About This Game

This will be a 200-Power Point Mutants & Masterminds Third edition one-shot for 4+ players. There will be a few house-rules that I'm sure players will appreciate. Players will be required to post at least three times a week as I want to get through this. Finally. Maybe. Mechanically M&M is a largely non-lethal system but for this one-shot lethality is very much on the table. The setting: Earth-7642; this alternate modern-day Earth is a combination of both Marvel and DC universes with the Justice League, Avengers, Teen Titans, X-Men and many other superheroes coexisting in their defense of Earth-7642's universe. Due to the assassination of Senator Kelly, everything went pear-shaped and now a massive army of Sentinels control the United States and threaten the entire planet. Players can make an original superhero or play a canon superhero of either Marvel or DC comics. As usual all superheroes require GM approval, players will need to reference the GM-provided setting information and PCs must be willing to work with other PCs to save the planet (no lone-wolves). Interested players can check into the Setting and Character Creation threads to get started. This will not be the usual superhero setting instead everything will have a strong sense of HORROR as the Sentinels have turned the U.S. into a nightmare. This adventure is purely player driven rather than having a linear plot-line. You decide where we go and what we do. If you like superheroes, horror and a faster PbP pace let's do this!

Mutants & Masterminds 3e

Detailed Description

A Senate Committee Hearing was chaired by Senator Robert Kelly to address the growing mutant community in the United States. Prof. Charles Xavier and Dr. Moira MacTaggert were in attendance to champion the mutant cause. Over the last year, Kelly had been a proponent of legislation requiring adult mutants and parents of child mutants to register their identity and abilities. Xavier and MacTaggert along with certain Civil Liberties groups argued the legislation would violate Privacy rights. While agreeing with the privacy provisions, Sen. Kelly argued the existence of mutants posed a clear and present danger to the people of the United States. Something needed to be done.

The Senate meeting was interrupted by the appearance of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants! They assassinated Sen. Kelly, Xavier and MacTaggert before a live national audience, throwing the United States into a period of social chaos!

spacer.png

Within a few years, Henry Peter Gyrich, an anti-mutant reactionary, was elected president and advanced legislation that essentially made mutants second-class citizens! Registration was law! While the president's opponents argued successfully to have the legislation struck down by the Supreme Court, the President and his army of national supporters remained determined to solve the mutant threat!

spacer.png

Consequently, the following years were plagued with civil unrest. Humans attacking mutants, increased anti-mutant propaganda, political in-fighting that brought no answers, and a growing divide between the nation’s human and mutant populations.

spacer.png

While many groups like S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers and Fantastic Four argued for the mutant cause, they found little success against the massive national anxiety opposed to the mutant population. Even heroic mutants like the X-Men found themselves assaulted by the very populace they fought to defend! The U.S. was spiraling out of control and few could understand how terrible the consequences would become!

spacer.png

They came like a storm. Hundreds of them.

The Sentinels overwhelmed the X-Men. The Avengers. The Fantastic Four. None of the heroes could stop them. Not for long. Within weeks, the superhero enclave of New York City had been defeated and in their place, the robots established their bases. The Sentinels continued across the country: San Francisco, Miami, Houston, Chicago. All the major cities with large mutant populations fell. Even when the U.S. military intervened, it too fell under the Sentinels' tactical superiority.

Over months time, the United States fell into two regions: the unaffected "life as normal" cities, and the Sentinel-controlled larger cities. Adjacent to the razed metropolises were internment camps where captured metahumans awaited a fate worse than death.

Despite the bleak scenario, some mutants and supporting groups operate around the country as a relentless army determined to overcome the Sentinels. The terminators’ war to exterminate Mutantkind has raged for decades but the final battle to save Earth from a nuclear holocaust is about to be fought …

  1. What's new in this game
  2. And almost immediately after I wrote that my home internet went down. Got a few tweeks in. This still on?
  3. Excited to see how they work out and if I either horribly underspent or overspent.
  4. I do think it makes more sense if Bats knows *some* of the things before we kick off, but I do agree that in-game investigation shenanigans does sound fun. Let's make a few tweeks.
  5. I’m interested to see how these house rules shake out. Following.
  6. Disregard that. Getting the info from in-game investigation works better.
  7. Are the races listed in the sheet the only options? Because I wanted to field Etrigan the demon, and he kind of falls outside of those.
  8. Question: So no PL but did you have any sort of numerical benchmarks in mind?

  13. The @#$$#^ing Juggernaut baby! Cain may be tireless, but he is suspecting that his luck may run out, each encounter with the Sentinels gets harder and harder and he fears they will eventually find a counter to an unstoppable force.
  14. The Juggernaut! Real Name: Cain Marko Aliases: The Juggernaut Race: Demonically empowered mutant Place of Birth: Madrid, Spain (Air Force Base) Group Affiliations: The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, The X-Men, New Excalibur, The Exiles , The Thunderbolts, The Exemplars Origin: Cain Marko is the son of Kurt Marko, who becomes Charles Xavier's stepfather when he marries Sharon Xavier after the death of her husband Brian, for which Kurt is partially responsible. Kurt Marko favors Charles and abuses his own son, Cain. Cain resents Charles and bullies him frequently. Cain Marko and his step-brother Charles serve in the US Army and are stationed in Korea. Marko finds a hidden temple dedicated to the entity Cyttorak. On entering, Marko finds and holds a huge ruby and reads the inscription on the stone aloud: "Whosoever touches this gem shall be granted the power of the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak! Henceforth, you who read these words, shall become ... forevermore ... a human juggernaut!" The gem channels Cyttorak's power into Marko. The transformation causes a cave-in, and the character is buried and presumably killed, not being heard from again until a sudden assault on the X-Men's headquarters Height: 9'5" Weight: 1900lbs Hair: Shaved Eyes: Dark Blue Apparent Age: Late 50s Apparent Gender: Male Unusual Features: Huge helmet wearing engine of destruction Complications: Motivation: Defeating the Sentinels Motivation: (Power)Cain Marko is an arrogant blowhard, and enjoys being the most powerful individual around. He takes challenges seriously. Responsibility: (Overconfident)- Cain's so tough that he fears nothing, even when he should. People who prove themselves stronger than him (like Onslaught) tend to leave him emotionally broken for a time. He secretly fears it will only be a matter of time before the Sentinels find a way to put him down. Enemy (Charles Xavier)- Marko bullied Xavier when they were children, and was still hostile to the man at an older age. 15. Associated Characters and Brief Modified Histories: Superman: Sometimes called the first superhero, though more accurately perhaps the first to receive widespread media attention Lara's father had been active since before WWII but even as he approached fifty years of uninterrupted service showed no signs of aging or slowing down. Physically at least, the upheavals of the 60s and 70s found the Man of Steel struggling ideologically against rising figures with vastly different views of what constituted "truth, justice, and the American way" even before Gyrich and his ilk came to power. Yet if his public image dimmed somewhat he was still easily among the world's most beloved heroes, his city of Metropolis was the safest in the nation even, and his personal life was one of great joy as Clark Kent married and became a father. When the Sentinels launched they filled Metropolis' skies but the men of steel did not engage Superman directly. Instead they released the monster Doomsday, a beast they could not control but managed to find sleeping in the Earth. Only when the veteran Superman defeated the beast did they move in for the kill. Lois Lane: Began working for the Daily Planet in the 1960s, and made her name as an investigative reporter. Famously, and finally, demystified the Superman in a series of award winning interviews, breaking down his once famous reluctance to engage with the press. She never told the world how she discovered his identity fairly early, and Clark and Lois formed a successful partnership for many years. Finally agreed to marry the poor man in the mid-70s. After her husband's death she became an early leader of the resistance and saw little of her daughter in this time before dying when Lara was 8 years old under unclear circumstances. Jimmy Olsen: Last of the Daily Planet mainstays still alive, living retired and greatly aged in Florida. Stayed a photographer for a series of publications. Never became a resistance fighter but still some of the most famous unauthorized photos of the late 80s and 90s came from his lens. Lara visits him every once in awhile and he delights in telling her stories of the good 'ol days. Lex Luthor: Reinvented himself from 'mad' scientist to corporate mogul near the turn of the Millennium, courtesy of a clone body. Lex Corp is a household name and his its founder the face of everything the Sentinels made great about America again. All lies though. Beneath his socially acceptable and extremely successful façade there is one burning truth Lex will never forget nor forgive: they took Superman from him. Whatever he's planning it won't be good for the Sentinels and their supporters, whether it is good for anyone else is another question. Has tried several times to recruit Lara but she doesn't know what he's after so has turned him down every time.
  16. History: Lara was barely old enough to know her father before he died. Her memories of him are just disjointed images really, his warm smile, the big hands that held her up so gently, flying over the plains riding on his back. These were the days of the Gyrich administration and the rising anti-mutant storm, people who undoubtedly would have considered Lara as at best no different then a mutant, but perhaps something much much worse. Certainly those mired in their delusions of humanity's past had nothing but hate for the Man of Tomorrow or any other alien, even if mutants made easier and more plentiful victims, and knew that their was perhaps no single greater obstacle to their plans. Lara would not witness her father's death either. Whisked away from Metropolis she wound up in the care of her maternal grandfather on a certain former farm in the middle of Kansas. Lara saw little of her mother in those years.

  18. Agreed. Definitely not the time for campy, jokey, silver-age Adam West Batman. This is closer to Nolanverse/DKR where he openly compares things to Warfare and acts like it. Comes off as deeply cynically to the point of Nihilism, but is actually Idealistic too the point that it *burns*. In my head, Gotham is a major city that's gotten off *relatively* light compared to other major cities - because *someone* has wired it up so that it's just about impossible for a Sentinel Patrol to enter city limits without everyone knowing about it almost immediately. The Batplane, Batmobile, and Batboat all still exist but they're just as often used to smuggle mutants and metahumans out then to bring villains into Arkham. [Gotham as a possible hub for a new Underground Railroad?] Which doesn't say much, granted. Batman's rogues still exist but now they're either all dead, fled to somewhere else on the planet (often with Batman's help), or actually an ally against the Sentinels. And with the dead ones, "They honored me with their Sacrifice - but the War goes on...". Almost makes me think about banking into "rumor has it that he's considering a Presidential Run on an Anti-Sentinel platform", not because he thinks it would actually accomplish anything but because he's seen how it's giving people actual Hope.
  19. I was basing her off of the YJ Superboy. He's very different from the comic Superboy who is a tactile telekinetic. I know you said no DCU or MCU, but I thought drawing from the cartoons was alright. Her STR 9, Protection 8, Immunity to cold, heat, and radiation, speed, leaping, and part of her enhanced senses come from that version of Conner Kent. -- As for the claws, I'll have to think. Because without the strength bonus, the claws are useless and make no sense.
  20. Ok framework is done. Unfortunately, I am not proficient enough with M&M3 to make changes based on your revisions. Can you glance over and see what I need to do. Mahalo! Jagr
  21. Name: Christopher Salvatore Character pitch: A powerful mutant born to a devout christian family, who saw him and his powers as signs of the second coming. As he grew older, and the world grew darker, people were drawn to the new beacon of light that was raised in the rural midwest. Chris struck out on his own, trying to escape his growing cult, his role in a religion he did not believe in, looking to make his own name in the world. But it seemed that the stronger and farther away he grew, the more people where drawn to him - a phenomenon that hasn't stopped to this day. Powers and abilities: Im thinking that Armageddon's main powers are disaster/blessing manipulation - a powerful area of effect that he can narrow down to specific locations or empower for a couple of monents at the time.
  22. Strength-based Damage for her claws is prohibited. Just call it Damage 5 or higher if your like. And if she's part Keyptonian where's her powers?
  23. Yeah we need Bruce in a major way. You'll need to RP him as you know Batman. He's a determined *hole 🙄 I'll have additional info for you.
