The Low Quarter (cont.)

Layna eyes the cup suspiciously, then turns her hazel glare to Byll. "So that's it? We're done here?" The biting sarcasm cuts through the still air of the underground chamber, unvoiced disbelief in such a simple success.

Astaban tucks the cup away for the moment, just happy someone else was impressed with his finding.  He looks to Byll, "I imagine there must be more here if we look about, no?"  He suddenly looks far more ready for another altercation, or more exploring than he had looked before the find.

"That is what you're being paid to find out." He said as he swept back around to examine the floor where he'd just been. "That cup is likely priceless and heavy with historical context. But it is not what we are after and therefore it is yours to keep."

From here, the group can either head north through the other door in this apparent former coronation chamber, or backtrack through the skull room to the west door that Astaban had found earlier.

There was no good way to know if more hidden items were resting just beneath a tile or brick, and so they would remain their for now. Byll relented that they were at the mercy of poor archeological preservation. The items they were after needed to be someplace they could see and know, everything else would be found on luck alone.

The elf nervously spun his sword in his hand. "Let's continue, aye?" His head nod was in the direction they were already headed, for now ignoring the split in their path that lie behind them.

Stowing the brand-new shiny cup in their pack, Astaban moved up alongside Byll.  His mood had changed a bit, was smiling now from ear to ear, ready to keep going.  "Maybe we will find more of these, it would be cool to have a set.  How many is a set? 6?" Astaban asked the question genuinely.  He had never had a set of drinkware before, nor did he think he knew anyone else that had a matching set.  Sure, his family had made enough carved cups for every person in the family, but he wouldn't call them a matched set at all.

Byll opens the door to the north, which seems to lead to what was once a private corridor for royals. This impression is given not by any lush furnishings–there are none–but the masonry is of above average quality, and the doors themselves are of single-piece construction, intricately carved with geometric patterns. There are three doors: one directly across the hall leading northThis door has five sets of square spirals, the center points of which form a larger cross shape on the surface., one immediately to the right leading eastThis door has circular designs upon it, crossing at regular intervals to create a pattern of pointed ovals and inwardly curved squares., and another at the west end about 30' away, leading southThis door is cross-hatched with triangles; each line is double-etched, giving a beveled appearance to the repeating shapes..

Regardless of how abandoned this place was, Byll had no interest in letter entryways directly behind him. If should have meant returning to the unopened door that sat outside the throne chamber, but for some reason it didn't right now. It meant not moving beyond the east door.

The elf put his ear and hand on the east door. He hoped the arrangement of doors meant this would be something of a storehouse. If it was quiet, he tried to open it.
