Group A


As the hammer of force Finwe had summoned slammed into the flying draconic beats, it succumbed to its wounds and tumbled down onto the stairs below, though this did not seem to bother the two fell looking undead draconic beasts on the stair. The same could not be said for the wave of heat that soon followed, engulfing the slow moving beasts and singing their decaying hide to a crispy sizzling that fills the air with a putrid smell of decay.

From down the stair, movement can be heard again and soon the chanting of divine and arcane words flowing over each other again. An ephemeral scythe not unlike the hammer floating over the stair, materializes in the air before the dwarf warriors and slashes across one, opening a gash in their chest. A moment after the first draconic beast lumbers forward, another one of the dwarf warriors suddenly seems to panic and turns tail to run.

One after the other, the two charred, decaying draconic beats lumber forward and try to bite into the remaining dwarf warrior by the stair, who deftly fends off the creature's assaults.

More movement can be heard from below as armored warriors shuffle up the stair

Qwynn, evading the fall and clanking tumble of his lantern over his head as his focus shifts to the combat, looses two arrows at the draconic beasts, but both fly wide, much to his frustration.

Some more moaning sounds rise form the stair below.

The dwarf warriors, clearly shaken by Kealea's quick demise, nonetheless close ranks like the trained and hardened warriors they are and lash out at the draconic beasts, landing axes and arrows into the beast's hides.

More unseen movement continues from below...

Group B


While Dolan prepares and attack, Daltin grumbles in anger and frustration.

Yohan however, steps bravely through the wall of light, trusting in his faith to guide him. Though he is a brave holy hand of the Morninglord, the sight before him is almost enough to set some fear in his heart. Arrayed on the stair just beyond the wall are no less than two draconic beasts, with a large third floating above them, visible if obscured, behind these are an array of clearly lifeless warriors and hulking orcish skeletons, familiar masked warriors flank these further down the stairs with bows in hand. Without a moment's hesitation, he lashes out at the floating draconic warrior above him, but his mace flies just wide of striking the creature.

The draconic warrior lashes out at Yohan in a fierce response, his only visible target, he focuses his wrath upon the warrior, striking with all four limbs and opening several terrible gashes in the scale armor.

Yohan is emboldened when the voice of Baldin rises behind him in praise to the morninglord and suddenly a rose hued aura flows over the undead masses and the lifeless warriors and skeletal orcs behind the decaying draconic beasts crumble to dust, revealing two barely visible figures further down the stair.

One of them make a movement but Yohan is distracted as one of the decaying draconic beasts lashes out at him, sinking razor sharp fangs into his side.

Beldas shouts out behind Yohan.

"Are ya mad man?! Baldin, drop that wall, they'll rip him to shreds!"

This is followed by some arcane syllables from below. Yohan feels something come over him, but his faith protects him. It does not protect him however from the second draconic beast laying into him with it's jaw as well and with that, he can take the onslaught no more and collapses to the cold floor.

Some arrows come flying through the wall of light into the chamber, but they are clearly not aimed at anyone in particular and all fly wide.

The dwarf warriors quickly pull Yohan's limp form into the chamber and towards Baldin even as they efficiently close ranks.

Finwe is glad to see the flying drake fall, but a little disappointed when the other two did not. And then he sees the larger group coming up the stairs and figures another fireball is in order. He takes a moment to redirect the hammer to one of the undead. He then repeats the chant and fires another small pearl of flame down the stairs and into middle of the group further down the stairs.

Hooded lantern with Continual Flame is hanging from his belt.

 

Kodo has scent so can detect them if they get within 30', but can only pin point them if they are within 5'. Unless he spends a move action concentrating and trying to locate the smell. Not sure if that is a skill or just a flat Stat check. I am guessing it would be Wisdom.

Group A


The sounds of some shuffling can be heard from down the stair. One of the dwarf defenders shouts out.

"Skeletons!"

Almost as he speaks, the loud rush of water can be heard again down the stairs as the large hammer of force swings wide at the smaller undead draconic beasts on the stair. Almost in tandem a small bead of elemental fire leaves Finwe's arms as it travels past the dwarves and down the stairs, exploding a breath later in a loud blast that echoes through the halls again, sending another wave of heat up the stairs. Shouts of pain tinged with fear can be heard from below, coupled with curses in Calant.

From down the stair, more movement can be heard and more chanting, though this time it is one voice. Another utters a single muffled syllable and two small dragon shaped bolts of dark energy slam into one of the dwarf defenders. The ephemeral scythe swings at another and draws blood this time.

One after the other, the two charred, decaying draconic beats bite into the remaining dwarves. Though one misses its mark, the other sinks its fangs deep and the defender before it falls to the bite, a gash torn from its waist. Suddenly, without noise or fanfare, the two decaying beasts vanish from sight.

More movement can be heard from below as armored warriors shuffle up the stair. A barrage of arrows whistles though the air and over the dwarf defenders, flying wide and snapping against the stone ceiling.

Qwynn, looses two more arrows, but once more, distracted by the heat, they fly wide.

The dwarf warriors close rank and prepare for the next onslaught, holding the high ground.

Lumbering can be heard from below and a dwarf warrior grunts.

"Zombies too!"

Qwynn gets off his stone bed and tries moving it to block the passage to the stairs. He feels that retreating will only be worse than attempting to hinder the enemies advancement into the dwarven hall. Calling out to elven kin he says "Finwe! Help me move these stone beds. We must try and block the entrance into the halls." He wonders were is everyone. Shouldn't there be more dwarves?

I didn't ask before about these stone beds, but are they built in or movable?

If they are built in then I might use my round to go get those kegs and roll them down the stairs; a mini-Indian Jones temple trap.

Also, are there no falling trap here in this dawrven hall entrances? We encountered many in the lower hall that were recent additions, wouldn't they reinforce their home before making the effort to trap the lower halls?

Actually, I have a better idea.

With that he steps up behind the dwarves and chants again. This time a small grey ball shoots from his hand, down the stairs. Like the fireballs it explodes, only this time the hallway is full of webs, blocking the entire hallway and catching some of the zombies and skeletons.

Baldin is surprised at the other's response to the wall, having expected the idea of being able to buy time plus disorient their enemies to be well received. 

Yohan's sprint and rapid return through the wall cause the cleric to halt his plans. He mentally dismisses the wall, as requested, while bending down to heal the fallen paladin.

*REVIVES*

Yohan opened his eyes and took a breath as Lathandar's light brought him back from the brink of death.

He had seen terrible things and suffered terrible wounds as the Soldier of Light walked through the Wall of Light to confront the large dragonkin beyond. For a moment Yohan was disorientated as he lay upon the cold stone floor behind the wall of dwarven warriors. He flinched as if expecting a blast of dragon breath or some such area attack upon everyone.

"Praise Lathandar, the Giver of Life" Yohan responds after Baldin heals him, and immerses himself in his faith to heal his wrecked body and return his resolve to do battle. He stands wearily with a new found respect for the challenges they face coming from the Abyss beneath them.

"There is a mighty force before us down the stairs ... I saw many undead Orc zombies and skeletons crumble to dust ... and sensed magic cast upon me from far below. There are archers guarding a magic user."

Yohan clutched his silver holy symbol wrapped around his wrist and looked for his heavy mace.

As the wall of light snaps out Daltin is unable to control himself any longer and with a roar lets the rage consume him as he launches into the air and onto the nearest of the draconic warriors.

Group A


The skeletons, the decaying skeletal remains of orc warriors by the looks of their hunched bodies and large falchions, step forward with surprising agility and slash at the dwarf guardians. One behind the front line throws a javelin at them too, but it flies wide. One falchion finds its mark however and another dwarf warrior is laid low with a painful cry.

Finwe acts fast and completes another incantation. This one causes a ball of dark, sticky matter to appear and rapidly expand within the stairwell, engulfing many of those upon it and soliciting gasps and cries of dismay from below. The translucent scythe that had hovered beside the large spiritual hammer vanishes from sight instantly.

From down the stair, beyond the large strands of spiderwebs, chanting can be heard again, though without visible effect.

The cultists can be heard struggling below with the tightly knit strands of arcane webbing.

Qwynn runs off to grab some barrels.

Meanwhile, one of the zombies closest to the top of the stairs manages to tear itself free of the webbing and advance further up behind the skeletons...

The lone dwarf warrior slashes at the nearest skeletal warrior and almost cuts the bones in half, snapping many of them with his mighty waraxe!

Group B


Dolan hesitates, the wall of light still blocking his view.

Baldin utters a brief supplication to the Morninglord and sends healing energies into the limp form of Yohan, which immediately twitches and throw its eyes open. The wall of light suddenly vanishes.

Daltin looses no time and enters a rage, causing even the hardened dwarf warriors to take a half step back, giving him some space. He immediately lays into the hovering draconic warrior and slices a wide gash in its hide.

The draconic warrior returns the favor, lashing out at Daltin with both claws and feet at the enraged warrior giving his personal safety little thought. One of the clawed feet find a perch and rips into Daltin's shoulder.

Yohan finding himself revived, call the Morninglord's powers to channel some more healing energies through him, feeling them burn away his wounds. He grabs his mace and slowly drags his armored body to its feet.

A spellcaster down the stairs finishes a brief supplication and a semi-translucent black scythe manifests before Daltin and the dwarf warrior beside him, swiping at the dwarf warrior and drawing blood.

The draconic beast before him tries to bite at the dwarf warrior, but misses its mark, groaning in an unnatural fashion.

Beldas shouts out again.

"Hold the line! Aim at the dragonkin!"

As he speaks, another caster can be heard completing an incantation from down below and a coruscating ray of dark energy zips up and flies just shy of Daltin. This is followed by an audible cussing.

The draconic beast before Daltin tries to bite him, but it too cannot find his thigh.

The cultists loose arrows at Daltin and the dwarf warrior beside him, a couple hit their mark, sinking into both warriors and eliciting a grunt of pain from the dwarf warrior.

The dwarves, Bettargh included, return the favor with a volley of arrows of their own and a slash from the waraxe of the dwarf beside Daltin. Most miss, but one arrow sinks into the hovering dragonkin and draws blood. He proceeds to rip the arrow out of his shoulder in rage.
