Truth be told, Yaldiled was just happy to be in a world where things made more sense once again. Assuming no one involved revealed themselves to be a shapeshifter.

Baldur is glad everyone agrees and spurs his horse after Saara. He steers his steed next to Ru'ath's horse as they ride.

Forgive Saara for her bluntness, but she has a major mistrust of arcane spellcasters. At least until she gets to know them. I am interested, what is this method of scouting you spoke of? It might be useful.

Ru doesn't react at Saara's comment, she's been stared at and rejected by people far closer to her and even that barely caused a tear.

As Baldur rides up next to her she nods as he explains. "I cannot blame her. Many folk are concerned by my appearance when they first meet me. I didn't always appear so..." she replies, pausing as if lost in thought. Then she shrugs "...but I am no spellcaster. The changes left me with a few useful talents. For one, I can disappear from view, which can be handy in many situations!"

She feels strange sharing this information, though the dwarf seems quite trustworthy, but as to talking about the cause of her changes...well, that's something she's not willing to share. She has seen too many people react with fear and hatred.

Dungeons & Dragons 5e with DM BWatford


The group hastened towards their given destination, known as Old Grinder, a name bestowed on the place by the elderly cook. The dilapidated windmill, situated merely a mile away, loomed closer as they swiftly traversed the distance on horseback. As they neared the windmill, they maintained a cautious distance, wary of being spotted by anyone who might be on the lookout from within the mill.

The Old Grinder, perched atop a small hill, lay in ruins, its dilapidated state discernible even from the distance where the group was seated. The windmill's fan, missing chunks and ragged with tears, stood as a testament to its neglect. Constructed from hefty, robust stone blocks, the structure featured a pair of windows on either side of the upper level and a solid wooden door anchoring the ground floor.

It was undeniable that their approach would be visible on the hill and in the open. Additionally, they were leading four extra horses, along with the esteemed Miss Ivory.

Baldur observed that the walls appeared to be constructed of loose stone blocks protruding from the aged, slightly tilted building, suggesting they could be climbed with a moderate level of skill.

Ru'ath noted that, based on the arrangement of the door's fixtures, he deduced the front door was designed to open outwards rather than inwards, and he observed an old, rusty lock on it.

Amelia noted that the upper-floor windows opened outward and included a layer of glass, an uncommon feature for such buildings due to the high cost typically associated with glass in such settings.

At that moment, Ru'ath caught sight of it; a slender figure in a black, hooded robe glided past one of the upper windows. He thought the figure seemed feminine, or perhaps elven. The hooded robe made it difficult to discern.

They would need to exercise caution in their approach.

After studying the place for a few seconds he speaks up.

Unless we want to just rush the door and hope for the best, not a great idea, I think our best bet is to circle around to the backside of the building where there are not doors or windows and then approach the building from their blind spot. Then, as quietly as possible we make our way around to the door. Hopefully it won't be locked, but if it is, unless someone can pick the lock, we will have to bash the door in. Unless someone has another way to gain entrance. I mean it looks like the walls aren't that hard to climb. With all the uneven stonework there are plenty of hand and foot holds. But climbing is not something I am very good at.

Saara was generally quite rash, triply so when magic was concerned. When she gave her word on something though, her usual hot headedness was constrained by her fervent desire to see the contract followed through to the letter. They had agreed to bring Miss Ivory back, and while she did not fear for her own skin if they charged the tower, she didn't want to see the prize steed's hide filled with arrows. 

"A good plan, that. Seems you might have a chance to use your veils after all, if we need someone to get that door open."

She added as they dismounted, and set to work tying their steeds off.

"Climbing in mail is not the easiest," Yaldiled says. "Especially when one gets to the falling part. I'd say we try the door first, before we go for a window. I can bash if more subtle methods fail, although the issue will be if I make too much noise smashing my way through."

Ru nods in agreement as the group discuss sneaking up to the mill, and her heart rate raises slightly at the prospect.

Dismounting, she tethers her steed with the others. "Opening the door is certainly something I can help with." she responds, turning to Saara to add"...and veils or not, I'm a fairly stealthy type."

She pulls a number of picks from her hair, readying herself for the task ahead.

The group skirted the hill, and Saara secured all the horses to ensure their safety. After securing the horses, they approached the mill from a 'blind spot'—an angle devoid of windows or doors. Ascending the hillside swiftly and silently, they reached the rear of the old mill and pressed firmly against it. The initial phase of their plan had proceeded without a hitch.

Navigating around the side and beneath the window, the group reached the mill's front door. The wooden barrier stood between them and the interior. Ru'ath cautiously examined the ancient iron handle, only to discover it locked. The subsequent step promised to be the challenging one.

Pleased that their approach appears to have gone unnoticed, Ru quietly makes her way to the door and crouches down, eyeing the aging lock.

Then, choosing a heavier pick, she gets to work, tongue protruding from the corner of her mouth as she concentrates.

As the tumblers click open she gives a wry, half-smile. "Piece of cake!" she whispers.

"Solid work."

Saara whispered, drawing her arcane implement. It was a strange rod, slight and thin, that looked more akin to a curved and barbed spear than anything else. The implement carries a weight to it, a dread authority that was difficult to ignore.

"I suspect you don't want to be the one standing there when the door opens?"

She added, gesturing for Yaldiled to take the lead with her warhammer. Saara was just as good in the thick of it as she was at fifty paces, and so she could slip right behind the Dragonborn and still fight without getting in her way.

Mechanics

Yaldiled nods and hefting her warhammer takes the first steps inside, ready for anyone or anything leap at her. If so she'd give it a good walloping. Most thinking creatures tended to turn more agreeable after a solid blow to the head with a hammerhead of steel.

Standing just to the side of the door her hand closes around the small blood-red crystal that hands on a charm bracelet around her wrist, it glows a faintly purple hue between her fingers
