The Stone Tooth

"The passage is clear," began the dwarven scout as she shut the door closed again. "But I would highly recommend we fortify this room to make camp. After, of course, we make sure the secret passages we came out of are safely shut and covered."

And Urd waited for the the others to make any suggestions or rebuttals.

Sugrin wrinkles his nose at the corpses laying around the room. These orcs stink bad enough as it is. I can't imagine what the smell like by morning. He frowns heavily at the thought of bunking down with a bunch of dead orcs. Bad enough we have to sleep in their chambers, he muses silently.

Brother Christo Vanleaf, Grey Elf Bard-Cleric

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=19, Touch=14, FF=17 / HP=19/19 / Init=2 / Saves: Fort=4, Reflex=5, Will = 6  ________________________________________________________________________

After Urd safely opens the portal and determines that the far side hallway is clear, Brother Vanleaf nods affirmatively when the Dwarven scout closes the door and suggests fortifying it so we can use the chamber as a safe room in which to rest, and then says in a lowered voice, "That sounds good."

"We should be able to use the contents of this room to make a temporary barricade on our side of the portal since the door won't lock and can even keep the best of the trade goods, if any exist, stashed in the secret passageway on the other side of this chamber if anyone thinks they are worth it," Christo adds with a smile at Urd's solid strategy.

Nodding with a smile at Sugrin's concerns, the Elven holy man says, "I agree. We should move them out of here and at least beyond the secret passage, just in case we need to hide in it. It would be optimum if we can dump them into the chasm with the other bodies, but that would take the efforts of all to move the bodies and to help provide cover fire, if needed."

spacer.pngThe prospect of sleeping next to dead orcs does not appeal to Gerbimble either.
"Let's at least drag them down the stairs into the next room. We can use their weapons to set up a sound trap to alert us if the other door opens."

Slowly, carefully rising to her feet, the dwarven scout once more crept to the door leading to that unexplored passage to see if she could hear any new movement going on. "Gerbimble, can you sense anything out there?" She asked.

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=19, Touch=14, FF=17 / HP=19/19 / Init=2 / Saves: Fort=4, Reflex=5, Will = 6  ________________________________________________________________________

After sitting upright and resting in a light reverie for much of the night, Brother Christo awakens before the sun is set to rise in the east and begins his daily ritual consisting of stretching and dancing, martial exercises while quietly singing, followed by deep meditation and silent prayers which leads to renewal and restoration of his priestly powers.

Rising from his ministrations as the rest of the party stirred awake, the holy man eats a quick breakfast consisting of dried blueberries, venison jerky and a fresh onion, all of which is washed down with warm yet fresh water from his leather water skin. After double-checking his equipment and weapons, the Elven cleric silently approaches the door to be investigated and listens.

After attempting to hear anything of interest on the other side of the portal, Christo will quietly back away and whisper his findings, if any, to his colleagues as the holy man draws his long bow and nocks a razor-sharp arrow while he moves into a position to easily cover his colleagues as they work their skills on exploring more of the dungeon that lies beyond the doorway.

spacer.pngGerbimble regards Urd with a quizzical look.
"I'm a priest, not a Seer or a psychic. I have no idea what senses you want me to use for this."
The gnome shrugs and puts his ear to the door, like the dwarf, trying to hear if there is any commotion outside the room.

Sugrin suddenly closes the book he was reading; he had woken earlier, giving himself time for a light breakfast and to freshen up a bit before preparing his magic for the day.

I guess dwarves just can't tell us gnomes apart, he he. He flashes a gleeful smile and moves over to the door by Gerbimble, reaching out with his Earth SenseEarth Sense

Sugrin steps back, from the portal. I think the coast is clear, he says with a not to Urd.

Urd returned the nod. But, casting another quick glance of her own towards the statue, she pulled out her tools to check if there might be another secret passage or the like nearby before she would start to creep down the hallway.

Brother Vanleaf covers Urd as he opens the door, following Surgrin's inquiry using his 'earth-sense' which correctly indicated that the other side of the portal was free and clear of other creatures.

However, as the party's lead scout continues to explore beyond the door the Elven holy man will reposition so that he can continue to cover Urd with his well-worn trusty old long bow.

Even while providing his companion with potential cover fire as Urd works his craft, Christo will also keep his ears and eyes focused on the perimeter, watching and listening for any sights or sounds of movement or anything unusual.
