Seeing that the group was mildly lost, but not feeling as though it was too much of a tragedy, the cryptic sat on the earth sled and after pondering for a bit began to carefully set up a small space for tattooing.

Rolling out a tool kit, he first observed the almost negligible motion of the sled as it shifted direction; watching a selection of shimmering powders for any jiggling or settling. Entirely focused on the task at hand he neglected to comment on the conversation- preparing his needles and mixing up a fresh batch of ink by adding a carefully measured amount of the shimmering powder before gently swirling it within the phial.

Finishing the layout of his tools, he rolled up the sleeve of his travelling clothes to reveal a bare patch of skin on his forearm. Focusing on the power he wished to encode into a tattoo, he began. Dipping the tattooing needles into the specially prepared ink and focusing his cryptic capabilities, he spend the next several hours at his craft.

Stopping only briefly for lunch, the kalashtar returned to his task- anyone observing could see that he was utilizing a bit of psionic power to give himself a helping hand here and there to compensate for only having one arm available at the time.

As the sled stopped for dinner and to give Antonio at bit of a break, the kalashtar was wrapping up his tattoo, finishing expending the psionic energies into the new pattern on his forearm.

Tattoo Crafting Mechanics

Crafting attempt:
Scribe Psionic Tattoo
Power: Metamorphosis (minor) | Power Level: 1 | Base power points cost: 1
Tattoo Manifestation: Manifester Level 1
Chosen effects for the tattoo: +2 enchantment bonus to Dexterity

Cost: 1 Power Point and 50gp (power is a "range: personal" power, so base cost is doubled)

Check to scribe the tattoo: DC 6 (5+ML 1) Spellcraft or Craft (Calligraphy)

Both would lead to an auto-success.

THE MISTS OF THE MOURNLAND

Chapter 1 Part 4: The Mists of the Mournland

attachment.php?attachmentid=107446&d=1666692701

With nobody else having any luck moving the Earth Sled, Antonio settles into the normal evening tasks, making camp, preparing the evening meal and eating it and then leaning against the sides of the sled to make notes in his book.

Conversation turns to the weather, "It does rain though sometimes it isn't rain but something much worse. It's pretty easy to recognise when it is raining blood or acid though."

He unrolls his bedroll but wanders the camp before he goes to sleep, "I can keep a watch but I'd prefer the morning watch. Bonesetter can obviously stay up all night. What's everyone else doing for watches?"

Looking around at the others, he considers his response.

"I suppose I could take the midnight watch. I have no spells or stuff to deal with in the morning and two 4 hour rests is almost as good as one 8 hour rest. Then again, I have human eyes and cannot see in the dark, like Nox here, so taking watch when there is light makes some sense too."

Roderick

spacer.png"I can't see in the dark either, but since that seems to be the case for most of us, I'll take whatever watch needs a body."

Shrugging slightly, Roderick spoke up as he gnawed on one of his rations.

"I do have an everburning torch as well, though in all fairness, being the only spot of light on the ground in the area probably isn't the best idea."

The earthsled bucks and Nox gets thrown off the steering contraption. She chuckles a bit with a smirk, she wasn't sure why but it was amusing to her. She playfully slaps the earthsled as if in response to it kicking her from the helm. The ranger certainly didn't expect to be able to control the thing, but it was a rather entertaining experience for her.

"I will take the midnight watch.", she offers as it is pointed out that she can see in the dark. It didn't bother her that she had to wake up and watch, she was a mercenary after all. She didn't care for where she was doing the watching of course, but was it really all that much worse compared to a war zone?

OoCI forgot to remove her spells. They are gone now.

Remi offers up his two coppers' worth, "I'll take first watch, and agreed, keeping light on at camp might not be the best idea. It will surely be a big invitation. Then again, we don't know how dark it gets at night here, or whether we'll any have light from the night sky in this wretched place..."

THE MISTS OF THE MOURNLAND

Chapter 1 Part 4: The Mists of the Mournland

attachment.php?attachmentid=107446&d=1666692701

There are enough of you to double up on watches. The presence of a warforged who does not require sleep at all makes it even easier as you divide the night between you.

Your first night in the Mournland is unerringly quiet. You have heard the children's rhyme, "Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse" but here in the Mournland that was literally the case. Every noise made by those who are asleep, every gurgling belly, every snore, every mutter from a dream echoes round like a shout. The wind, when it blows, seems to howl. Dead branches that move in this wind creak like the opening of a grave. If you speak to each other on your watch you feel as if you are shouting.

On the second watch, Nox, Terry, and Bonesetter watch a ball of fire roll across the gentle hills ahead of you as it makes a lone journey through the night. There is no indication that it knows where you are or has any interest in you.

In the morning, towards the end of the last watch, Antonio is scribbling notes in his journal to and leaving the warforged to keep watch himself. He hears a noise, a dragging sound, not very far from your camp. He looks around but sees only some boulders piled up in the direction he thought he heard the sound.

Bonesetter McCoy

spacer.pngDespite everything else, Bonesetter is, or was, a soldier. Sure, he could fuss and bother and wait to see what the sound is, but that pile of boulders would make good cover to attack the group from and he'd rather who- or whatever was making the noise found a prepared group than an unready one. His choice made, he moves to Terry gently rouses him with a quiet "I heard something, likely trouble." before moving on to Nox, aiming to wake the other soldiers first, then the others.

Terry, is normally a sound sleeper, but the Mournlands has him on high alert and he stirs (but does not awaken as he missed the roll by 1) with a muttered

"Whaa"

when he hears a noise out of the ordinary, if you can call any noise here ordinary.

Roderick

Seemingly content to leave dealing with whatever the issue was to the others, Roderick remained deeply asleep.

As the evening watch was decided, To'Nari did some sketching in his books before packing the last of his tattooing kit away.

Setting up his bed roll as the nature of watches was being discussed, he mentally commanded Xavier to keep alert over his respite, and to wake the Kalashtar in case anything was amiss.

Dropping into an almost trance-like sleep, the cryptic had odd dreams..

However his dreamscape was shattered as he was calmly alerted to the local disturbance by his crystalline companion. Carefully and slowly sitting up, the tattoos covering his skin began to glow with a soft blue hue, coalescing into a force field that disappeared as soon as it finished forming.
