OOC discussion

@prophane

Would you like for us to craft a posting template or do you think that OSE (and being a One-Shot) makes this simple enough for easy reference back to the CharSheets?

If 'yes,' where would you like us to place them?

I think a nice, simple posting template including name and pic works for me. I think just make them and put them in your first post to clone when needed.

something like this...

actually, lets add AC and Saving Throws, since those are things we'll potentially need to reference more often.

I do think it's nice when all the posts look similar, feel free to copy mine and edit to your character. you can put sample ones here in this thread if you like.

we're waiting for @cailano to officially join the game then we will begin. if they show up this afternoon I might be able to get it kicked off today, otherwise tomorrow.

I do have a live GURPS game to run in a bit, and dinner to eat as well.

The adventure incorporates "Banter Cards" to help kick things off between the characters as the adventure begins. I will include these banter cards (and make up some of my own for the two characters I created) and share them with you privately on each character sheet post. I will also post them all (privately) here. As we begin the adventure, you can use these things, along with whatever background you have come up with for your character to get the conversation going.

@Vedast i might ask you to drop the fieldsets. I use my phone for a lot of gaming and sometimes the fieldsets really jack up my view, making it impossible to read on the phone. Im not saying you have to get rid of them, but it might happen.

No problem, just let me know. I tend to like them better than the spoiler buttons for separating IC from OOC etc., but certainly no problem dropping them if there is a technical issue.

Ed. I've updated the post template: I hadn't realized, actually, that the entire thing had been in a fieldset not merely the OOC window. Anyway, hopefully now things will work for your phone.

Btw, if this is helpful, my time zone is: UTC-5.

Let me know if that all looks right. I kinda combined both template posts and added a little more. I do have a few questions being new to OSE -- how barebones are we running the system? I saw @Vedast added a specialization and some to hit bonuses to his attack rolls that I'm a bit confused on where those values are coming from. I know they're optional rules but wanted to know what all do I need to read up on?

I checked with GM earlier in the character selection thread about weapon proficiency and weapon specialization. See Monday, 1JAN posts.

In a nutshell, our martial characters would have four weapon proficiencies, but could combine two of them into a single specialization: this gives +1 ATK and +1 DAM.

I have the separate CF/AF individual books, not the Players/Referee tomes. But from p. 53 of the AF-Characters book:

Weapon Specialisation
Martial characters may optionally be
allowed to specialise in a single, specific
type of weapon. This requires dedicating
two weapon proficiency “slots” to a single
weapon type. For example, a 1st level
martial character is normally proficient
with 4 weapons. If the player chooses to
specialise in a weapon, the character is
only proficient with 3 weapons (the specialised
weapon plus two others).
When attacking with a specialised weapon,
the character gains a +1 bonus to
attack and damage rolls.

PS The penalty for use of a non-proficient weapon is:

A character using a weapon that they are
not proficient with incurs a penalty to
attack rolls. Martial characters suffer a
–2 penalty, semi-martial characters a –3
penalty, and non-martial characters a –5
penalty.

So your +3 to hit and dmg is coming from being level 3, then?

His STR is 17 (+2). So +2 (STR) +1 (specialization) = +3 total with the long axe.

With a hand axe, his ATK/DMG bonus is +2. Thown, it would be +0/+2, though I'm not sure, whether STR bonus to thrown weapons for damage (only) is a AD&D thing or OSE or B/X also?).

Does this help?

Example:

So Reigenleif has +0 STR and +1 DEX. Let's consider her taking specialization in spear as an example.

Melee: ATK would be +0 (STR) + 1 (spec.) = +1. +1 DMG ditto.

Thrown: ATK would be +1 (DEX) + 1 (spec.) = +2 ATK. DMG would be +0 STR + 1 (spec.) = +1

Or, you could specialize with the broadsword, or not specialize at all and take another weapon proficiency. You have x4 (or x3 with specialization).
