Dejrik Garraksen

Dejrik furrows his brow and checks the two weapons on his belt, before turning to Stoyan.
"He swore on my mace, didn't he? To behead something with a mace is no mean feat ... what kind of savage does h- ah ... right ... right ..."

Dejrik adjusts uncomfortably in his armour. His eyes watch all of Yorp's subtle movements, from finger positioning to shifting weight, yet he doesn't seem to be focused on it, his mind in this moment all too present yet a thousand miles away.

Stoyan Barakovsen

" You could knock his  block off, maybe," Stoyan suggests, "Big head, thin neck. I think it would be possible."

As if they were talking about a game instead of a living creature, the dwarf ponders the problem, "Or you could borrow my axe."

Yorp the Kobold

"Being...uhhh, what is 'Common' word? Talk like singers, close enough words." Yorp makes a little grunt of effort, wrapping his padded fingers around the base of the left-door's ring, keeping clear of the inside of the handle, while he braces his feet on the right-side door, further down from the handle. Then, straining his core, he pushes, hoping the whole left ring doesn't drop him into a pit or some other such thing. "...and crush head or chop head really not matter to Yorp, want to skip both about same."

Yorp satisfies himself that there are no traps, deadly or otherwise, on the door. He clearly has no foreknowledge of the door's condition, because his straining efforts yield immediate, smooth motion as the door swings inward and he is swung bodily into the room, dangling from the ring he has so firmly gripped.

The entry room is 30' x 40' and largely bare. Empty doorways are in the middle of the east and west walls; the doors are missing. An ordinary wooden door is in the middle of the north wall. The room contains some trash and rubble indicating use, but nothing large enough to conceal a creature.

The sunlight from outside illuminates the central third of the room, but the west and east thirds are shadowed. Light sources will be needed to proceed deeper into the building.

It is now TURN 17 (accounting for trap searching and opening the door).

Construction notes

Unless otherwise described:

  • All walls, ceilings, and floors are made of stone
  • All walls are 10' high on the inside
  • All areas are dark; characters must carry light sources
  • All rooms will be described first by size (N-S/E-W), then by exits, and finally by contents

LANTERN TURN 1 OF 24 [TURN 17 OF EXPLORATION]

Tala Silvergrave

"Oh thank Freya . . ."  the rest of Tala's relief is lost in the quiet clatter and clambering noise of Yorps testing/prodding of the doors, accompanied by the noise of her own backward retreat from Yorps flailing and warning paws.  Standing back while the kobold goes about his work, she does not set the shield fully aside as she watches - keeping ready in the event Yorp proved mistaken or the contents of the rooms proved dangerous.

"To clever hands and cooler heads; you've my gratitude Yorp.  And here's to both our heads staying uncaved, unbowed and unbloodied for the duration."

As the door opens, Tala squared up beside the dwarves, ready to receive a charge that doesnt come and then, in the absence turns her eyes to the shadows deepening the corners.

"I'll set us a light - while I do so someone with deft hands and keen eyes to the rubble pile, mayhap?   If some poor sod t'was caught in the rubble fall their might be something with the remains, should there prove to be any.  Alternatively we've already seen coin unearthed in stranger places."

Out of Character

Tala is going to light her lantern and load it with 1 flask of oil: should provide 4 hours (24 turns) of light within a 30' radius per the OSE SRD.

With the lantern lit, everyone can clearly see throughout the room. It also provides some light into the adjacent rooms through the empty doorways; there appears to be some furniture in both, but nothing moving.

Stoyan Barakovsen

"Let's have a look around, shall we," Stoyan enters and proceeds to do just that. He peers into the closest room first, axe at the ready.

Tala Silvergrave

Holding up the lantern in one hand, shield in the other, Tala pushed a metal-toed boot through the rubble pile before nodding once towards the western door.

"To the sinister path then?"

OOC

If Tala still has time this turn shell search the rubble pile before suggesting we try the western door.

The group searches the entry hall, but the effort turns up nothing. Tala brings the light over to Stoyan so he can peer into the western door:

This 30'x30' room has open doorways in the east and west. It appears to be a drawing room; the remains of three chairs and two small tables are roughly clustered around a fireplace in the middle of the north wall. The fireplace is empty, no wood or even cinders to indicate recent use. There are damaged triangular curio cabinets in the front-wall corners, the glass having been smashed out.

It is TURN 18 (Lantern: 2/24). Map updated.

Dejrik Garraksen

"What a choice of words ..." Dejrik mutters to himself.

As he wanders through the room, poking random pieces of furniture with the base of his shield, he moves up to the fireplace and kneels before it, studying the stonework and its lack of contents

"It doesn't seem like he uses this room for much. We should press on."

Tala Silvergrave

Tala shrugged once in Dejeriks direction and his examination of the fireplace.

"Be sure for check for loose hearth stones; when I passing notes in the abbey to - " Tala paused, at once aware of an accidental admission and the sobering, bittersweet revelation that the little red-haired girl had, in the span of years, seen her name lost beyond memory.  A sad smile playing across her face as she moved towards the curio cabinets " - a favored playmate, we used to wedge our missives beneath a brick where the mortar had crumbled.  Passed coins or trinkets at times, too."

Poking through the cabinets with the tip of her shield and lamp upraised, Tala's holy symbol glinted a silver wing catching lanternlight.

"How sharp are your ears, Yorp?  Might you attend to the eastern door?  'Tis the next logical course once our investigations are concluded."

OOC

Action: Tala is going to search the cabinets.

Stoyan Barakovsen

Stoyan was happy to trash the room looking for things of value but the drawing room looks to have been searched already and long abandoned.

"I'll stay on guard," he announces, watching the door to the west.

Yorp75.png.7a303146f67ae80eb33f14944460eb3a.png

Yorp the Kobold

Yorp, a little emboldened by his narrow escape (possibly, probably temporarily) from death, looks back at Astrid, then makes a helpless gesture. "You want me to jump around? I don't know. We didn't come here." Gentler than Astrid's gaze is Tala's words, and Yorp nods. "Ears work. Not sharp enough to cut meat, but sharp enough to cut silence." He pads as quietly as he can over to the Eastern Door and peeks around the corner, peering into the darkness there.
