Raffolk Ginsi Young HalflingRaffolk.png.aea14d6916111f7bf38a3c7d54e0d9a3.png

The young halfling listened to all the words that the Manticore had to offer. When the talk of his granny came up, the halfling sighed before his face lit up a little and he responded "You know, you might be onto something there. But the two feathers are one of our families' greatest assets, and with that Granny Pearla would never just give it to me on faith. But if enough gold were presented upfront and if she were convinced that my life was in danger. Maybe, just maybe."

Then Raffolk sighed and sit back again, "I admit that I have already asked too many favors from my granny to cover my gambling addiction and she has already literally cut me off. So, she isn't going to do me any favors."

"But Lord Monder was willing to buy the feather for 535 gold pieces, that is actually about double its real value. But the feather is rare, and I guess I talked it up pretty good." he then pulled out his pouch and counted his coins remaining "I have fifty gold coins to put toward the purchase of the feather from Granny Pearla. And I only need the 200 gold to cover my debt to Gulfa, and granny would sell the feather for 200 gp. So, if you guys would be willing t put up the 150 gp with my 50 gp, to buy the feather. Then we sell the feather to Lord Monder, I'll use 200 gp to pay off my debt and then you guys can have the rest." he explained.

Doing some quick math, "535 - 200 was 335, minus 150 gp invested, that leaves all of you 185 gp in profit for helping me out of the jam."

"Now, I am not asking for you to hand me any money. No sir, not in my situation. I would never do that. You can come with me to Granny Pearla's house and pay her directly. And then of course you can take possession of the feather until we give it to Lord Monder."

"What do you say?" he asked excitedly with the hopes of getting out of this mess.

I'll pass on that.

He notes that the halfling tries to weasel 150 gp into his pockets after this is all over even though he is only putting 50 into the whole deal. He shakes his head and hopes the others aren't dumb enough to fall for this little trick. It also makes him wonder if the feathers were real or if this is part of a con the halfling and bugbear were running. Someone starts looking too closely at the feather and the bugbear busts in and destroys any evidence before it can be proved a fake.

Egg finds himself intrigued by the whole situation, though even he finds it a questionable situation. The idea does cross his mind that perhaps this is all an elaborate game. He takes a more discerning look. Perhaps it's the whole story, or the burning feather, or just wanting to get swept up in it all. He finds it hard to get a good read.

"I'm still game if enough of us are."

What's the worst that could happen?

Yaldiled looked at the halfling. She didn't want an innocent person to be hurt. But she also didn't want to encourage him to gamble more, nor did she want to reward this behavior. But abandoning him would not be...she'd sworn an oath to aid those in despair. Very quietly, she says "I will put up fifty gold. But on your word, you will not gamble, you will not borrow more. I will not lift you up only to see you put yourself down in the gutter once more."

Gwydion regards the halfling as he makes his case, then watches as each of the Manticores makes their opinions known. He sighs as he regards the halfling, then says, "You may be an honest fellow. Either way, I'll tell you what I think. This has the odor of a scam. I swear, my friends used to run a similar scheme when I ran the streets, though they had a broken stick they claimed was a wand. If this feather is safe in your grandmama's clutches and you're an honest fellow, that'll be grand. I'll name you the most honest man I've met for the rest of my days.

"On the other hand, if this is a plan to part us with your gold, then I recommend you consider if the cheese is worth the trap. We kill people for a living."  He nods over at Harder. "Some of us even consider it a perk of the job."

He holds the halfling's gaze and lets that sit for a moment before continuing. "With that in mind, I'll contribute a share of gold to the cause. It'll only go to wine and the cards, otherwise."

Kythera wants to help. She doesn't want to see this idiot get killed by the bugbear. Yes. She thinks he might be trying to scam us but she also knows that we can take some precautions to make sure that wouldn't work. She shrugs,

"I think we should help him. But yes, Gwydion, prepare to run him through if he tries to cheat us. We'll buy the feather from your grandma and escort you to sell it to Lord Monder. If he pays the agreed upon price for it, then you'll get your 200 gold. Then you'll file destruction of property charges against Gruffa, we'll testify truthfully for you, and if you win, you'll split that money with us 50/50."

Raffolk Ginsi Young HalflingRaffolk.png.aea14d6916111f7bf38a3c7d54e0d9a3.png

When three of the Manticores agreed to chip in the small halfling was taken aback by the offer and quickly addressed Gwydion's concerns "I am never going to lay a finger on your gold." in says as he sits his own pouch of fifty gold on the table and slides it toward the rogue. "In fact, you keep my part as well, you can pay granny directly. That way I don't have a hand in the transaction at all. That way you know everything is on the level." he replied.

Ky then made the offer of the split of any coin earned from Gulfa from the property damage.  The halfling eagerly agreed. When Harder made his intentions known, the halfling swallowed hard as he looked at the man, and only nodded a response. The man was definitely scary.

"So, my granny lives in a small flat in the South District, I will take you there as soon as you are ready to depart, and we can see if she will allow us to acquire the other feather." he said politely.

Gwydion looks around at the others. "Did we want to finish our discussion, or are we heading right over to Granny's?"

He drops his hand heavily on Raffolk's shoulder. "Just keeping track of you, friend." He offers the halfling a smile and a wink.

Kythera knows we don't need to keep track of Rafffolk too closely yet. We haven't given up any of our gold yet. Once we do though, she suspects he might be trying to play us. But she also knows that we can track him down and get our gold back if we need to.

"I'm ready to go."

She nods over at Kharis, the dwarf who taught her to play Battlechess, both in thanks and goodbye. She knows she'll see him again here if he's a regular.

Egg smiles slightly, very amused by this turn of events. It may not be flirting with a group of strangers, but regardless of everything plays out, it should make for a good tale. "Agreed. I believe whether we end of gaining some extra coin or lose it all will greatly change where we end up planting some roots."

In his own mind, if it all turns out to be a scam, he's more intrigued than offended, eager for the chase to get the gold back more than actually catching the Halfling.

Then again... perhaps it simple is good fortune finding them this time?

CHAPTER ONE - BLOOD ON THE CROWN

After leaving the Lucky Leap, Raffolk led the Manticores across the river that split the city, and then down into the South District where the tiny houses were packed tightly next to each other in a mix of shapes and forms of all sizes. Most of the buildings were in moderate to bad condition, the streets were smelly and dirty. It was easy to get lost, but the halfling zig-zagged them through the maze of streets without issue.

Once arriving at the small flat of Granny Pearlea, Raffolk gave a rap upon the door and waited with the rest of the group for granny to answer. A few minutes later the door opened to reveal the old halfling woman, seeing the others with Raffolk the older woman stepped outside and closed the door behind her. She gave a stern look to Raffolk and said "What is the meaning of this? You in trouble again? Don't you bring your troubles to my door Raffolk Ginsi!"

Raffolk then pleads his case to the old woman, telling her of his unfortunate predicament, his debt to Gulfa, and about the Manticores, who were willing to pool some gold for him to buy the other feather from her, at fair market price of course.

The older halfling woman was not impressed as she scolded Raffolk for repeatedly getting into trouble as she once again opened her door and stepped inside, a moment later she turned back to Raffolk "You are just as irresponsible as your father was. Now get lost and solve your problems on your own!"

Raffolk pleaded "Granny?! Granny! You know you are the only one who can help me. Please don’t be so mean."

The old woman slammed the door in his face.... SLAM!!!!

Raffolk looks at the Manticores wearily, then knocks again.

"Go away!" Granny can be heard saying from the other side.
