The enemies were closing fast and their carefully laid trap was near worthless. This would be a fight, not an ambush it seemed. Static rose from his clothes and filled the air in a bubble for thirty feet on every side of Kendrick. He focused on his enemies, allowing cousin Tuco to exclude his friends from the blast.

"Now! Shock them now!"

Pain. It was a searing symphony of agony that resonated through Duncan's battered body. Yet, within the storm of suffering, a calm resolve held firm. He wouldn't succumb, not while his companions remained in peril.

"Solev, grant me strength," Duncan prayed silently as his spirit igniting with the fervor of a Strategic Blow. The bardiche sang as it sliced through the air, but the strike went astray, a bitter disappointment that twisted in his gut. "No matter," he thought, drawing upon the strike's inherent healing energy, feeling the warmth of divine grace mend his wounds. "Every moment counts."

With a surge of haste fueled by his enchanted boots, Duncan became a whirlwind of righteous fury. "For my family... for my friends... for all that is good," he whispered with each swing of his bardiche. One blow missed, a fleeting frustration, but the other three found their mark. The first, empowered by the divine, struck true with a thunderous crack, cleaving through Shinoyari's defenses and sending a jolt of satisfaction through Duncan's weary soul. He smiled grimly smile.

Each strike was a testament to his unwavering resolve, each parry a defiant stand against the encroaching darkness. His body might falter, his strength might wane, but Duncan Szordrin, the paladin of Solev, would fight on.

Edmund fires the repeating crossbow, sending a flurry of quarrels at the enemy warrior. One bounces off Shinoyari's armor but two others strike true, drawing grunts from the mysterious fighter. Aranaias immediately follows up with a Holy Smite, fully blasting Seraphina and Krekie. Izenfen is able to avoid the brunt of the damage.

In a burst of ancestral power, Kendrick raises his hands to the ceiling and burns with a bright glowing flame for a moment before a blast of holy energy rips from his body, exploding outward and catching both Shinoyari and Jalabar in the area of effect. Neither are stunned, but both look injured.

Then Duncan proceeds to wail on Shinoyari again, inflicting mortal damage upon Shinoyari, who collapses in a bloody, pulpy heap.

The spiritual ally moves itself to flank Kendrick and then Jalabar lashes out at the oracle in a flurry of unarmed blows, chanting in a guttural tongue as he does so. Fire leaps from the tiefling's hands as he punches over and over, finally executing a leg sweep with the fury and speed of a viper. As that happens, Seraphina casts a spell and is suddenly surrounded by seven illusory copies of herself that all move as one.

"Fire at the paladin. He's vulnerable and hasn't moved," Izenfen hisses to Krekie. The tengu nods and fires her bow. The first arrow goes wide, as does the third (both would have hit had the assassin not been blind), but the second strikes true. Izenfen points the Hand of Vecna at Duncan and hisses, "Now die!" A bolt of sizzling green lightning blazes through the cavern and strikes the paladin full in the chest before leaping first to Aranaias and then to Kendrick.

Kendrick takes 15 points of fire damage, 15 points of negative energy damage, and is prone. Duncan takes 7 points of damage and needs to make a DC 15 Fort save or be poisoned. Duncan, Kendrick, and Aranaias each take 60 points of electrical damage. Duncan may make a DC 24 Reflex save for half. For Aranaias and Kendrick, the save is DC 22.

Aranaias takes the bolt of electricity, and the energy seems to speed up his actions.

Before Duncan can move, Aranaias utters a prayer to Solev and a bright healing light encompasses himself and the paladin.

Turning slightly, he looks at Jalabar, who is suddenly engulfed in a pillar of flame.

Actions

Aranaias saves against the lightning, taking 30 damage. He uses a Quick Channel to heal himself and Duncan for 36, taking care to exclude Shinoyari from the effect. Jalabar saves vs. Fire damage, so only takes 19 damage.

His enemies were clearly upon him now, the pain attested to this. He gritted his teeth and concentrated on piercing the vale again. If this fight went any longer there might not be any Willowsong family members left on the other side of death to call upon.

"Entrap those at the cave entrance! Let them see your faces!"

Kendrick cast Wall of Ectoplasm shaping it as a hemisphere. It requires 36 damage to destroy a ten foot square section. Damaged sections will be filled by spare sections if this were a flat wall. The overall size of the wall would shrink relative to the damage. Since Kendrick can create a hemisphere 16 feet in diameter but is only creating one 10 feet in diameter this should leave lots of extra ectoplasm to fill in the gaps. A fear effect radiates from one side of the wall. In this case Kendrick chooses the interior wall of the hemisphere.
