Crossrealms Arena: Stage One

Recommended Posts

This is stage one for the Crossrealms Arena. It will host one encounter at a time, and will remain open after the match is over for the next encounter. If multiple people want to use the Arena at the same time and a Stage isn't available, just make an additional Stage thread.

Archon 2-6: Ancient Claws

Archon 2-6 finds himself in the Arena, the first challenger of the new era. As described the Arena is circular, and wide enough it would take him a fair bit of time to sprint from one side to the other. His opponent is a feathered, bipedal reptile about the size of a large wolf or dog, and is about 50ft in front of him. It screeches and flares out its claws at the sight of him.

OOC: Sorry for the delay.

The theropod ignores the danger of the spear and charges in, talons and claws bared. The animal is quick and makes several attacks from its limbs before going in for a bite.

So, if i’m right on the rules, I should get a readied action from the charge, and an AO as the creature moves through my threatened area (I’ve got reach, does it?)

I’m less clear on which of those attacks come first, or if the double damage applies to one or both attacks. What do you think?

OOC: So while the rules didn't and still don't spell it out, the 2 turns worth of actions to prepare were always fluffed as happening in a ready room before being teleported into the arena, and the player didn't know what he was fighting until their character was teleported. But anyway, I'm going to go with this rpg.stackexchange post, you deal double damage with the readied action attack, and then a separate, normal damage AoO as normal for an opponent leaving your threatened area. Also, no, it doesn't have reach, it is medium sized. I also fixed why the bite attack didn't work, fixed it but the attack missed anyway.

Archon 2-6: Ancient Claws

Reflex Save

The dinosaur is taken surprise by the sudden wave of fire and takes the full brunt of the attack. The creature closes in on Archon 2-6 with a 5' step and again attacks with his maw and other sharp appendages.

Deinonychus Initiative 15: attacking Archon 2-6s, damage taken 4

OOC: Yeah, that's right. Sorry, I was typing that up while talking on the phone. I also just realized one of those claw attacks was a natural 20, are living constructs vulnerable to critical hits?

Reflex Save

The reptile isn't taken by surprise the second time, and manages to protect itself somewhat before once again closing on the construct. Despite the barrage of attacks, it only manages to land one of them.

Talon and Claw are paired natural attacks with the same description in the rules. In this case, the talon is the big raptor claw on the feet, and the claw x2 is the hands. So this creature's attack pattern is a slashing kick, a couple swipes with its claws, and then a bite.

Crit Threat/Dmg

Archon 2-6 lands a massive blow on the burnt dinosaur and the dinosaur reacts by withdrawing to 100ft away from Archon.
