Brother Christo Vanleaf, Grey Elf Bard-Cleric

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=19, Touch=14, FF=17 / HP=19/19 / Init=2 / Saves: Fort=4, Reflex=5, Will = 6  ________________________________________________________________________

Knowing his friend's strength limitations as well as his ability to head off trouble with the twist of his fingers, Brother Christo says to the gnome illusionist, "Surgrin, will you please cover the outer door and chasm while a couple of us retrieve the dead orcs from inside the arrow slit room so we don't get bushwacked while disposing of the evidence, as it were?"

Once perimeter security has been established by his old friend, then Christo will get help to carry the corpses out, will use his dagger to 'true-dead' them, and finally will help dump the bodies down into the chasm so they will be much harder to discover, at least in the short run.

After the grisly task is complete and his dagger cleaned, the musical minister smiles and nods at Surgrin for the assistance knowing full well that the curious gnome will be itching to explore the new area and investigate the crude weapons and armor recovered from the skirmish.

Brother Christo is the last to rejoin the party in the arrow slit room, only after the Grey Elf closes the secret door behind him, locking it from the inside, if at all possible, to secure the party's rear flank.

Sugrin smiles and nods, waiting near the secret entrance with eyes on the courtyard. He watches as the others dump orc bodies into the chasm, trying to cheer them on a bit, since he wasn't much help with the lifting.

That's the way. Heave ho!

The orc corpses tumble into the darkness of the chasm, and after a few long moments you realize you can't hear them hit the bottom. The passage behind the secret door turns left and descends a staircase into a small chamber. Dim light from outside slants into the room through a series of narrow embrasures, posts for archers watching the entrance to the dwarf-halls. The room is littered with debris, cobwebs, and rat droppings--apparently the orcs posted here don't bother to keep it clean. Low quality hide blankets and gnawed bones from orc meals are scattered all over. There is a passage on the north side of the room leading into shadows.

Urd highly doubted that there was some secret treasure hiding about the webs and rat feces. Still, she did her best to stay alert.

"Gonna check that passage there...Gerbimble, ye wanna come behind me in case we need some of your 'friends' again?" The dwarf whispered before cautiously approaching the shadowy passage.

The passage leads north, past a row of arrow slits overlooking the entrance, going about 40 feet before terminating in a dead end. The end of the passage seems to have been used as the latrine by the orcs posted in the archer gallery.

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=19, Touch=14, FF=17 / HP=19/19 / Init=2 / Saves: Fort=4, Reflex=5, Will = 6  ________________________________________________________________________

When his colleagues begin to explore deeper into the ruins, Brother Christo draws his bow, nocks an arrow and establishes a watch over those in front ready to provide cover fire if and when necessary.

As the elven priest stands ready to defend his friends, the holy man keeps his eyes and ears focused on the surrounding environment watching and listening for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual.

Urd's nose wrinkled in disgust at the stink of orc leavings. Still, this had been a dwarf citadel before the current infestation and she gave the wall a closer look just in case. Having only one way to enter the archer's nest didn't make much sense to her (even if it might to the orcs).

OOCTaking 20 on Search for a total of 26 (or 28 due to Stonecunning) on the wall.

Urd spends a good 20 minutes squinting at the walls and running her fingers along cracks in the stone. Her careful examination pays off, as she notices a secret door on the west wall of the passage. The dust in the area could make her wonder if the orcs even know it's there.

Brother Christo smiles when Urd faces down the orcs' filth to find a hidden secret door in the dead-end tunnel, whose existence was fairly obvious given the logic of Dwarven construction.

As before, the Elven Priest has his bow at the ready while keeping his senses focused on the surrounding environs watching and listening for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual.

The briefest of satisfied smiles crossed Urd's face as her persistence paid off. But a thought struck her and she turned to the others, asking quietly "How fares everyone's strength and spells? Given that it seems that the orcs never knew about this door, behind it may be a safe place to camp in the belly of the beast, as it were..."
