Background/Origin

Christan's father was a Major in the US Army special forces. His mother was a Captain in the local police department. So he grew up learning all about duty and serving and protecting others. So, it was no great surprise that when he graduated high school he went straight into the military. He served eight years in the military, Coast Guard police. He made it to E-8, Senior Chief Petty Officer and was on his way to a great carrier when the event happened.

He was part of a group moving in to arrest a group of what they believed where drug smugglers. They burst into the warehouse moving quickly to apprehend the smugglers before they could respond. He spotted two people run through a side door and he followed. He was surprised to find a weird high-tech lab and not a drug lab. He ended up in a gun fight with the smugglers, or whatever they were. During the fight he dove for cover under a table. The smugglers shots hit the equipment above and behind him and there was an explosion and Christan was engulfed in an weird blue gas cloud, which he ended up inhaling. It left him coughing and dizzy. The smugglers kept firing and he stumbled over to another strange piece of equipment looking for cover. As he placed his hand on the equipment, grabbing two handles on it. At the moment the thing exploded sending waves of energy through him and throwing him across the room and through a wall.

Miraculously he had no major injuries, but things had changed. He started noticing that he was getting stronger and could move faster. He went back to the warehouse to try to remember what all had happened. He didn't know why but he felt drawn back to the place. Searching through the rubble he came across what is now his shield. He was drawn right to it, like it was a missing piece of himself. He remembered the shield, having a memory of grabbing the handles on it just before the explosion. It had been a door on the equipment, but now it was perfectly shaped to be a shield. He took it home and hid it.

He knew he was not going to be able to keep his changes secret if he stayed in the military, so with his tour coming to an end he decided not to re-up. So, he got out and moved to a small town of Harkon, just outside of Olympolus. He has spent the last few months getting to know his knew body and practicing at helping the local police deal with the crimes in the area. It was through these actions that he was introduced to a tailor who actually specialized in making suits for supers. He used most of the rest of his severance pay to purchase his suit and get his shield painted to match. He did this all as Aegis, so the tailor has no idea of his true identity.

And now, with the Crusaders missing in action and the Crusher's crime rampage, he has been contacted and asked to come to Olympolus and become part of a team of heroes to try to fill in for the Crusaders until they return and stop the Crusher's.

Personality

Aegis is all about protecting others. He will willing place himself between civilians or teammates and danger, relying on his shield and enhanced abilities to protect him from the impact. His speech and actions easily mark him as someone with military and even law enforcement training. He is all about teamwork and so has no problem working with others. While in costume he does not share much if anything about his past and prefers to stay professional. To some that might make him cold and emotionless, but that is far from the truth.

Titan grew up as a single child in a loving family. His mother is a teacher in an elementary school while his father is a software engineer. His family background provided enough for him to learn to be a team player and show the importance of being able to rely on. He was a linebacker in the high school football team, and some years later he frequently organized extracurricular activities for his peers in college.

One night, while walking home alongside , a reckless driver hit him - he woke up in the bush not far away. But what was rather curious, there was not a scratch on him, his body just resisted. At that point he realized he was destined to be more, now that he saw his body accumulated to the damage taken. From then on, he started taking on heavy weight lifting and slowly he discovered his other wondrous abilities - seemingly, his body responds to extreme workloads extremely well, making his utterly resilient and strong at the same time.

A few years later he has taken the mantle of being Titan, the unstoppable hero. And he is here to stay.

PERSONALITY:

Owen Flynn, a.k.a Titan is a rather easygoing guy despite his robust looks. He is serious about the job, being a Hero - he wants to stand up to the people, show them they're safe, now that he is around. On the other hand, Owen is a humble and loyal man - loyal to his friends, teammates, and above all, his family (loving wife and daughter).

He is not the most chatty one around, but whenever someone needs an an to listen, Owen is your guy. Be it in a café, or out in the field, you can count on him "to get it done".

THE MONITOR

Mitchel Green grew up a happy boy in a happy home. His parents could only have one child so they gave him all the love in their world. He lived a very idyllic life of wealth and comfort, but he was sick with a rare disease that would eventually shut down all his motor functions and leave him a prisoner in his own paralyzed body. Upon learning his fate he threw himself into new-age spirituality to try and heal himself with only the power of his mind.

Not achieving the results he desired he turned to new scientific frontiers to ensure his future. By incorporating the wisdom of the ages with the technology of tomorrow Mitchel was able to develop an artificial intelligent consciousness that mirrored his own; in essence he cloned his biological mind to give birth to a digital consciousness that was connected to him through quantum entanglement.

Possessing a digital consciousness was only half the solution, the other half would be creating an artificial body to house that digital consciousness. Using his family's wealth and connections he was able to commission research into nanotechnologies that would create self-replicating nano-robots to create a humanoid body that was both biologically artificial and technological. This new body was so much more than human and when his digital consciousness was inserted into the new body it awaken powers in him he had only read about in his esoteric books. The power he had been seeking to help himself was finally found in this new nano-body.

Now that he had an artificial body to continue interacting with the world as he did before his disease manifested, he wanted to express his gratitude by being a service to his fellow humans. His new body has access to powers and gifts to need to be shared with humanity to make this world a better place. Developing a heroic persona called "The Monitor" he set out to become a watchful guardian of humanity.

COMPLICATIONS

Motivation - Doing Good
Possessing a strong positive outlook towards life allowed Mitchel to never succumb to the darkness of his fate, and when he was able to create an artificial body to house his digital consciousness he was nothing but grateful for the opportunity to continue living a 2nd Life. This feeling of gratitude and goodwill makes him want to share his thanks with others.

Motivation - Responsibility
Because his new body makes him more than human he feels obligated to use its abilities to better serve humanity for the common good. Never one to openly advocate violence he understands that force must be meet with greater force in order to stop it; though if he is able to find another solution he is willing to explore that first.

Weakness - Quantum Entanglement
Mitchel suffers from an incurable disease that has left his consciousness trapped inside his paralytic body, and because his digital consciousness is quantum entangled with his moral body if anything were to happen to his paralyzed body that would result in death would his digital conscious also share the same fate? It is unknown but highly plausible that both consciousness would perish. When the mortal body finally gives out it might also end the existence of the digital consciousness as well?

Complications

Motivation: Responsibility: Morgan is tasked with safekeeping earth from threats originating from other realms of existence, and as such has to deal with incursion from demons, fey, and other mystical and otherworldly intruders.

Motivation: Doing Good: Morgan has always held an admiration of superheroes, and now that he has the tools to, he wants to help out and live up to the examples that he admired in his youth.

Identity: Although Morgan isn't the most secure with his identity, he still endeavours to keep it hidden from the general populace, and his enemies in particular.

Family: Morgan still lives with his parents and two younger siblings, all of whom have varying ideas of what he is up to.

Young And Reckless: Morgan is very new to the hero scene, and is very inexperienced in the use of the Keystone, while still being aware of the sheer amount of power he has access to. As such, he's prone to take risks he shouldn't, and is likely to either land in more trouble than he can handle, or to create or exacerbate a problem.

Enemy: Society of Cunning Men:  A secretive criminal organization of the rich, powerful, and influential, keen on expanding their powerbase. All members practice magic with various degree of skill and power, and they heavily favour summoning demons, elementals, and sundry eldritch horror to do their bidding, which is what has put Custodian at odds with them.

Didn't Come With A Manual: Although the intellect spirit that came with the Keystone offers Morgan with a vast library of magical knowledge, Morgan has yet to figure out how to access it effectively, and while the Keystone offers theoretical access to the Earth's wellspring of magic, he has had no training in practicing magic or spellcraft, and is not really capable of using magic beyond the most basic applications of the Keystone. Any time Morgan wants to use a Power Stunt, he is is vulnerable for the round (as per the Distracting flaw) and must make a Expertise: Magic check (DC15?, as per the Check Required flaw) to successfully pull of the Power Stunt; if he fails this check, he wastes his standard action.

Reputation: Although Morgan has only recently taken up the mantle, the Keystone and its wielders have been around since the beginning of human civilisation, in one form or another. While rarely known to the general public, the Custodian of the Earthly Realm is a known factor in supernatural circles, especially those that deal heavily with outsiders (and, in fact, outsiders themselves), although said circles opinion on the Keeper will vary wildly on a case by case basis.

Work Acquaintances: Not long after Morgan found the Keystone, he was contacted by the Archivists (which Morgan is fairly certain isn't their actual name), a group dedicated to the safeguarding of magical artefacts. They had been rather keen on getting their hands on the Keystone, and were somewhat put off that a random teen had gotten their hands on one of the most powerful artefacts on the planet. But, since Morgan was both unwilling and mostly unable to hand it over to them, and the Keystone serves a rather vital role in the safety of earth as a whole, they begrudgingly stopped pressing the point and started working with him, though this mostly came down to giving him some occasional advice or information, and half-demanding he help out whenever one of their vaults was targeted.

Star Struck: Morgan grew up admiring the various superheroes active in Olympolis and beyond, and even now that he is ostensibly their peer can't shake this feeling of awe and reverence.

Okay! Glad everyone made it (almost). Sarcasticfury is MIA but we're pressing on: the IC forum is up and players can engage when ready! Let's have fun!

Questions? Don't forget we roll dice on this forum not on the IC forum.

I'm ready to start, thank you. Should we create individual topics, or one more generally named? If the latter, what is the recommended name? If the former, I'll just name it by date.

I'm sorry if this should be obvious but this is my first PBP game and I aim to do it correctly. :)

Okay, I am laughing to myself right now. I am reading a superhero series right now and I borrowed the name Aegis from it. The laughter comes from the fact that Aegis is the replacement and son of the recently past major hero named Titan.

Just realized I did not give him wealth 1 like I had planned so was wondering if you would be okay with me modifying a couple of skills, reducing them and taking the benefit advantage. Was also going to give him a few ranks is Knowledge - Art and he was going to pretend to be a struggling artist, claiming that his money comes from paintings he has done and sold. This way he doesn't have to worry about his work schedule.

So it won't change anything with his powers, just help fit his cover story.

I'd rather you didn't change anything: art and money won't matter much for this quick adventure 😉

Good point! :) I also enjoy that series, however, my Titan is an hommage of a different character (the one in Super Powereds, if you know that series).
