Harder is first through the door and determined to beat his personal best of two mugs of ale -- he's never failed to get at least one yet. Standing at the jump line, he readies himself and then makes his leap, willing himself forward but he lands squarely within the two mug area once again. He scowls at the wine mark a moment before accepting his two mugs of ale, one in each hand, which he holds up to the cheers of the crowd.

"Hope you've got that barrel ready", he tells Ricio. "We're going to be using it to celebrate when we finally open our headquarters...."

Uugghh! I really got to find another tavern to frequent. This is no way for a self respecting dwarf to enter a tavern.

He takes a running start and attempts to do a little flip to entertain the customers. Unfortunately, he manages the flip and lands on his feet, but does not make it to even the first line. He gives a little bow to all the boos for a bad entry. And then heads to a table.

Speaking of a headquarters, we should do some looking and try to find an empty building that we could either rent or buy and use as such. Maybe we can't afford it now, but at least we could get some ideas of what it would cost to both rent and buy out right. With the added bonus of we would not need to rent rooms at an inn or travel to families homes every night.

Kythera looks as the others try to jump over the entryway into the tavern.

"Nice job, Harder."

She winces when Baldur jumps and decides his stumpy legs must have hindered him. With no other way in, she joins the line and jumps when it's her turn, but gets tangled in her chain shirt and shield, falling flat on her face as she tries to go in. She rolls off to the side, stands up and gives an exaggerated bow to the crowd, making fun of herself and the bumbling entrance. She shakes her head and walks in.

Byra, halfling daughter of Taem and Gyo

Willow Creek, built right into the side of a large hill it was, they were immediately accosted by a hoarde of beggars as they made their way into the village. They found the village to have no walls and no real militia that they could see. Prominent buildings were:

the Crossed Guard (blacksmith),

the Wise Owl (tavern): Lewis Pickerton (proprietor), Eldeth (dwarf on Inspiration Dust)

Roots and Hourglass (alchemist),

the Bearded Cabinet (general store),

the Temple of the Eternal Mother (church).

Egg smiles, finding the quirk of the Lucky Leap a fun twist. Best for people to make a long jump before drinking and eating than after. He gives time for Ky to give her extra bow and step to the side before the Elf takes a couple steps back and then gracefully jumps into the air.

No tricks, now flourishes, just a simple, straightforward leap from the Priest, and though well short of Harder's impressive leap, it still is quite a good showing.

"I am in need to tell curious people a good story and open to questionable people making foolish suggestions." He takes the mug handed out to him and takes a big drink. To regular patrons, they know Egg is not bashful to tell of what he's been up to, and is always at least eager to hear out anyone trying to gamble or persuade him out of his coin or his clothes.

He steps further in giving room for their remaining companions.

"Oh, well done," Gwydion says as Harder makes a flying leap. He claps appreciatively as Baldur and Egg both land with varying success.

He speeds his steps as it's his turn and he approaches the door, sweeping off his hat and attempting a fancy flying flip, trying to outdo Harder. Unfortunately, his heels get caught in his cloak and he only avoids falling on his head by folding nearly double, his toes landing just beyond the line. "Bugger. Only a small beer?" He straightens and grimaces. "I think I pulled something in my back."

 

"A headquarters might be a good idea..." He smoothes his mustache thoughtfully as he follows the others up to the bar. "We need a place for meetings and so people can find us, at any rate. I do wonder at the difficulty we face in becoming legitimate. That might be worth investigating further, as well."

CHAPTER ONE - BLOOD ON THE CROWN


The group made their entrance to the crowded taproom, looking for an available table, and finding only one left that wasn't a private booth around the edges of the walls. The private booths could be closed off from the main room via a thick green curtain, but the booths only held four people, so they would not be an ideal fit.

The bar of the establishment was thick wood and had soaked in more liquid than the mast of a ship. There was also the extensive collection of barrels and bottles of ale, beer, liquor, and wine of various qulaities that were stored behind it. Then there was the centerpiece of the wall behind the bar where two dwarven throwing axes were mounted in a cross pattern.

Known for its drinks and not its food, the Lucky Leap was only serving pottage for lunch, with a mug of ale for only three coppers. A meal that was known around the tavern as the "poor man's special". 

The only patron that stood out was a blonde haired dwarven male that had large amber eyes, and numerous cruel looking scars.  He wore dark robes and had a wicked looking club dangling from his belt. Upon the tabletop was a strange looking board game that he had set up.  The chair across from him was empty.

The two bartenders at the Lucky Leap, Hala and Madrika, both in their thirties and both well-seasoned and experienced mixologist who knew how to entertain a crowd and did it with flair. The two specialty drinks of the moment were something called a Bourbon Revival (a sophisticated twist on a whiskey sour) for one silver, and another called a Voodoo Enchantress, inspired by the dark arts, the Voodoo Enchantress combines the rich flavors of chicory liquor with a hint of intrigue. The bewitching libation was sure to cast a spell on your taste buds for only two silvers.

Kythera orders two of Voodoo Enchantress drinks, finding the name appropriate for her skills. She's not sure what's in it but she isn't going to drink it very quickly anyway. She then takes the extra drink over to the blond-haired dwarf, offering to him as she motions to the board game in front of the man.

"Hello, I'm Ky. Would you like to try one of these with me? What's the game?"

Yaldiled decides to skip the drinks, the pair of ales more than enough to wet her whistle for now. buildings"There are building you can get for cheap whole, but typically not in good condition. And location is a concern as well. We want a place that's easily accessible, and people won't be afraid to go. Renting may be our best option, at least for now. We aren't really swimming in gold right now."

Baldur sits and listens and watches as the others gather and they start discussing the possibility of a headquarters.

A cheap run-down building would not be a problem. I would actually enjoy fixing it up. That's what my family does. But I agree we need to try to find one in a decent location, so people are not scared to come see us.

He watches as Ky heads over and starts talking to the lone dwarf.

Do you suppose she is going to try to hire every stray/lone person she sees?

The rogue returns to their table with the small beer he earned with his fumbled leap and a larger tankard to keep him occupied.

"I think our wizard likes to wander," Gwydion says as Ky meanders over to the occult dwarf. "My father was the same way. Wise to keep an eye on her, is my experience. Tend to wander into trouble as often as not. But, you can't stop 'em wandering."

 

He leans back in his chair. "We could just set up shop here. No rent to pay, but we'll have to stay up to date with our bar tab. Anyway, people would always know where to find us and it would be... Discreet. They're not here to deal with us, just have a friendly drink, eh?"

As Ky sat down across from the dwarf, the man smiled wickedly. Only nodding when offered the elixir as he took it from her hand. He then began to set playing pieces up on the game board which resembled a chessboard, but the pieces looked like undead figures. "I call it Battlechess." he said bluntly, "The skeletons are your pawns, the specters are your rooks, you have ghoulish knights, and ghostly bishops, and finally you have your lich king and banshee queen." the dwarf began, the game seemed simple enough, but that was before he began explaining the rules and waved his hand and another ghostly chessboard appeared above the first. "The top board is in the ethereal, and only certain of your pieces can move there. Namely, the specters, the ghost, and your banshee queen." he then produced numerous dice for the pieces to use in battle when you tried to take a piece from the board. As each piece battled the other in a game of dice to determine the winner.

"First games on me, once you have the hang of it, we shall wager. Yes?" he asked as he took his first sip from the concoction, the chicory biting into his tongue. "The drink is really quite lovely. Fitting that you brought it to me. My name is Khari."

"Hm... yes, we are still short on gold for what we'd like to accomplish. And yes, someone aught to keep an eye on Ky..." There's an unmistakable humor in his voice. "Now if you'll excuse me, I will be spending some money and wandering about myself. Hala! Madrika! One of each of those fine specialty drinks for me, if it pleases."

He clasps his hands together as he glances about. Ky may have sat down with the most interesting person, but surely others are interesting in their own right... "Now who's having a good time..." Eagerly, shamelessly, Egg intends to ingratiate himself to whoever is having themselves a good time, and seeing what antics may end up happening.

Harder's not much for fancy drinks. If he wants something stronger than his ale he generally just orders a whiskey.

"That's not a terrible idea", he allows when Gwydion suggests setting up shop at the Lucky Leap. "At least in the short term. Maybe Ricio could rent us a space, even let us put up our manticore head. That and having some famous adventurers on site ought to be a boost for business.... And Ricio's a respected businessman. Or at least a businessman. Maybe he could put in a word with the council for us, or at least suss out why we've been having so much trouble getting licensed...."

Working out of here to start, if the owner agrees, but eventually I would like to have our own place. I will go see if he has a problem with us working out of his tavern before we talk anymore of that.

He heads over to the bar and inquiries of Ricio if he would be interested in letting them use one of his private booths to run their business from. And if he is interested what accommodations he want to put in place.
