Tala Silvergrave

Tala cocked her head.  Frowned.  That was . .  curious.  Bizarre, really.  And it hadn't challenged the obvious ruse: maybe magic of some kind, not a whom but a what?  She followed the train of thought: old children's tales of wizards and warlocks, with mystic bound servants and animated gargoyles in sway of their arcane masters.  Riddles all - they were stories after all - where they were bound by words and a facsimile of reason, simple though it might be.

"What if he was?"  it's a stab in the dark, spoken and she moves, mirroring Stoyan's hunt on the far side of the room.  "Bargle, I mean.  What would you say if he was with us?"

Despite the further entreaties, the voice remains silent. Tala and Stoyan work their way around the perimeter and then meet near the far corner, neither having seen a potential source.

Stoyan Barakovsen

"Blasted magic," Stoyan curses, "You can't trust it."

"As it doesn't seem to be harmful, shall we move on? Maybe if we come back later it will ask the question again."

Yorp the Lantern-Bearer

The party's lantern-kobold crouches on a crate, near the middle of the room. He holds the lantern high and watches that back corner, where the mysterious voice came from. "Maybe...maybe a better idea to go after...to finish your crusade first. I do not know what others wait, but making big noise could draw attention."

Tala Silvergrave

"Mine Lady of Fire would consider the matter of Bargle a mite personal - though there be coin attached, and I'm no so pious as to be blind to it or pretend it no enticement."  Tala frowned, tapping one of the crates with her shield, seeming to consider staving in the side entire with her mace before shaking her head.

"And at 1000 coin for his head - attached - I'd say it's business enough to make Yorp's and Master Stoyan's point.  There may be riches here but the noise in breaking them open would not be small and - " her eyes drift from crate to crate, and then back to the party, comparing the size of the first to to the burdens of the later.  " - could we e'en carry it, should it prove of worth?  I'd second coming back for it later  - mayhaps when we could afford mules from the sale of other plundered treasures?"

"Which raises where to next: Yorp, would you check the norther door? I'll keep watch should the voice return or reveal itself."

Stoyan Barakovsen

Stoyan searches out a small crate, "The sounds of opening a crate with an axe are no more than opening a kobold's skull with one."

"No offence, Yorp."

"I think we should give it a try," and if anything came to investigate, they'd smash that too.

Stoyan brings his axe to bear on one of the crates, and is surprised to find that the weapon bounces off the wood with no apparent effect! The loud clonk! of the impact echoes through the mostly empty rooms.

Stoyan Barakovsen

Stoyan checks the edge of his axe, "Unbelievable!"

"I hate magic. Let us continue. This mystery can be solved when we have our prisoner secured."

Tala Silvergrave

"Mayhaps if the magic be of Bargle's creation, his ending will abjure it.  Failing that - " Tala glowered at the stacks of crates.  " 'Tis always fire."

Moving to the norther door, the priestess knelt to listen at it before opening it . . .

Stoyan waits while Tala checks the door, swapping his crossbow for his axe.

"I'm ready."
