The 'Outwall' area that surrounds the city is huge, by all accounts, easily larger than the city proper, maybe even twice as large. There are definitely a LOT of people crammed into the tents, hovels, and ramshackle structures that pass as buildings. Though many are probably in bed asleep, there are still lots of people out and about. Refugees by the look of most of them. Amira spends most of her time swinging her A dark and haunted graveyard with ghost and zombies in | Stable Diffusion |  OpenArtwhip around and yelling at the encroaching crowds. Clearly she is no fan of refugee mobs. The majority of the people are unwashed and hungry and quickly scatter from her. A few others need more direct help turning around and moving away from the wagon, but nothing gets out of hand at all.

Finally, after at least another hour of traveling around the outskirts of the city, she points to a well lit, two-story structure just on the other side of the main road heading west out of Rooksroost. "Finally," she signs. "The Last Chance!"

She leads the wagon toward it, skirting a wide, fenced in area. "Cemetery," she mutters, nodding her head in the direction of the dark, overgrown area. A large building can be seen toward the center, but with the absence of lights in the area, no details can be seen. As the group passes a rusty old gate in the cemetery fence, a shrill scream can be heard coming from within.

The scream drew Arwi's attention. He turned towards the cemetery and peered into the darkness.

 

"Did you hear that? Somebody might be in trouble. Maybe we should check it out.", he said.

Arwi looks back several times, trying to see what it was he had heard, but the darkness and gloom hanging over the cemetery is even too thick for his Half Elven eyes to penetrate. Finally, the group finishes its circuit around the northern end of Rookroost and Amira points out their destination, the Last Chance Inn. Several burly and mean looking brutes hang out around the outside of the tall, two story wood-plank building. One of them steps forward as the wagon approaches. He looks at the group and then nods to Amira before stepping back to lean against the wall again.

A few moments later, two young stablehands run from around the far side of the inn to take the reins from Amira. One of the toughs, clearly employees of the Inn, comes over and silently oversees the stablehands as they take the oxen, wagon, and horse around toward the barn. Amira points toward the door. "Let's get some dinner and a drink, shall we?"

The Baklunish woman leads the way, opening the door to the Inn. Sounds of people eating, drinking, and talking spill out into the cool, dark night. As the group enters, a dramatic hush falls over the place as everyone stops talking and turns toward the door. All eyes are pointing in the direction of the door. There are about fifteen to twenty patrons in the inn, as well as a few people working the bar and serving drinks. Amira quickly heads off to make lodging arrangements. Slowly, the patrons all turn back to their drinks, food, and conversation.

 


OOC: Ok. Sorry about the interruption. You're at the inn, Amira will arrange for a place to stay and dinner. what does everyone else want to do?

Arwi met the stares with a neutral look, trying to look unassuming. He took the opportunity to scan the crowd for anyone that might appear to be hostile to the group. When everyone turned away he looked around for a table large enough for the party.

A couple of minstrels in a far corner begin playing again. Arwi finds a table for the group to sit down at, only having to move one passed out fellow from a bench onto the floor. As everyone sits, Amira returns carrying some dark glass bottles and enough glasses for everyone. She sits with a huff and quickly begins pouring. "To you all, thank you for seeing me all the way to Rookroost. Arwi you have been with me for some time, and the rest of you did well, really proved yourself out on the road. I still have to get into the city and sell my cargo before I can pay you, but if you stick with me for just a bit longer, you will get your coin." She passes the glasses around and raises hers, toasting the group.

The perceptive ones in the group notice quite a few eyes watching them as they drink their toast, though noone seems to be doing more than just checking out the newcomers. Arwi feels that, while there may be some dangerous characters in the room, they should be safe enough here.

Kelarith, Warlock

Kelarith takes a seat, orders the night's meal and an ale, and attempts to look relaxed. He leans back in his chair, flipping the cowl of his cloak down. One crossbow is displayed prominently on his right hip, while the other sits concealed within his cloak. He lets his gaze flit inconspicuously around the room, taking note of all the other inhabitants of the bar. After his initial threat assessment is complete, he leans forward, resting his elbows on the grimy table, and addresses his companions.

"So, where's it to for you lot once this contract is through?" He asks, accepting his ail and stew from the server, in exchange for a handful of coins. He inspects the meal peripherally for some indication of rot or maggots, eventually satisfying himself that the food, while somewhat unsavory, was at least edible, and digging in eagerly.

Nessia inspects her drink, not for maggots, but for unusual smells... Looking up at her companions, she grunts and nods in approval as she eats. Then, says, "That's never a bad idea..."
