yo4.png.b7eb2755d17d798cc5c068f00fb94785.png

The sun is just peeking at the horizon. You can see its warmth brushing the dune peaks if you stand on the city's walls.

You aren't. That is, you aren't standing on the a wall admiring the sunrise. Instead, you are standing on a street corner in Armour Chapel. It's a very nice ward in the southmost area of the city. There's parks aplenty and big houses where the officers of the City Watch rest their heads. The streets are nicely patterned and there's plenty of clerical guards standing watch as a supplement to stern-eyed watch troopers. It's all very orderly and peaceful in here, very lovely indeed.

Ever so very coincidentally, you have business here, at the high class tavern called Yawning Pit (Or was it Yawning Abyss? Gaping Abyss?) that sits right next to a large sanctum of Osiris. The clergy are at work getting their sanctum back to business, and you see three of them sweeping the stairs.

BigBiz2.jpg.c8cf587f5212bdd9996f45d0e9c76236.jpg

All you have to do is stand up from your seat on this comfortable tree stump and get moving, cross the street and shuffle past a large wagon. Looks like a large group of greyhide goblins are moving a large smithery on wheels and one of the axels is causing them a delay. You think they'll get it done eventually-

Hold up.

Trouble's coming!

From your left, down the street, stomping angrily, you see three burly dwarves wearing armor. You don't need to do more than glance their way to know they are tightly wound and looking for an excuse to start throwing hands. You don't think the greyhides, being workers and wearing just clothes, will have too solid a chance against what are either trained guards or stout-bodied thugs.

You could stand by and watch things unfold. The clergy over by the sanctum are bound to notice.

Or you could do something about things yourself.

Choices Choices Choices~

Harlen leans casually against a house wall as he watches the approaching trouble.

"Well, what do you know, Shim?" he says to the small, twitchy-nosed creature on his shoulder. "It looks like something bad is about to happen to someone who isn't me. Or as I like to call it, 'free entertainment.' What do you say we make ourselves comfortable here and see if anyone gets any interesting bruises?"

Shim squeaks.

"Well, yes, obviously that would be even better," Harlen admits. "But I don't think I have either the time or the money to fetch a cheese platter..."

Sarai, Enchantress of the Veil

Veluna.jpg.f367ff00df46559b8526458567075889.jpg  AC 11, Touch 11, FF 9 | HP 5/5 | Init 6 | Fort 2, Reflex 2, Will 0

After several days travel across the desert sands, Sarai was ready for a hot bath and a decent meal.  She was pleased to discover that her destination was in one of the nicer sections of the city, so her prospects were looking up.

As she approached the Yawning Chasm (or was it the Gaping Maw?), she noticed the goblins, and she noticed the dwarves as well.  She'd spent years studying in a dwarven enclave, so she was familiar with the hot headed and impulsive nature of that race.

Their approach could mean trouble, so she called out to the little hummingbird flitting from bush to bush nearby, enjoying a breakfast of nectar from the numerous succulents that were so common in the desert.  Eyes up, Zila.

In years past, she might be content to stand by idly and watch things unfold, but she had begun to see things differently as she matured.  She no longer harbored any prejudice against other races such as goblins, at least not without good reason.

And so she moved closer to the impending confrontation, positioning herself to stay out of the angry dwarves' path, but still close enough to step in if it should come to that.  Her feathered friend zipped over to her spot and perched on her shoulder, looking around for any other signs of danger.

spacer.png Macsen Mistwalker

A tall and slender man with silver hair that hung across his face, wandered down the street, the sand kicking up as he guided his way through the hustle and bustle. Whistling a soft tune, garbed in an exotic attire, another oddity attracted to desert oasis called Sandpyke. Deftly moving passed the greyhide goblins who had begun to argue among themselves, Macsen nonchalantly made his way towards the inviting doorway of the tavern.

The approaching gang of Dwarves caught his attention, a grumbling group of pent up frustration as he had ever seen, they were going to be trouble. As much as he liked the entertainment of a bar room brawl, he himself was more of a gleeful spectator to such matters. Taking the opportune moment to step into a shadowed doorway, avoiding the coming confrontation.

Hmm those Goblins are certainly unlucky, one broken axel and now soon to be a few broken bones coming their way. Macsen pondered to himself, torn between whether this was to be entertaining or a little sad if it was to become too one-sided.

Pausing and waiting for the inevitable brawl to ensue Macsen glanced across the street curious to see if any do-gooder would intervene.

Emery Escue - Warforged Crusader

AC 16, Touch 8, FF 18 | HP 14/14 | Init -2 | Fort 6, Reflex -2, Will 0

The world had changed much since Emery had slept, and yet much of it was the same. Children played, businesses offered their wares, and trouble always came calling.

The trouble rolled in like a stormfront, and soon sure enough, it was likely to rain fists and kicks upon the goblins...but perhaps it was all a misunderstanding? Cooler heads than the ruffians descending upon the goblins were certainly needed. PROTECT THE INNOCENT.  The true question was who was innocent in this new strange world, and who not. As well as he could, Emery interposed himself between the dwarves and goblins, making it clear that to get to the goblins, the dwarves would have to deal with him first.

"Citizens! How may I help you?"

Shade was walking through the streets, staying to the sides. He was marveling and the size of this place. He noticed a group of goblins that had problems with their wagons. He had no love loss for goblins. He was about to cross the street into the Yawning Portal when he noticed the dwarves approaching.

I wonder if they are in a legitimate bad mood or are just a bunch of bullies looking for someone they can torment?

He decided he would stay where he is. There were several shadows and items he could vanish into or behind if need be. Then he sees the rusty suit of armor step out and confront the dwarves. He also notes that several others are starting to stop and watch.

He cocks his head to the side and glances at a man with a rat on his shoulder. He appears to having a conversation with it.

Takes all sorts.

He settles in to watch what happens next.

Sister Elektra. Healer & Elementalist

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=18, Touch=12, FF=16 / HP=9/9 / Init=2 / Saves: Fort=3, Reflex=2, Will=5

__________________________________________________________________________

Elekltra always felt free and renewed come the rising sun and today was no different as the holy woman found herself on business in the enclave of Armour Chapel, an upscale neighborhood located in the city of Sandpyke, as she looks for a local tavern that sits next to Osiris's temple.

Perhaps, however, such elation was about to change as the elemental cleric observed a trio of well-armed burly Dwarves stomping their way down the street toward a group of goblin workers who were busy repairing a wagon axle of a heavy load that they were in the process of moving.

Determined to prevent an unnecessary fight that seems to be brewing on the horizon, Elekta is a bit surprised when a Warforged places itself between the two groups and addresses the approaching Dwarves directly, however such act does give the member of the Stoneshoulder Clan the opportunity to act as well.

Making brief eye contact with Sarai to ensure that her elven friend has her back, Sister Elektra ignores the Warforged and trio of Dwarven ruffians and instead marches over the goblins and offers her assistance to get the cart axle working and the city's thoroughfare back in normal operation.

After all, this sector of the Burg was home to many senior members of the City Watch and, as such, would be well patrolled and certainly no place to start or get involved in trouble as Elektra sincerely prays that seeing a Dwarven Priestess assisting the 'greenies' might help avert a negative interaction between the two groups.

Harlen has an excellent view of things as they proceed. Meanwhile, Shim still insists that the morning is not complete without some cheese to nibble on. Similarly, Shade and Macsen both pass the scene by but not without observing that several individuals are in motion. And my what motions are set forth!

Sarai, being a pointy-eared elf and one who moves to observe the scene with caution, raises an alarm from the thee tense dwarves. First, a glare comes her way. Then, much like ripples in a pond that glare gives way to a hateful focus when those flinty eyes notice her features- and her ears. A moment passes and so does another ripple as one bulky dwarf rouses the two others into noticing! All three eventually halt their stomping gait to turn from sizing their oddds to fully look at Sarai.

It is a very unkind look indeed; full of ancestral grudges and old bitterness. What they plan next is left as mystery, though, as it becomes forestalled by a loud voice.

"Citizens! How may I help you?"

The tension among the three toughs ratchets up several notches. A visible quiver runs through their tensed fists. Beady flints flicker between the elf, and the metal man who now stands between them and the goblins. And then!

An angry sigh through gritted crawls out when, right behind the metal man, a dwarf - their kindred! - goes and aids the greyhides! Said nine greyhide goblins are at first very startled by Elektra offering to help. That an ancestral enemy dragon joins theiir effort is just about the ladt thing they expected and Elejtra can see that in their disbelieving eyes. A harsh bark from the easily identified boss - she's the one yelling the loudest at the others - gets them back to work hauling the smithery on wheels from the gate and to the side of the paved street where it will be in no one's way.

GobboSmith.png.35199fc9fb44e4378476a38a56461aae.png

"Grattituud," the she-goblin offers to Elektra in broken accent of Common. She's dressed to hammer metal, and looks about as comely as an iron ingot, but she tries to make a friendly face in respect of Elektra helping. The other eight mirror her in gratitude and dirtyness although none manage much in Common beyond crude "Grattituud, Grattituut."

Decensy has prevailed on the street. And oh does that burn these three.

Every single person on the street can see it.

As such, that the thugs turn and stomp angrily away without more than harsh "Pah!"

And with that, the smithery route is safe enough - for now.

You suppose you could venture into the tavern proper...

Unless you have other designs in mind first.

Sarai, Enchantress of the Veil

Sarai glances at Elektra as she walks past to help the goblins, a reassuring smile on her face, then shifts her weight to one hip as the angry dwarves take notice of her.  She holds her ground in the face of their glares, her smile turning to a playful smirk to hide her trepidation.  This might sting a bit.

The slender elf appears ready with a comment when suddenly an impressive specimen of a warforged, armed to the teeth, steps in first.  The tension shifts, and she relaxes her stance as the dwarves stalk off.  She then approaches the warforged.

That was very noble of you, good sir.  I am Sarai, of the Moonveil Elves, she curtsies in greeting, and this is my friend Zila.  She indicates the tiny hummingbird who trills something briefly before flying up to hover in front of the metal man. Yes, very brave indeed.

She likes you, Sarai smiles warmly up at the much larger warrior.  Pray tell us your name, brave warrior.

Sister Elektra. Healer & Elementalist

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=18, Touch=12, FF=16 / HP=9/9 / Init=2 / Saves: Fort=3, Reflex=2, Will=5

__________________________________________________________________________

When her fellow Dwarves express anger presumably at Elektra's offer of assistance to the goblins, the elemental priestess ignores their comments and lets her strength do the talking for her.  Putting her stout frame against the wagon, Sister Stoneshoulder's over-sized muscles ripple the length of her body like chiseled granite as female Dwarf strains against the extreme weight forcing it to move forward and off the road by sheer will power, with the help of the goblins of course.

Smiling when the task is quickly complete, Sister Elektra is thankful to the gods that they were able to get the blockage off the road and also avoid an altercation with her distant kin.  Grinning and nodding affirmatively when the goblin leader and group offers their "Grattituud," the bard merely says, "Another Day," and gives a slight nod of the head before returning to her business and leaving the goblins to their own affairs.

As she returns, Sister Elektra meets up with her friend Sarai who is already engaged in a conversation with the Warforged who had helped to save the day.  When the musical minister arrives, she says to the mechanical man in a lowered voice in common, "Thank you.  I'm Sister Elektra.  Good work," she adds with a sincere smile as the bard joins in on their conversation and listens with true interest.

Seeing everything was over Shade walks out towards the growing group around the tin man. He shakes his head as he notes who was in the middle of the almost mess. He walks over and suddenly appears next to them as his small size meant he was hidden by all the big people walking by.

Hello Elektra. Figures I would find you right in the middle of everything. Hey Sarai. And yes you too Zila. So? What brings you guys here? and who is your large metal, rusty friend?

Macsen watches from the doorway as the scene unfolds, anticipating a short-lived bout of brutality, however the introduction of the large, metal man?, certainly threw things off kilter. Bemused, Macsen gives a sly grin as the Dwarves anger dissipates at the first sign of an actual threat.

As the Dwarves march off in search of something else to vent their short fused anger at, Macsen slowly approaches the group that has gathered within the street. A strange group indeed.

"Ho, their friends, that was indeed most brave of the lot of you." Macsen approaches, swishing his robes about him as he does in a small mock bow. Striding up to the large framed wall of armour, Macsen slaps the back of Emery, regretting instantly as his palm begins to sting from the solid frame. "Ooff, heh, I don't blame those crude men, you would frighten even dragons with your appearance."

Macsen raises his eyebrows as the small gnome that appeared among them speaks. Where did he come from?

"Well aren't we an unusual bunch. Don't quite fit the decor of this splendid city, all here for a quick drink at the Yawing Abyss?"

As they stand huddled together, Macsen scans the street watching the greyhides as they continue to thank their rescuers. A tingle at his neck warned him something felt off; unsure Macsen scans the street and pays close attention to the goblins.

Emery feels a pang of...longing? His mind wanders briefly to his escape from his watery tomb. The skulls on the floor, the crushed remnants of his kith. He had...comrades? friends? and he missed them. Emery looks at the group gathered, he has barely met them, and yet...they seem right to him. The Broken One works in mysterious ways, and no doubt this gathering is a blessing of his bravery and a sign of the way to come.

"I have no need of drink, but I would join you in libations, it has been a long time since I have shared a drink with...friends."

The last word is said a bit sheepishly.

The diminutive familiar would land on the offered finger, swiveling her head around to observe the others approaching, then takes a few hops up the metal arm to rest on the hulking shoulder of her new friend.  Pleased to meet you, Emery Escue.  Zila lets out a few short chirps at Sarai, who laughs a delicate laugh in response.  Of course we can't keep him.  He's not our slave.

She nods at Elektra as the dwarf returns from helping the greyskins, then flinches slightly as a sneaky whisper gnome suddenly appears in the group, one who apparently knows her, or knows of her, though she can't remember from where.  She glances sideways at Elektra with a sly smile and a raised eyebrow.  Friend of yours?

And before the dwarf can answer, a fancy looking human male joins them.  Funny how they all come out of the woodwork after the danger's past.

As the discussion turns to drinks, Sarai turns back to Emery.  You are certainly welcome to join us, sir.  We have business in this tavern, and you seem like you have a story to tell.  I'm sure we wouldn't mind hearing it, isn't that right, sister?
