Hugging her old boss's head in her palms, Signy kissed his chin with the top of her knee, sending him stumbling off balance.

 

In the meantime, Bertram started to ransack the place, yanking down one of the leather tapestries from the wall before the office's occupants have even been subdued.

 

Poking her polearm into the middle of the scuffle, Zoya cuts Jabral's right arm with the blade of her bardiche, which drew some sharp condemnation from Cimri as soon as it happened, albeit too late. "What do you think you're doing! Get that idioting Absalomian horse circumcision stick out of here!"

 

But the damage had already been done. The tannery owner has already fallen onto his office floor. Pivoting to divert his rage quickly, Silas kicks the little dog back and follows through with a stab with his rapier, effectively silencing the Taldan Spaniel after a blood curdling yelp, its body falling in a lump beside that of his owner.

Louslik Tannery  Office

spacer.png"Ebeti!Idiots!" Cimri cursed over the sound of distant barking coming from the workhouse, reverbrating across the tannery's yard. It seems evident that her patience is beginning to wear thin. "Hurry up and grab all the money, and let's blow this shithole!"

 

Shoving the others aside, Signy crouched down to assess the small dog's condition, only to recall that she knows next to nothing about healing, forget veterinary healing. Archie is alive, and unconscious, but beyond that, there's not a hell of a lot the brawler can discern at this time.

 

Besides the two leather tapestries that are probably worth a pretty copper, Bertram also pulls down a set of antique tanning tools from the wall, which bear the letters "L.T." etched on the handles. After a bit more looking, what with shuffling between one another and what not, the group manages to find a small lockbox under Louslik's desk.

She crouched down to examine the man, he seemed unconscious but alive. She muttering, "Strange, it doesn't usually leave them breathing. Hmph."

As requested she put away the horse circumcision stick and set about looting the place, paying close attention first to the promising looking crates she'd noticed earlier.

Inside the Tannery

Zoya looked at Signy and her smile turned to an expression that suggested the brawler had grown two heads. "Heal? The ... dog? I mean he is adorable and a very good boy but .. won't he just start biting us again? "

But it became clear that Signy had him by the collar and was going to take any nips, she added, "Fine!" in a tone that suggested it wasn't really fine.

"But I'm no priestess, hah could you imagine what god would have me for a servant? I have one spell, if I use it on the dog and one of you steps on a nail out there or something, you're hopping back."

And so, Zoya found herself ... healing a cute little spaniel and wondering where exactly her life had taken the turn that led her down this path. She stepped back immediately and withdrew to search those crates as the dog started snapping and snarling again.

If the man will live, we need to go before he wakes or before the dogs attract more attention. Don't spend too long picking out what leather to grab."

Louslik Tannery

After a small bout of arguing, the two women manage to gently restrain the Taldan Spaniel and revive it. Initially confused, it yapped along with the faint noise of Abbie's barkings for some moments before it settled down in Signy's arms.

 

Cimri was mid- opening her wrap of thieve's tools again when Bertram decided he would take the lockbox wholesale, to which she silently shrugged an expression of nonchalance, perhaps even unspoken respect.

 

As Zoya exits the office back out to the northwestern corner of the work yard, she spies a low wooden platform there with a number of crates stacked on top of it. Most of them are filled with messy, unprocessed animal skins, but one crate amongst them is branded with the name "Remesiana Constabulary", inside of which are nine suits of studded leather armour, one of which looks to be of masterwork quality craftsmanship.

"Good boy, gonna put you in with Abbie okay?" Signy cradled the dog and carried him over to where Abbie was tied up, fastening him next to her. "You were some of the only good bits of working here." Giving them both one last scratch behind the ears she went over to the crates of leather she had spotted and carried them outside and set them by the door. "If anyone is able to grab a crate those are worth a fair bit, good quality." She looked around the yard, trying to see if there were any handcarts that would let them really make Jabral regret his decisions.

Silas admittedly wasn't planning on killing Louslik, but he wasn't going to mourn him too much. Or at all. He picks up the crate bound for the Constabulary and taunts Louslik as he's on the way to doing so. "I don't know if you're dead or not, but if you happen to still be alive, just know that this all could've been avoided if you had chosen to pay your taxes instead of trying to cheat your country."
