Ashera Grequinal

When the bolt came sailing from the east, Ashera jumped back slightly to make sure she wasn't in the line of fire.  Looking around, she found a few large-ish blocks of stone that she could potentially use as cover, and she dashed out to get behind one as quick as she could.  And when she was secure behind one, she pulled out her secondary sling and fired a stone towards where the bolt came from, hoping she could hit...well...something.

Thoridin unlimbers his shield and holds his longsword at the ready.

Should we want to advance into shock combat against those ruffians, I say we throw forward and set alight a flask of oil or two. It could put our foes to the torch, and the thick oily smoke will surely screen our advance. Between smoke, shield, and armor, I reckon we could clear that gap more or less unharmed.

Keep up the potshots. I wager your chance of hitting someone is pretty slim, sure, but we can always get lucky, and it should keep their heads down and distract from our friend's advance.

Tala Silvergrave

It all goes sideways with remarkable swiftness - the bolt, the dwarves advancing without plan nor heed and the rest scattering afte, slingthrowers taking flank and rear and the scout looking to if not making for the wall - coordination coming only pell-mel upon the heels of that first momentary confusion.

Lurching forward with a surprised grunt, Tala fought to catch up and keep her place in the vanguard line, great shield held before her like a wall though she knew it not to be so.

"OI!"  Tala finds her voice after the first few steps.  It's not going to work.  It CAN'T work but the talking keeps the simmer of her own fear at bay and if it distracts her it might well distract them, buying them the time and pace to get nearer 'fore the next bolt flies.

"If your name be not Bargle we've no quarrel lest you make one; there's no coin in your skins and there's both gold and justice in his.  Stand down and step off or end up like the beastie buried before the gate.  And if you doubt our chances, considers yours.  It'll take blood and bone to drive us off - how much are you willing to offer up to the Gods or spill on the earth for his'sake?"

"Whereas if you stand down we might well come to talk rather than blows, and if the talk of Bargle and this keep be good enough there may well be coin in it for you.  So ask yourselves, do you seek to pay the iron price or rather do ye wish to live to seek silver?"

ActionsAdvancing abreast with the dwaves/Stoyan - if I understand their declarations right they're moving forward so formation unity trumps the rather interesting and fun plans Tala was hearing . . . - AC 2 w/ Shield, Move 60' (20') HP 4 / 4  Hands: [Mace] / [Shield]

Golon

Golon was looking at the outer wall of the keep planning a route to the top when the other members of his party surged forward firing slings and crossbows at the unseen enemy.   The young man waited until it was just him and Tala before running forward to find some cover behind.  Trying to hide himself in the shadows as much as possible and move unseen by the foes now firing crossbows at the group.   Crouching in the shadows Golon readied his sling placing a smooth stone in it's strap.

ROUND 1

The dwarves form up a front line, advancing using the cover of the rubble with Tala, Ashera, and Astrid coming as a second row and Golon bringing up the rear, skulking through the shadows along the base of the wall.

Five of the dog-headed creatures, each holding a crossbow, have likewise concealed themselves among the stones and are preparing to launch another volley. A better-armored one, perhaps the leader, barks out orders in yips and growls. Four of his followers are apparently assigned to hold the front gate, but at the sight of an intrusion they each draw short swords and prepare to defend themselves.

Stoyan's bolt strikes true, felling the kobold on the south end of the line. The stones thrown by Astrid and Ashera fall unfortunately short, skittering on the hard-packed earth.

The volley of crossbow bolts is mostly poor, both in quality and in aim. One succeeds in striking Stoyan, nicking his left shoulderStoyan takes 1 damage..

It is now ROUND 2. Characters are using the cover of the stones and can proceed forward at half their normal movement rate, with a -2 penalty applied to missile rolls against them.

Golon

Golon crept in the shadows along the wall trying to stay hidden from the howling dog faced little creatures.  When he found a pile of rubble from the collapsed wall he fired off his sling and then hid behind it.

Tala Silvergrave

Even at a dead sprint she couldn't have covered the distance - all a run would profit her was a swarming death by the mongrel dog-things as she caught her breath.  So instead she did the hard thing, letting the bolts come as she kept the pace of the advance with her shield up and not breaking stride or a faltering.

Ashera Grequinal

The Kobolds were now out in the open, and Ashera saw that they were outnumbered.  Even if they were stronger than the Kobolds one-on-one, it would be folly to sit here and continue to engage them when they had the higher numbers.  And she had just the right trick to, hopefully, help turn the numbers to the group's direction.  She stood up slightly, her hands waving through the air, arcane words emanating from her mouth, the fabric of magic folding in upon itself as a spell to put some of the Kobolds to sleep wafted forth.

Better to brave the distance in a single sprint than to slowly advance, being peppered all the while, muses Thoridin. And with that, he gathers his courage and charges forward towards the kobolds at full tilt.

As Thoridin charges in, sword raised, the kobolds as one faintThose in the back can obviously see this is the result of the spell cast by Ashera. The other two dwarves may or may not have been aware of the casting action. and fall to the ground.

BATTLE ENDS!

It is now TURN 9.

Stoyan Barakovsen

"The werewolves might be faking," Stoyan puts his crossbow away and rushes into combat.

"A foolish choice if so!" As soon as he reaches the closest he cleaves its head in with his axe.

Golon

Golon views on with horror as Stoyan charges forward cutting off heads of the defenseless kobolds.    He rushes forward calling for the slaughter to stop. "Stoyan stop! Can't we just tie them up."  Thinking quickly the young man adds "It might be good to keep them alive for questioning.   Especially the leader."
