Which Module We Should Play

  1. 1. Well name says all really

    • Curse Of Strahd Introductory Adventure (Name says it all it's not AL, it works as prep for Curse Of Strahd Adventure) Pro's: Fast leveling 1-3, Con's: Necessary kinda cliffhanger)
      2
    • The Unquiet Dead (Independent. Another shortie with fast leveling (1-3 again) Three kinds of plot hooks you can decide at "session zero". No pro's or con's worth pointing out. Definitive Ending
      1
    • Defiance in Phlan (AL. Definetly possible to be shortest of the bunch depending on RP. it comes from 1 season as 1st module of the first adventure so it might show it's age a bit. Still, pretty good for beginers.

    • A City on the Edge (AL. This is a 1st module for Tomb of Annihilation adventure. There are likely those among you who heard/play or tried to play it in other editions. I contemplated should I include this one most of all, because it's almost as reviled as it is iconic. But in good conscience I couldn't at least deny you a taste.

    • Something is Rotten in the City-state of Dennmarsh (Independent. As previous independent 3 hooks to drow you in, moreover it's a 1st level staple. Seweres. Entire advenutre is set in sewers under the Dennmarsh. To the point he forgot to add the map for the city. But I think this was his first freebie so I think we can let it slide.

I have no concept how hard coding is but if they could make a site that feels more like a virtual table top with animated dice rollers and customizable miniatures then it would be a blast to play.

I figure that type of coding could be outsourced to different people or companies and then thrown into the site. I could be totally wrong on how that stuff works but I have seen some sites that have 3D terrain and miniatures. Sure there is a fee or subscription but everything has a subscription based nowadays.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong in my thinking, but I just figure with all advancements in graphics and apps we can see a really upgraded version of PbP.

I was telling a friend last night that the main page of this site feels like a flashback to AOL of Prodigy Online. Anyone remember that?

Well, that's more/less what roll20 and Fantasy Grounds are. Making that for PbP format? I don't think it would be sustainable. Now site is viable because it's literally forum but when we get into building some kind of graphic into it I doubt they could do it for free.

Sure, I figured that much. All that extra work would have an added cost to it, but I bet if they did a Kickstarter and offer that graphic stuff as an extra service with a subscription fee then that could be feasible. I guess in my head I'm looking at it like Mythweavers is exactly what it is and many would agree that they like it like that, and this new site is not really better than the original and maybe a step backwards, so if they are going to build something new then look to the future for sustainability and growth. Otherwise they are just going to have to do this all over again in a few years when other sites are already way ahead of the game and have taken away some of Mythweavers players. You need something special to keep the community engaged, and we already know what we are getting when we come to play on Mythweavers, so if you are going to make the effort to create something new it should WOW! the users and make them excited about the future of the site.

Part of the problem with the old site is that I think it was ‘physically’ getting too big for the current architecture. There was was no way to keep growing and expand. One the mods also said that it is kind of being held together by bandaids and duct tape right now, and that can’t last forever either, otherwise another system failure like a few years ago is an inevitability.

I see. That makes a ton of sense. Well I guess if this is what it has to be then so be it, right? That is too bad for the old site.

I wonder if they could clone the original and move all archived threads and forums there to help with the storage and usage issues. Or is that not a problem? I mean, the growth potential is stagnant at best. No large wave of new users are coming in and flooding the site with games, threads, and character sheets. There has to be so many old game forums just sitting in storage.

Friendly Notice: As a family man/teacher-in-summer my posting frequency will significantly be reduced until September.

I'll post when I can of course, but it will be more like an occasional drip as opposed to my normal roaring river!

I don't love the site so far either, but I want to reserve judgement until I get a lot more familiar with it. Right now i don't like it purely because it is change and I can't find anything I want to find and am confused by the layout, especially on mobile.

As for making it VTT. I agree that droves of people want that, but not those of us that enjoy the essence of what Play by Post is, which is writing and actual role playing. To me, playing in a live game on Roll 20 or Fantasy Grounds is an entirely different experience. They are fun but they are different and I see them as apples and bananas, two entirely different fruits.

Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to resize photos and float text around them?

BTW, I don't like this site. I think if you were going to make the effort of build a new site you should have started with a Virtual Table Top. That is where this hobby is going. Theater of the Mind is behind us. Just my opinion.

Building characters sheets should be either editable PDF sheets or other sources like DnD Beyond. The old Mythweavers really allowed for some nice creations.

It's standard HTML. This is what I used for the simple posting format for Builder:

The important thing about the image is this bit: <img alt="Builder" data-loaded="true" data-src="https://mwbaldrcdkstack-ipbuploads6f377ba5-6asvxg6ywium.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/monthly_2022_06/image.png.332d83f9aac1977a280f29cf3bdfaf95.png" hspace="20" src="https://test.myth-weavers.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" style="float:left;width:100px;height:auto;">

Ignore the alt text, the spacer, and cut the long string down for the image and you have this:

<img src="imgurl.png" hspace="20" style="float:left;width:100px;height:auto;">

style="float" means it float around the text. "left" means it sits to the left of the text. "width" sets the width of the image.
