In case it's not clear, Xza is not listening, he's succumbed to infection and will kill you all if you let him. Understandable to hesitate, but in game you'd have known Xzahl for some time, and through dangerous stressful situations (recall we were all teleported here together in the middle of such an event) this is wayyyy out of character for him. Does our cleric have any restoration spells or cure disease? I'm wondering how effective that would be since I would assume the residents of the island would have tried that at some point already. Or perhaps that is what our new paladin will be doing with lay on hands...
