spacer.pngVal looks at the dwarf, "So, you coat one side of this with an alchemical adhesive compound, but when jolted by an electrical current it changes it's alchemical nature... I assume altering it to what you call an ion, which has even stronger alchemical bonds than the normal bonding of the adhesive?"

At The Foundry Tavern

T'Sarra was intrigued by the news about 'Weeping Slough'. "What have you heard about those caves? Seems like we might be heading to them soon to try to figure out what happened to the Torch and how to turn it back on."

She rolled her eyes at the 'demonstration'. She wasn't sure how much she really trusted this Sanvil guy to start, and would definitely take any info he had about the caves with a huge grain of salt. But now that he had hog tied her new friend Vri, she made up her mind. She didn't trust him at all.

"You better know how to get this off," she growled as she reached in and tried to help Vri get the tape off her wrists.

As much as Vri and T'Sarra try, the strip of "ion tape" wouldn't tear or come undone.

 

As they busy themselves attempting to rip this stuff from her wrists, Sanvil turns his attention to Val, confirming her postulation, "I'm of the opinyion that the whole material of the tape gets… ionized, and that it chaynges the strength of the whole thang, if you know what I mean."

 

"But the great thang is, with another little jolt…" Casually, he reaches back over to Vri with the rod-like device, and with a light zap of electrical discharge, Vri's wrists literally fly apart under the force of the two women's combined efforts at ripping the stuff, pretty much shredding the material into two clean pieces, the ends still sticking meekly to each wrist as they separate.

 

"Just like that it comes undone."

 

Meanwhile, for as much as Barhuce knows about medicine and chemicals, for the moment he cannot figure out what is inside the vials or what they do. Maybe with some more time to study…

T'Sarra stumbled clumsily backwards as the tape gave way. "We're not paying for that!"

She pointed an accusing claw at Sanvil and another indicating the torn strip of tape.

"But I could see how it'd be useful, yeah, OK," she admitted reluctantly.

"If you don't know any more about the caverns under the slough though, we should be on our way to talk to the town council. Barhuce, we can go shopping later, maybe get you something nice," she smirked at the alchemist.

"We first have to get some business done with the council," Vri said to Sanvil, "but after that I might be back for some of that stuff. It will depend a bit on what's going on there I guess."

spacer.png"Aonly that they been havin' people run down there, and fer whatever reason rumour 'round taown's they ain't all come back." Sanvil said as he shook his head, admitting that his knowledge on the matter is somewhat limited. Then as you turn away from his merchandise to continue on your way towards Town Hall, he offers, "Hay listen. If y'all are goin' down there, I'd be vaery interested in anything y'all manage teh find and bring back."

 

After watching Sanvil's demonstration of the ion tape, Violet lingered a while, staring at some of the merchant's wares longingly, but eventually continued on with the rest, tailing just behind Val and slightly to her side.

 



The remainder of the walk to Town Hall was relatively uneventful, as your party maneuver around more trash on the streets, crossing North Bridge as you dodge the occasional rodent down towards Town Square.

 

Town Hall itself stands as one of the grander buildings in Torch, no doubt doubling as a second garrison and lookout tower watching over the eastern roads.

spacer.png"We simply cannae hae fowk dumping garbage intae oor swallyin cooncil juice," As you get inside the building, you hear the voice of an older dwarven woman, stating some fact clearly and deliberately at another, much younger human in front of her.

 

spacer.png"But Councillor, between our regular duties and carting the town's garbage, my men are tapped..." The younger woman in front of her replied, sounding somewhat frustrated and resigned at the situation. A fancy waist sash emblazoned with the town's coat of arms is worn over her breastplate, and it perhaps bespoke of some official position or title.

 

Though the dwarf appears a step short from literally tearing a strip off the younger female, she is clearly telling the redhead how it is. "Ah dinnae care howfur shorthanded th' guard is, Captain, ye WULL hing yer men tae patrol th' water tae prevent ony further dumpings, or AH wull fin' someone mair capable tae replace ye!"

 

"Yes Councillor." Seeing as she has little choice in the matter, the human clicked her heels together, then turned from the conversation, breathing a long quiet sigh as she walked past your group out the door.

At The Council Chamber

"None of it matters," T'Sarra interrupted, interjecting herself in the conversation.

"It's all just a stop gap measure unless we can find Khonnir get him out and get the Torch back lit. And that's why we're here. What can you tell us about where Khonnir went? Is that the 'caves under the slough' we heard about? Has anyone come out? Do we know anything about what's in there?" she rattled off questions. She had more but thought she should give the dwarf woman a chance to respond.

In the council chamber Barhuce grimaces. T’sarra’s speech may be bit abrupt, though the Daren councilor might appreciate that.

spacer.png"Yi'll waant tae come'at me again lassie?" The dwarven woman's immediate reaction to T'Sarra's brashness was not exactly a positive one. "Even if it's ainlie temporary, public health isnae something we kin juist drap whenever we damn weel please."

 

After chastising the tiefling about the importance of upkeep regarding the townspeople's health, she softened slightly, "I dinnae ken aboot na 'slew', bit if ye'r keekin fur Councilman Baine, ye kin either gang underneath Weeping Pond 'n' keek yersel', or tak' a batch wi' th' rest o' us."

 

Continuing to answer T'Sarra's onslaught of questions, the elderly dwarf went on, "Four expeditions hae gaen doon sin th' torch gaed oot, bit ain't nobody haes come oot aside fae Khonnir's group. 'N' even thay haven't come back sin th' seicont time thay gaed under Black Hill."

 

"Noo ah hawp 'twas Khonnir his-sel wha clocked something wasn't ferr richt, th' day th' flame gaed oot." As she continued to explain the situation, a worried expression clouded her features, "He wis thare tryin' oot th' cooncil juice tae ensure it hadn’t suddenly grown mair toxic — 'N' he clocked a lairge batch o' human footprints oan th' pond’s banks. He mist hae realized that a sizable group o' fowk hud entirt th' pond bit hud nae emerged."

 

Rain Only

You can only gather by the way that the older dwarven woman dressed down that younger human in uniform, that she must be either some kind of important person, or at least a respected figure in town.

 

Now turning her attention from the tiefling to some of her companions that have followed her through the door, the dwarf addresses Rain, her tone of voice becoming more reasonable still, "Weel ah think we kin gree oan yin thing at least. Th' lassie is richt, finding Councillor Baine is o' th' hi'est priority, richt alongside finding oot whither we kin even reignite th' torch atop Black Hill."

 

Clenching her fists as she turns to round the corner of an office desk, she says, "Noo, muckle as ah loathe this desk riding, 'n' wid gang wi' ye doon thare in a heartbeat, someone's git tae keep th' toun running 'n' bade th' townsfolk fae spreading disease 'n' pelter."

Vri was struggling to get the dwarven accent. It was easier to learn Undercommon and that wasn't an easy language either.

"Do you have any maps or something from the Torch and the area below where Counsillor Baine might be," Vri asked, "we could go and have a look there while you focus on keeping the town healthy. You might want to think of burning some of the garbage to get rid of it... downwind though."

Back in time a little because I can't resist, walking from the market, talking to Barhuce

"What a coincidence, me too!" T'Sarra laughed at the alchemist's comment.

"Let me know if you find one, maybe she'll have a sister," she laughed, enjoying the banter.

At The Council Chamber

T'Sarra stood staring at the shorter stout woman who was clearly upset at her intrusion. She shook her head a little. What in the hells was she saying? OK focus, try to pic out a few words and reply.

"I guess we'll be going doon... I mean down too. Can you give any help with that equipment or assistance? What did Khonnir say about what was waiting down there when he came out the first time? Wait, under the Weeping Pond? How did they get down under the pond? Swim? Can you all swim?" she asked her companions.
