spacer.pngSlammed into the wall, Val is dazed a moment; then fumbling she pulls out her pistol and tears a paper bullet with her teeth, pouring the powder down the barrel, tamping it and dropping in the lead ball. The young woman's motions are as practiced and mechanical as anything the robot is doing. Lifting the barrel as she pulls back on the hammer she points the gun at the robot, a little shaky now, "This is my house you piece of junk. Nobody pushes me around here who isn't family!"

 

The gun's report is loud in the hallway as she fires and then pushes herself and Violet away from the automaton.

Caught off-guard by the loud crashing noises, the rest of the party rush out the back of the tavern to see what's going on.

 

The Baine residence isn't exactly large, more like cosy and practical. Through the windows at the front of the building, most of you can make out the grey and white hulk of dented metal and exposed wires.


"Val!" Standing on the inside of the doorway is Violet, her jaw agape as she reaches behind to unsling her blunderbuss as Val's own pistol fires a shot, albeit it having just ricocheted off the top of what would be the shoulder of the metal hulk and to little effect.

 

A split second later, Violet's longarm is already up on aim, and a loud chack… POW! accompanies a momentary flash at the barrel's muzzle, swiftly followed by its spewing out a thick puff of acrid smoke.

 

As the shot pelts the robot in the arm that touched Val, the android took a step back, trying to tug Val away with her.

When Val and Vi dragged/pushed each other back, Vri didn't hesitate and stepped into the spot before the robot could react and tried to push her rapier in between any gap in the armour plates that she could see.

5ft step into the corridor, then attack.

 

EDIT: if the robot attacks me, I'll use a panache point to use Opportune Parry and Riposte to try and make it miss and then attack myself.

Aiming at the robot past Vri she shouts, "Sorry for the noise..." The report is deafening in the enclosed space the bullet however zings off the thing's metallic carapace.

Rain-in-Summer

As Barhuce pries the window open to climb in, Vri takes the direct route in through the front door, stepping in between Val and the metallic automaton. This creature with a vaguely humanoid torso is definitely significantly larger than the arachnid robots they've seen back at Durom's farm, standing to a height of five feet on its three legs, with one blazing eye at the centre of its head.

 

Vri's rapier finds an exposed clutter of wires in the thing's left arm and slices through, causing some sparks to fly from the newly severed ends.

 

Meanwhile, Rain moves in with her healing hands, reaching through the doorway to soothe Val's bruises and scrapes. Busying herself with her pistol though, Val's shot ricochets off the creatures's rounded back and almost hits Barhuce in the side of the face, whizzing past him with a loud clack before the shot embeds itself somewhere in the walls of the house.

 

"Yo dat's BULLsheeeit! Pile'a trash wot'n movin' befoe'!" Hefting a light hammer in his hand, he took off in a dash, squeezing between the Foundry and the residence and disappearing around the corner.

 

Reaching in through the window, T'Sarra's claws met the hard substance of the robot's frame, but her blow is deflected immediately before she's able to make any purchase.

 

Shifting its focus to the half-elf now in the way, the robot lifts its arms once again, but the downward swing is severely off target, and its fists fling past Vri's side with a loud crash, pounding a large hole into the interior wall of the home's hallway.

 

The hallway being now more crowded than Violet would like, Val still being in between the robot and herself, the android quickly dropped the firearm and retrieved it from its sheath hanging off her belt at the side of her hip, and flung it forward with a deft hand, striking the robot in the exact same spot where her bullet had hit before.

At the site of the hated robot, Barhuce forgets caution and throws an Alkahest bomb despite the nearness of his allies. "Fire in the hole!" In his haste, the bomb hits the wall next to the robot, splashing bot the bot and Barhuce with acid.

"Maybe they can repair themselves?" she guessed out loud at Matuq's outburst, trusting the old blacksmith to know when something like this has been properly smashed.

"Which leaves for some unpleasant scenarios about the five we hauled back here! We'll have to dismember them better, make sure they aren't undoing our fine work taking them apart. But first things first."

T'Sarra winced at Barhuce's misfire. That had to hurt, though maybe it'd leave her an opening. She swung her other hand in through the window and tried with both claws.

Rain-in-Summer

The oracle’s senses sharpen, and a faint light only she can see seems to outline her target. Rain then loads her crossbow. The shaman wracks her brain for clues as to how they can defeat this machine.

Barhuce's bomb smashed against the wall in the hallway between himself and the robot, splashing both in the process, although he seemed to have hit himself with the majority of it. To Val's dismay, the acid quickly singed a small painting, a part of the walls, and a small corner of a rug, and may be beginning to leave stains on the flooring inside the house. On a positive note, it also seems to be eating through some of the wires on the metal hulk...

 

Vri's sword strikes true again, this time finding a spot on the robot frame's would-be pelvis to stab into.

 

Rain's touch guides T'Sarra's hand in combat, though even that doesn't seem to help too much as both of the tiefling's claws still miss their mark, so she loads her crossbow in case the others fail to take down the automaton.

 

Rain Only

While you haven't seen any constructs specifically resembling this one per se and therefore have no idea what it is designed to actually do, it looks pretty clear that this robot is malfunctioning in some sense, as it seems to stagger some and looks more confused than purposeful in its movements. That, along with the extensive damage to its chassis, would drive you to believe that this thing might perhaps be particularly vulnerable to either electricty or critical hits, possibly both. That said, with the over-large eye at the centre of what must pass for a head, this thing probably has some serious capabilities in terms of taking in information from its surroundings.

 

Val's angry outburst is accompanied by the firing of one more shot, this time punching a bullet hole straight into the robot's head. And as Matuq opens the door around the side of the house and races around the corner, the mechanical monstrosity collapses backward, falling onto the floor in the hallway of Val's home, a small wisp of smoke escaping from the fresh gunshot mark now penetrating its forehead.
