Billie held up the drink, eyeing it suspiciously, but the elf was actually drinking it, so it likely wasn't poison, and really, she'd likely had worse.  Raising the glass, she tossed it back, and it burned away any and everything in its path.  She could think of more than one occasion that it would be a good chaser.  She could feel her eyes water a little as the acrid drink cleared out her sinuses.

"Woo!" Came the exclamation after the drink, then she settled down to a mead.  At this rate she'd need some more physical activity to burn off the juice.  "Well that's just a slice of cherry pie.  Do the chains tend to be in a similar place in each?  The only tactic seems to be to go after the toughest one you can find and hope the rest just die in the aftermath.Waiving down Aria, she requested a few snacks, she was on the edge of her seat.  Actually having seen the Archon destroy the Corruptor.  Eins used to have great stories too, but she didn't believe half of them.

"Soo... you know the whereabouts of Thaly's spear?  Might be handy, or something of the like surely would.  That reminds me, what's the prize for winning these games that are coming up?  I'm hoping to compete."

"Of course,"

Mags felt the sudden pressure, but he did not fear. This being had saved his life--more than once--and given him purpose and direction. Mags had been a frightened child when he'd offered his oath of service. There was a time in his youth when he'd felt taken advantage: harboring resentment toward a god who would hold a frightened young child to an oath of lifelong consequence. But the storms of youth had passed, leaving greater clarity in their wake: Mags had come to realize he'd received much more than he'd given in this divine bargain. If Nezeris had come to end his life--right now, in this inn--Mags would still have received nearly a decade of years to enjoy mortality, having given Nezeris very little in return.

The pressure faded and Nezeris spoke.

Mags listened with rapt attention, committing the god's words to memory, absorbing the explicit meaning of the words while remaining open to hidden meanings. He was struck by the imagery: danger, a grave, shifting winds, on the horizon, a great turmoil brewing, to engulf the unprepared. And then the admonition: prepare yourself. He knew he was missing something. Nezeris' words, at face value, where a statement of what he already knew. And he doubted the messenger god would manifest simply to state the obvious.

Mags knew the Gods operated within bounds. By his own admission, Nezeris shouldn't be here. His intervention was limited. Perhaps he could not directly say what he needed to say. Mags wanted to ask for clarification but held off.

Think, dammit, think!

Mags had been preparing for this future most of his life. From childhood, his days had been filled with training, drills, and study. And yet, Nezeris was admonishing him to be vigilant and prepare for the trails ahead. His best guess? Nezeris was speaking of something specific that Mags needed to do to prepare.

But he had no idea what that thing was.

He reached into his heart and spoke. The words that came sounded like the language in the ancient sagas of the gods. Somehow, it seemed fitting. "You, who have known me from childhood, know that I have used the life you gave to prepare for these dire times. And yet, I am lacking. Therefore, show me my unpreparedness."

  • Cunning ActionStarting at 2nd level, your quick thinking and agility allow you to move and act quickly. You can take a bonus action on each of your turns in combat. This action can be used only to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action. (Dash, Disengage, Hide, Mage Hand LegerdemainStarting at 3rd level, when you cast mage hand, you can make the spectral hand invisible, and you can perform the following additional tasks with it:

    >You can stow one object the hand is holding in a container worn or carried by another creature.
    >You can retrieve an object in a container worn or carried by another creature.
    >You can use thieves' tools to pick locks and disarm traps at range.

You can perform one of these tasks without being noticed by a creature if you succeed on a Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check contested by the creature's Wisdom (Perception) check.

In addition, you can use the bonus action granted by your Cunning Action to control the hand.
    )
  • Steady AimAs a bonus action, you give yourself advantage on your next attack roll on the current turn. You can use this bonus action only if you haven't moved during this turn, and after you use the bonus action, your speed is 0 until the end of the current turn.

Reactions

  • Silvery Barbs1st-level enchantment
Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when a creature you can see within 60 feet of yourself succeeds on an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw
    Range: 60 feet
    Components: V
    Duration: Instantaneous

You magically distract the triggering creature and turn its momentary uncertainty into encouragement for another creature. The triggering creature must reroll the d20 and use the lower roll.

You can then choose a different creature you can see within range (you can choose yourself). The chosen creature has advantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw it makes within 1 minute. A creature can be empowered by only one use of this spell at a time.
  • Opportunity Attack (with additional Sneak Attack)

Other/Free Actions

  • Oracle's InsightThe gods give you flashes of insight that help you bring your efforts to fruition. When you make an ability check, you can roll a d10 and add the number rolled to the check. You can wait until after you roll the d20 before deciding to add the d10, but you must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Spell Save DC: 12 | Spell Attack Mod: +4

Cantrips Booming BladeEvocation cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (5-foot radius)
Components: S, M (a melee weapon worth at least 1 sp)
Duration: 1 round

You brandish the weapon used in the spell's casting and make a melee attack with it against one creature within 5 feet of you. On a hit, the target suffers the weapon attack's normal effects and then becomes sheathed in booming energy until the start of your next turn. If the target willingly moves 5 feet or more before then, the target takes 1d8 thunder damage, and the spell ends.

This spell's damage increases when you reach certain levels. At 5th level, the melee attack deals an extra 1d8 thunder damage to the target on a hit, and the damage the target takes for moving increases to 2d8. Both damage rolls increase by 1d8 at 11th level (2d8 and 3d8) and again at 17th level (3d8 and 4d8).
 | Mage HandConjuration cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 minute

A spectral, floating hand appears at a point you choose within range. The hand lasts for the duration or until you dismiss it as an action. The hand vanishes if it is ever more than 30 feet away from you or if you cast this spell again.

You can use your action to control the hand. You can use the hand to manipulate an object, open an unlocked door or container, stow or retrieve an item from an open container, or pour the contents out of a vial. You can move the hand up to 30 feet each time you use it.

The hand can't attack, activate magic items, or carry more than 10 pounds.
 | MessageTransmutation cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a short piece of copper wire)
Duration: 1 round

You point your finger toward a creature within range and whisper a message. The target (and only the target) hears the message and can reply in a whisper that only you can hear.

You can cast this spell through solid objects if you are familiar with the target and know it is beyond the barrier. Magical silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood blocks the spell. The spell doesn't have to follow a straight line and can travel freely around corners or through openings.
 | Minor IllusionIllusion cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: S, M (a bit of fleece)
Duration: 1 minute

You create a sound or an image of an object within range that lasts for the duration. The illusion also ends if you dismiss it as an action or cast this spell again.

If you create a sound, its volume can range from a whisper to a scream. It can be your voice, someone else's voice, a lion's roar, a beating of drums, or any other sound you choose. The sound continues unabated throughout the duration, or you can make discrete sounds at different times before the spell ends.

If you create an image of an object—such as a chair, muddy footprints, or a small chest—it must be no larger than a 5-foot cube. The image can't create sound, light, smell, or any other sensory effect. Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it.

If a creature uses its action to examine the sound or image, the creature can determine that it is an illusion with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC. If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the illusion becomes faint to the creature.
| PrestidigitationTransmutation cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 10 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Up to 1 hour

This spell is a minor magical trick that novice spellcasters use for practice. You create one of the following magical effects within range:

>You create an instantaneous, harmless sensory effect, such as a shower of sparks, a puff of wind, faint musical notes, or an odd odor.
>You instantaneously light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.
>You instantaneously clean or soil an object no larger than 1 cubic foot.
>You chill, warm, or flavor up to 1 cubic foot of nonliving material for 1 hour.
>You make a color, a small mark, or a symbol appear on an object or a surface for 1 hour.
>You create a nonmagical trinket or an illusory image that can fit in your hand and that lasts until the end of your next turn.

If you cast this spell multiple times, you can have up to three of its non-instantaneous effects active at a time, and you can dismiss such an effect as an action.

Spells Disguise Self1st-level illusion
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 hour

You make yourself—including your clothing, armor, weapons, and other belongings on your person—look different until the spell ends or until you use your action to dismiss it. You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller and can appear thin, fat, or in between. You can't change your body type, so you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs. Otherwise, the extent of the illusion is up to you.

The changes wrought by this spell fail to hold up to physical inspection. For example, if you use this spell to add a hat to your outfit, objects pass through the hat, and anyone who touches it would feel nothing or would feel your head and hair. If you use this spell to appear thinner than you are, the hand of someone who reaches out to touch you would bump into you while it was seemingly still in midair.

To discern that you are disguised, a creature can use its action to inspect your appearance and must succeed on an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC.
| Find FamiliarCasting Time: 1 hour
Range: 10 feet
Components: V, S, M (10 gp worth of charcoal, incense, and herbs that must be consumed by fire in a brass brazier)
Duration: Instantaneous

You gain the service of a familiar, a spirit that takes an animal form you choose: bat, cat, crab, frog (toad), hawk, lizard, octopus, owl, poisonous snake, fish (quipper), rat, raven, sea horse, spider, or weasel. Appearing in an unoccupied space within range, the familiar has the statistics of the chosen form, though it is a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice) instead of a beast.

Additional animal form choices may be available at the DM's discretion.

Your familiar acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. In combat, it rolls its own initiative and acts on its own turn. A familiar can't attack, but it can take other actions as normal.

When the familiar drops to 0 hit points, it disappears, leaving behind no physical form. It reappears after you cast this spell again. As an action, you can temporarily dismiss the familiar to a pocket dimension. Alternatively, you can dismiss it forever. As an action while it is temporarily dismissed, you can cause it to reappear in any unoccupied space within 30 feet of you. Whenever the familiar drops to 0 hit points or disappears into the pocket dimension, it leaves behind in its space anything it was wearing or carrying.

While your familiar is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically. Additionally, as an action, you can see through your familiar's eyes and hear what it hears until the start of your next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses that the familiar has. During this time, you are deaf and blind with regard to your own senses.

You can't have more than one familiar at a time. If you cast this spell while you already have a familiar, you instead cause it to adopt a new form. Choose one of the forms from the above list. Your familiar transforms into the chosen creature.

Finally, when you cast a spell with a range of touch, your familiar can deliver the spell as if it had cast the spell. Your familiar must be within 100 feet of you, and it must use its reaction to deliver the spell when you cast it. If the spell requires an attack roll, you use your attack modifier for the roll.
| Mage Armor1st-level abjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (a piece of cured leather)
Duration: 8 hours

You touch a willing creature who isn't wearing armor, and a protective magical force surrounds it until the spell ends. The target's base AC becomes 13 + its Dexterity modifier. The spell ends if the target dons armor or if you dismiss the spell as an action.
 |
Silvery Barbs1st-level enchantment

Rituals Augury2nd-level divination (ritual)
Casting Time: 1 minute
Range: Self
Components: V, S, M (specially marked sticks, bones, or similar tokens worth at least 25 gp)
Duration: Instantaneous

By casting gem-inlaid sticks, rolling dragon bones, laying out ornate cards, or employing some other divining tool, you receive an omen from an otherworldly entity about the results of a specific course of action that you plan to take within the next 30 minutes. The DM chooses from the following possible omens:

>Weal, for good results
>Woe, for bad results
>Weal and woe, for both good and bad results
>Nothing, for results that aren't especially good or bad

The spell doesn't take into account any possible circumstances that might change the outcome, such as the casting of additional spells or the loss or gain of a companion.

If you cast the spell two or more times before completing your next long rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each casting after the first that you get a random reading. The DM makes this roll in secret.

  🎵Theme🎵

PART 1:
A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

Nezeris listened to Mags' plea with a measured silence, his piercing gaze fixed on the mortal. Finally, after a long moment of contemplation, the god spoke.

"Your dedication and preparation have not gone unnoticed, Mags," Nezeris began. "But there is always more that can be done, more that can be learned, more skills that can be honed. The path ahead is fraught with danger, and the stakes are higher than you can imagine. The fate of the mortal realm rests on the actions of a few, and you are among them."

Nezeris paused, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You must seek out the knowledge and skills that will allow you to face the trials ahead. Seek out the wisdom of the sages, the strength of the warriors, and the magic of the Archmages. Train tirelessly, learn everything you can, and never be complacent. Your fate is in your hands, but you will not face it alone."

The god's words hung in the air, heavy with import. Mags knew that Nezeris was right. He had come far, but there was always more to learn, more to do. The path ahead was uncertain, but he would face it with courage and determination, guided by the words of the god who had given him purpose and direction. Yet, with all the words Nezeris wanted to say he held his tongue. To defy the fates and their laws was to tempt a beast he best knew not to quarrel with. He stepped close to Mags and spoke.

"What I cannot tell you I will show you. Clear your mind." Nezeris appeared before the oracle as a flash of lightning, and with a wave of his hand, he transported Mags' mind to a mountainside, the sky dark and foreboding.

As the oracle looked around, he saw that he was standing on a cliff overlooking a bottomless pit filled with glowing lava. The heat from the molten rock was almost unbearable as if Mags was there in the flesh. Suddenly, Mags heard a whispering voice coming from the depths of the pit. He leaned forward, straining to hear the voice, and as he did, another vision began to form in his mind.

In the vision, he saw a city bathed in the eerie light of a blood-red eclipse. The city was under attack by a horde of dark creatures, led by a powerful sorcerer who wielded an ancient artifact that glowed with an unholy light.

As the vision continued, Mags saw himself wandering through a dense jungle, searching for a hidden temple that housed the artifact. He battled fierce creatures along the way, including giant spiders and vicious snakes, but he pressed on, driven by a sense of purpose.

Finally, the oracle emerged from the jungle and found himself standing before a massive stone temple that towered above the treetops. The temple was ancient, and the stone was covered in moss and vines. The temple looked out of place in its environment as if it had been transported from its true location and was placed here.

The jungles reminded him of the jungles that resided near the southern dwarven city but the flora that surrounded the temple only grew in the Halaea region. As Mags tried to approach the temple he felt a pull behind him, something or someone was stopping him. Suddenly Mags was ripped backward, the temple and the jungle rushing past him.

"I cannot hold the vision much longer Mags, this is all I can show." Nezeris's voice rang in Mags ears.

As the vision began to fade and Mags felt himself being pulled away, his body tensed with resistance. It was as though he were being ripped away from something he desperately wanted to hold onto. The images in his mind grew hazy and the vibrant colors began to blur and fade, leaving him feeling disoriented and confused. As Mags fought to remain in the vision, Mags felt a sudden jolt and a sharp pain in his head. His breath caught in his throat and he gasped for air, feeling as though he was being yanked back into his own body.

"I must go now Mags, till we meet again," Nezeris said as he appeared before Mags. "You know where to find me." Mags said as he placed the wooden idol in Mags hands.

Slowly, the world around him came back into focus. He was back in the inn, sitting on the same bed as before, but everything felt different. The air around him felt colder, and the colors of the world seemed muted compared to the vivid imagery of the vision. Nezeris was gone and the only sign of him was the wooden idol Mags carried in his hands.

A slight breeze blew around Mags and then out the window as it shut closed on its own.

Urileth took a moment to savor the burn of the drink, feeling its warmth spread through her body. She chuckled at Billie's suspicious glance, knowing all too well the dangers of poison in her line of work.

"It's some strong stuff," she remarked, taking another swig of mead to wash away the still lingering aftertaste. "But it does the trick."

At Billie's question about the chains, Urileth leaned back in her seat, contemplating. "I've seen different configurations in my time, but there are often patterns to be found if you know where to look. As for the tactic, going after the toughest one is a risky move, but it can pay off if you have the skill and the strength to back it up."

As Aria brought over some snacks, Urileth munched on a few while listening to Billie's questions about Thaly's spear and the upcoming games.

"I'm afraid I don't know where the spear is, but I've heard a tale of someone who might know of its location. All gossip of course but that information will cost you. And as for the prize, the winner receives many prizes. Wealth, status, and most importantly an audience with the Admiral herself." Urileth said raising a single finger and wagging it.

Mags slumped into the bed, feeling the weight of the world--and the strengthening arm of Nezaris--on his shoulders. For a time, he sat. He breathed. He stared absent-mindedly at the idol, his mind reviewing the visitation and vision.

Voices in the hallway drew him from his reverie. He rose and moved to the little desk, withdrew his vision journal, pen, and ink, and began to write. He wrote for some time, recording first the details of the visitation, then the details of the vision, and finally, his initial impressions and speculations. Satisfied, he returned the journal and writing implements to his bag and turned his attention to the idol.

Billie readied herself and listened carefully, prepared to retain every tidbit told.  In truth, there was little that she couldn't have come up with herself.  Though the prize for the games was interesting in its own right, a meeting with the Admiral could be very auspicious... her mind drifted wondering what it would be like to fight the Admiral.  Maybe she could draw something up later, if they managed to find any paper and charcoal for her.  It was then she realized what Urileth had said.

"Cost me? Can you at least make it interesting." She raised a brow, having already provided mead, a drink and snacks for little more than giving them the opportunity to pretend they were important, the ashen haired mercenary was hesitant to say the least.

Mags headed downstairs to request the water and soap for his bath. Some time later, he sat in a tub of magically warmed soapy water, examining the strange compass. Within arm's reach on a chair next to the tub were all of his worldly possessions, piled strategically: weapons on top, bag beneath weapons, clothes beneath bag. A towel was draped over the other side of the tub.

He knew it would take an hour to fully examine the compass. He planned to soak in the tub for the entire hour. His skin would wrinkle, but he didn't care. He'd never taken such a long bath, and doubted he'd ever do so again, but this was a night of exceptions.

PART 1:
A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

Urileth regarded Billie with a knowing smile, understanding the mercenary's desire for a fair and interesting exchange. She respected Billie's resourcefulness and directness, realizing that the conversation could benefit from a bit of excitement.

"Fair enough, Wolf Pup," Urileth replied, leaning in slightly. "How about this? In exchange for the information you seek, I'll offer you a challenge. If you can defeat me in a friendly sparring match in the Crucible, I'll not only provide the information you're after, but I'll also owe you a favor to be claimed at a later time." Urileth pointed to the conjoined arena.

She paused, letting the proposition sink in. "Unless you think an old lady like me is too strong for you."

Urileth's eyes twinkled with a mixture of mischief and anticipation, eager to see if Billie would take up the challenge and embrace the opportunity to prove her mettle. The others around the table banged their fists in unison, starting up a rally. "Crucible! Crucible!"

Billie was half out of her seat leaning forward on her hands eagerly.  "You're on!" She knew she should have asked what the rules were, like weapons, fists, armor, no armor, but she also knew none of that mattered and she was going to say yes regardless.  What even was a crucible.  "You need armor to hold those fun bags in or you gonna tuck them in your belt?"

She signaled absently for whatshername, the server girl, to give a message to Mags. "Can you knock on his door in a bit and tell him I'm gone for a death match at the crucible." Billie whispered while grinning at the oracle's imagined reaction.  And then the imagining was gone, the ashen haired warrior was so absorbed in the chant that nothing else really mattered.

PART 1:
A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

She chuckled at Billie's remark about armor. "I'll be just fine without armor, thanks. I prefer freedom of movement. Besides, it'll be more interesting this way, don't you think? and my 'fun bags' won't be going anywhere." Urileth replied with a grin. "As for the rules, let's keep it simple and fair. Choose your weapon, no armor. Just our skills and raw power on display."

Aria, the server girl, had been observing the exchange between Urileth and Billie with wide eyes. When Billie signaled for her, she quickly approached their table, still slightly flustered. "Uh, sure, I can let Mags know," Aria stammered, her gaze shifting between the two of them. She quickly jotted down the message on a scrap of paper and promised to deliver it promptly.

With a nervous smile, Aria hurried off, her mind racing with thoughts of what kind of death match Billie was getting herself into. She hoped it was some kind of friendly competition and not an actual life-or-death situation. She soon made it to Mags quarters and knocked on the door with a heavy bucket of water and message in hand. "Mister Mags! It is Aria. I have your bath water and a message for you." She said as she waited at the door.

Urileth, now fully focused on the upcoming challenge, turned her attention back to Billie. "Well then, follow me. Wolf Pup." She said as she rose from her chair. The others followed as well bellowing and drinking as they walked. Tarad pulled up next to Billie and spoke. "Don't underestimate The old lady." There was a firmness in his voice as if he was looking out for the younger Billie.

Seamlessly connected to the Pillar. The Arena serves as a thrilling hub for combat, entertainment, and grand spectacles.

As you approach the Crucible, Billie notices its massive circular shape, encircled by towering stone walls that reach impressive heights. The walls are adorned with intricate reliefs depicting ancient heroes, mythical creatures, and epic battles. Entering through the grand archway, you find yourself in a spacious courtyard paved with smooth stone. Spectator stands rise in a semi-circular fashion, providing an excellent vantage point for the audience to witness the events within. The stands are divided into sections, with stairways and walkways allowing ease of access for the crowds.

In the center of the Arena, a circular combat pit awaits. It is a sunken area enclosed by sturdy stone walls, ensuring the safety of the audience while allowing them to feel immersed in the action. The floor of the pit is meticulously maintained, covered in fine sand that offers traction for combatants while reducing the risk of injuries. The arena is surrounded by various amenities and facilities. Refreshment stands offer a variety of snacks, drinks, and delicacies to satisfy the hunger and thirst of the spectators. Traders and merchants set up stalls, selling memorabilia, weaponry, and trinkets to commemorate the thrilling events.

Right now it is empty though, aside from Billie and Urileth the only other people were the rest of the Old Guard who had taken up seats and the stray patron who had heard the commotion and followed to see a show. "Are you ready?" Urileth asked. "Or do you need to stretch?" the old elf said, unbuckling her armor and doffing it. From her hip, she produced an elegant elven blade from its sheathe. Moving into a defensive pose she signaled for Billie to come. "On your go."

Billie would have enjoyed Mags' reaction. His eyes bulged as he read the note. Finished reading he opened his mouth struggling for words, "Wha... why... by the Horned One's bloody burning spear, what is that stupid girl thinking!"

He patted himself down, making sure he had everything he needed as he spoke to Aria. "I'll be back for my bath. Lock the door after you've filled the tub. Oh, and, which way to the crucible?"

The oracle took the stairs three at a time down to the ground floor, nimbly dodging patrons as he raced for the exit. He caught up the old warriors inside the Crucible. He fell in step behind them, breathing heavy, scanning for Billie though he couldn't see her.

Valyv was suddenly at his side. "Come to see your mistress die, ey boy?" He spoke in friendly dog owner tones, but his words were a barb directed at Billie, who was not present to receive them.

"Excuse me," he said, drawing the attention of one of the old warriors, "But could you tell me what Billie did to get herself challenged to a death match?"

The old timers were sitting down in the prime seats, shushing him.

Mags noticed the spectacle that had drawn their attention: an old warrior woman squaring off against Billie down in the pit. He felt something in the pit of his stomach, as if it was the locus of his apprehension.

"On your go."

Too late, dammit.

Mags slumped down onto the stone bench as if sucker-punched. The hand under his cloak drew a dagger and the hedge wizard softly spoke the arcane words of a simple cantrip. The magic carried his words to Billie's ear. "By Atlena's angels, Billie, why'd you go and get yourself challenged to a death match?! We need to stop the world from burning, remember?!"

Valyv was suddenly beside him, tongue lolling, tail wagging. Eyes on Billie, he absentmindedly reached out and scratched behind the mastiff's ear.

 |

Billie walked, no more like strut to the crucible, she wasn't completely carefree, but she knew half a battle was mental, so confidence was paramount.  Tarad's words did land though, but she knew this wouldn't be an easy fight.  You don't live as a warrior long as elves have to before they show age and not know a lot about fighting.  Urileth was a perfect challenge.

She put her hands behind her head, elbows out as she stood there in a relaxing stretch, with a smirk in response to the elven warrior's words.  Then Mags' voice came though... ~Yeah, I know, and we need to get stronger remember... here's how I do... now stop distracting me.~

Her eyes went black and she turned, sword still sheathed as her shadow rose behind Urileth, and with her hand behind her head she reached for her sword.
"GO!"

Before she had the words even full out, her echo made a swing for the back of the woman's head.

Mags really wanted to cast another message cantrip. Billie was being stupid. He wanted to tell her just how stupid she was being. But she was also fighting for her life, and he didn't dare distract her. His heart was racing, his first clenched tightly around the dagger hilt beneath his cloak.

Damn stupid girl!

Years of training kicked in. He took a deep centering breath. He relaxed his grip on the dagger hilt. He took stock of the situation. He'd never seen Billie in the future. It scared him to think she might die right now, right here. No, scared wasn't the right word, more like...

Mags looked down to Valyv. The light in the dog's eyes brought a memory to the oracle's mind. A vision from the previous year. A firelit ruin where the Red Banner, the book-wielding Shadow, and Dae battled monsters. And on a nearby hill bathed in moonlight, little white-hair Billie battled other children on a ruined street, a big black mastiff at her side.

Valyv!

Billie wasn't going to die here in some stupid pit match! He'd seen her in a future vision, a glimpse of her fighting on the periphery of a battle between the other heroes and their enemies.

He took another deep breath and let loose a sigh of relief. The knot in his stomach unraveled. Of course, he would need to review his vision journal to see if little Billie appeared in the background of other visions. But for now, it was enough. He felt a growing certainty that Billie wasn't going to die in that pit.

Leaning down, he spoke to Valyv. "What do you think, boy? Is Black-eyed Billie gonna put the hurt on an old lady or is the old lady can give her the smack down?"

You can then choose a different creature you can see within range (you can choose yourself). The chosen creature has advantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw it makes within 1 minute. A creature can be empowered by only one use of this spell at a time.

PART 1:
A GATHERING OF WANDERERS

Urileth's smile never faded as the situation suddenly escalated, her instincts kicked in. Billie's shadowy echo made its swing toward her, and Urileth's confidence only grew. She moved with incredible agility, sidestepping the attack effortlessly without ever looking at the echo. In a swift motion, Urileth brought her own blade up, swinging at the echo that stands behind her. The attack makes contact, severing the shadow and causing it to dissipate. The old elf trains her eyes on Billie. "You'll have to do better than that, my dear," Urileth sneered, her voice laced with superiority. "I've seen the tricks you wolf pups use. Any originality in that head of yours?"

In the stands, another gentleman that was sitting next to Mags chimed in. "10 silver says the ashen-haired one gets her arse kicked." He grunted with a snort. "Your mutt there might have a better chance, Urileth is a seasoned fighter."

Urileth was now on the offensive, quickly she closed the distance striking with her elvish blade aimed for Billie's own head. At the last moment, she changed trajectory and smacked Billie hard across the back with the flat side of her blade as she circled under Billie's guard and was now at her back. The tip of Urileth's blade was pressed upon the small of Billies back. "One," Urileth said as she went back into a defensive stance. "Your go." The old Elf said again.

Billie's back arched and she gave a gasp of pleasure as her body absorbed the blow. She always savored that first strike, the awakening of her senses, the tingling to the tips of her fingers. "Oh... I always like starting things off with a love tap." The ashen haired girl didn't turn around, instead she jumped away spinning, her body suddenly vapourizing and appearing sever feet in the air behind Urileth in mid swing.

As the flat of her own blade brought up solid in the elf's middle, Billie twisted mid air using the momentum from the sword to spin her body and sail her foot towards the side of the elf's head, but the wily old hag's reflexes were keen and her boot only caught a few strands of hair. Like a cat she landed softly in the sand with the tip of warding blade firmly in front of her. She slipped into a low sideways stance behind her weapon, feet dug in and legs cocked and taught, ready to eject her into a flurry of violent motion without hesitation. "Maybe you should swap that sword for a cane, ya?"

"10 silver says the ashen-haired one gets her arse kicked."

Mags felt a wrongness about the man who'd offered the bet. In a large and spacious auditorium, why had the man come to sit next to a stranger with a dangerous looking Mastiff.

"I wouldn't want to take your money," Mags replied.

Mags got up and moved a few spaces away from the gentleman, calling Valyv to follow him--hoping he wouldn't have to use the last of the spanakopita. Satisfied with ten feet of distance between himself and the gentleman, he used his invisible hand to lift the gentleman's purse.

"Any originality in that head of yours?"

Mags let out a snort of laughter before he could stop himself. He looked sheepish, though Billie was probably too focused on the battle to have noted his remorse.

The last of his fear dissipated when the woman used the flat of her sword on Billie. This was no death match. He vowed that he would find a way to pay Billie back for the scare she'd given him.

After the opening exchange, Mags thought the old woman would seriously outmatch Billie, but then ashen-haired warrior sprang into action. Mags found himself on his feet cheering before he realized what he was doing. "Go Billie!"

He was excited for her. He wanted her to win. She certainly had the confidence and showmanship to be a pit fighter. But he wasn't about to take the bet. He hadn't worked since the dream started plaguing his sleep; he'd been too focused on getting to Baromenes as quickly as possible. Consequently, he was unusually low on funds. He needed to save his money for the safe house he hoped to secure before the night was done.

Of course, Billie might be hurt if-- Wait... did Billie have hurt feelings?

Of course, Billie might become angry with him for refusing the bet. So he decided he would remove 10 silver pieces from the gentleman's pocket and pay it back to him when Billie lost the match.
