Scrag paused, thought to say "that was my joke, aye" to Valeria, then thought better of it and kept his tongue between his teeth where it belonged. He knew better than to spit venom at his betters, and the woman had the look of money to her. Maybe? It was hard for him to tell, honestly. He'd never had his fingers on the pulse of high society when he had been counted among their number, he certainly didn't have a good feel for it now. His sense of the latest fashion was more than a decade out of date, as evidenced by the embroidered vests he still wore whenever he could get away with it. No, better to play the part of humble old Scrag, at least until he got his feet under him.

"I've... heh... the misfortune to carry the name Scrag."

He repeated the line to her instead, his usual when around folks he neither knew nor trusted.

"And we gots ourselves a stroyteller already, it seems."

He nodded towards Liniz.

"More curious if you know your way round that blade you got there."

His eyes were fixed on her rapier as he spoke the words. He was, at the core of his rotten heart, still a duelist.


"Eh?"

The Chelish devilkin had devoured the meal like it was the first she'd had in days, and was now proposing a drinking contest? He stared dubiously at his goblet, still not sure he trusted it. He looked for a basin of water, anything he could use to wash it out before filling it. If he couldn't find water, ale would do, swishing it around and pouring it out into the hearth fire. There was no way to do any of this inconspicuously, of course, so he just waited until their hosts were otherwise distracted and hoped for the best.

"I like the way you think, though ah... maybe only a few rounds, at least till after the ink is dry on whatever contract they got planned for us, no? Clear head and all."

He rasped, wrapping his knuckles against his temple.

Loogie looks a little taken aback when Valeria declares her adoration, perhaps declarations of adoration are a first for the little goblin. Collecting as much food as he can easily handle, he transfers his behind from seat to his construct bear tiger thingy. The transfer adds about a foot and half to how high off the ground he is, which is perhaps the point, around the hulking tiefling. Grimacing slightly, he replies.. "Haughaloogie doesn't as a rool recommend any of Haughaloogie's mates get intae an honour duel when the odds are even. Tha thing aboot fighting is ye hit the enemy when thay're no looking for ye. Yer life is too valuable tae leave to chance.", his tone apparently heartfelt. "Haughaloogie lost some of his best mates in Mivon tae honor duels.", he adds, continuing to refer to himself in the third person, while looking momentarily indescribably sad.

Valerie looks at Haughaloogie and gives him a smile. "Thank you for what you said but no need to go through the trouble. The shylenites around here already don't like me too much but they might be kind to you." Linizi smiles as she begins scribbling into her book. Though she doesn't noticed another individual. Coming to the table. The first thing noticeable about him is his purple hair and what can only be called a smug attitude. His nameplate reads Tartuccio. "Hello. I take it you all are here for the same reason I am. I am the magnificent Tartuccio. You may gawk at my glory"

He then says to the gnome with a bit of sarcasm, " hello you can honor us toochie by taking a seat and taking a drink. Although your name is not known in the wilds what great deeds have you done to welcome this glory"

Loogie, still on the back of his construct mount, finds himself two feet taller, and then some, higher off the ground than the gnome, and the halfling. Now n' then Haughaloogie finds Haughaloogie in just the right place at just the right time, he thinks to himself, indulging, even mentally, his propensity for speaking of himself in the third person. If Tartuccio had arrived a few chewed mouthfuls previous, there might have been some rivalry regarding height. Catching the glance from Druknar, and seeing where the hobgoblin is going with his opening sentence, he continues stuffing his face trusting Druknar to have the issue well in hand.

Synthy's raised hand, poised as if she was about to speak to scrag, when suddenly Tartuccio interjected himself. Her train of thought derailed violently into a incredulous but confused smile. Tartuccio stood before them as ten pounds of attitude in a five pound gnome. Shaking her head she'd compose herself when Druknar was faster, she paused as if in a moment of thought then smiled back. Lip nodding in approval, "I agree, regale us with some of your tales Lord Tartuccio," Contributing as well. Looking to Loogie with a smile she'd attempt to gently pat the goblin on the back.

Tartuccio beams proudly. He stands on his chair and clears his throat. Linizi looks a bit annoyed and Valerie isn't really paying attention to what he is saying. He small stature makes it so he's not seen over the top of the chair "Well I'm a accomplished spellcaster with a knack for finding flaws in systems and figuring them out. I'm from Brevoy and have spent a lot of time studying the regions and the stolen lands." As he talking someone approaches the table. Everyone had noticed her earlier kinda just standing in the corner looking like she was debating on joining. It's clear that she was listening on the conversation because she bumps the chair and knocks Tartuccio off balance causing him to fall of ballance. "Oh I'm sorry. Didn't see you in all your glory. I heard a buzzing sound and though it was a fly." She takes a seat at the table labeled Jaethal. She places a scythe to her side. She's got the typical elven pale sickly look to her

As more and more scallywags, tellers of tall tails, and general riffraff began to filter in, Scrag noticeably relaxed. The chances that this was some double cross intent on bringing him home (in pieces if need be) seemed further and further with each addition to the table. This was a mercenary company, if ever he’d seen one. Sellswords, or sellscythes with the Elf, getting wined and dined so that they could be talked into some fool’s errand. Wasn’t he a fool in need of an errand? With his cup washed out, he poured himself a glass of Chelish Red, and sat back to nurse his cups while he waited for someone to show up and tell them what they were all doing there.

Synthy would nod and was simply unimpressed, "So you've accomplished talking yourself up and failing finishing school? Things must be rough in Pitaxia." She'd pause holding her finger up turning back to Scrag, "Sorry I did get distracted, I love paper tigers. I agree, we should keep our heads clear for business. Contracts are pretty important and respected business even to a Chellish Daughter,". She'd pause tapping her lower lip for a moment as she'd consider lies and truths about herself, "I was an accomplished Ballerina, I was a trained Chellish Tax Collector/Barrister, and I was just very kind to Mr Tartuccio," She smiled a teasing grin, pouring herself another drink of some watered down wine.

Haughaloogie, was meanwhile helping himself to the liquor, the idea of something just fermented, basically scum taking a dump in water, revolted him. Liquor was distilled, pure and it went down like liquid fire. Suddenly he looks in the direction of Valerie, whose enemy he'd just volunteered to take out back and beat several shades of shit out of them.. "Hey boss, ah cannae help but notice an unending stream of folk just traipsing up, ye know when the mood takes them... or mebbe just for shits and giggles."

Apparently not wishing to completely insult the gnome and the elf, he raises his shot glass in silent salute to both, before bringing his feverish goblin gaze and shit eating grin back to Valerie.

"Ah mean, ah we goin tae the Stolen Lands or are we organizing a mass exodus fae Brevoy?", his goblin sarcasm very much on display. "It's just getting a 'more people are leaving than staying' vibe, if'n ye take my meaning. Seriously, whose frigging coming next.. frigging Tar Baphon, friggin Aroden?"

Druknar smiles and nods at Tucci answer along with the Cheliax teasing comments. He is hoping this charade would be over soon. The idea of getting drunk and doing something foolish would be bad. Then the elf walks in. She is interesting though as she does not seem to have the aloof scholarly type and not dressed in the typical woodland elf garb either. She carries a scythe that's something new. He gets up out of his assigned seat to stretch and see if he notices anything else unusual

Druknor takes his drink and walks around the table to avoid yelling and approaches this pale skinned elf. named Jaethal. He says, "hello names Druknar , nice choice of weapon. So you are here for whatever this ceremony is supposed to be. Not sure about hero stuff but as long as the pay is good it works for me. "

He lowers his voice " I know you seem proud about serving the Pallid Princess but others may take offense. Don't worry I judge people for who they are and not about style, wealth or privilege's."

Time to do some digging then. He picked idly at his plate with a knife, skewering pieces of chicken and root vegetable and eating them off the tip of the blade.

“You lot seem to have quite a bit of ken to the eh... the purpose of this little gathering ”

“What exactly are we all here to... heh... to do?”
