than expected, meaning she can get revenge and save the woods.

Okay, sorry if any of this has been asked already, but I am having a hell of a time scanning the comments and can’t seem to search all the pages of this thread at once, soooo…

A…what is the technology level of the Empire? Are there at least early-renascence era firearms? (Flintlocks)
B…is there a nation or province that comes with an East Asian aesthetic, specifically Feudal Japan? The campaign name “Ronin” kinda sparked a bunch of ideas instantly by the linguistic/cultural/historical associations.
C…The Empire’s Deadman corps/legion…is there a specific kinda of undead (IE: zombies, skeletons, ghouls, vampires, mummies, etc) that the dead get reanimated/“recruited” as? Or does it vary, and if so, is there a rhyme and reason behind it (like, rank and file soldiers get raised as the more mindless zombie/skeletons, while officers/specialists might get brought back as Vampires/Mummies? Is there a societal class/caste reasoning behind it, like nobles getting brought back as Vampires while the levied peasant gets to moan out “braaaaaiiinnnns” between attacks? Etc)

EDIT: Also, might I suggest [LINK REMOVED] for use as a reference doc? It’s got all official content (and some 3rd party stuff you can make available by changing the settings. Use it all the time when I am GMing in person at my local gaming store, saves me a ton of trouble in dragging my entire physical 5E library there and back again multiple times a week.
