So, to recap so far:

Home:
-Mandons: traveled a lot
-Valandil: Not sure, presumably traveled a lot
-Jack: Zhentil Keep, NorthEast of Shadowdale
-Lirion: Border forest, North of Shadowdale
-Amarandé: Silverymoon, Far West of Shadowdale
-Kordannaghlan: Not sure
-Theoath: Shadowdale

Mandons and Valandil have known eachother for a while (not sure how they met). I'm not sure why Lirion left the Border Forest, although he's the only other person who mentioned seeking adventure, so perhaps he traveled with these two for a while (perhaps in a previous party? Dunno, up to you guys). At some later point, they came across Jack (did @Chaz Hoosier confirm this?). I mostly suggest this order because both Jack and Lirion hail from north of Shadowdale, so perhaps this pre-party was based somewhere up there, although it's a pretty remote part of the map... not sure.

Because Theoath is based in shadowdale, it makes sense for him to be a later addition to the group unless we've been around the local area for a while. I myself would probably be a later addition, seeing as I traveled from further away and came up from south of Shadowdale; maybe during one of the party's heroic outings that Lhaeo heard about, somebody got hurt and y'all decided to recruit the next priest you saw as you headed to a nearby tavern? Or maybe Theoath and I already knew eachother, and we both met up with the larger party when we were both trying to do the same heroic deed? I don't have anything from Kordannaghlan yet, but once we've got everyone else and a clearer timeline it'll be easy to slot him in.

This is all just speculation on my part from bits and pieces people have already said, so please don't feel like I'm deciding people's backstories for them. Just laying everything out in one post to make the decisions slightly easier, while suggesting a possible timeline. An alternative is that Lirion instead ventured west into the Anauroch where he met me, and we traveled together in the desert before heading to shadowdale. Entirely up to you guys

Solid stuff! I'm happy with both alternatives for Lirion as he moves a lot looking for adventures ($) and knowledge to gather (spells)

Love the summary, thanks; that helps a lot.

Personally, I think it sounds best as a kind of three-way combination over time.

As noted, Mandons and Valandil were already together following previous exploits up north, when they found Jack and he joined them.

Amarande and Lirion make a good pair, with Lirion's combat skills complementing Amarande's more ascetic style, and both elfy types.

That leaves Theo and Kord, who could also have been associates prior to meeting other grouplets.

If everyone is happy with this, then all we really need now is a 'big thing' that brought the three grouplets together; something we did as a larger group that made our name and reputation in the area, and forged us into a single team.

Since then we can have gone about our individual business for a while, before answering the call to meet up again for a new mission.

So you're suggesting that the game start, and the reason only two of you were robbed, is that we're all actually meeting up the morning after the robbing to answer Lhaeo's summons? The two of you merely got there early for an evening of debauchery that left you mildly poorer then before? Seems like a solid place to start.

I'm happy having picked up Lirion in the Anauroch; horrible place, and the locals hate magic, so it makes sense that I'd have latched onto him.

This is less of a suggestion and more of an observation, but there's supposedly a Zhentarim caravan route cutting across the Anauroch North of the border forest. With Jack's knowledge and disgust of the Zhents, the 'big thing' could have happened there? Personally, I think it makes more sense for it to happen in or around Shadowdale itself, to include Theoath and explain why Lhaeo knows about it, but it's better to have all the options.

One final observation, but I find it curious that we in particular are being recruited for this specific job: the rescuing of somebody important after a failed excursion. Seems oddly specific, so maybe our past should be related somehow?

Looks like Kordannaghlan is from Hillsfar, Northeast of Shadowdale and pretty close to Zhentil Keep. Not sure how that fits in with everyone else, but it would be pretty easy for him and Jack to have met up early on if they both want that; two thieves, fleeing their respective homes and meeting on the road.

It's the Road to El Dorado all over again, I just know it

Elsewise there's a pretty clear road from Hillsfar to Shadowdale through Voonlar and the northwestern region of Cormanthor, so perhaps Kordannaghlan fled in that direction and met Theoath? Dunno, up to you guys

@cybersavant I see you have labelled your character open for suggestions. I have one for you to consider, but I'm not trying to push it on you, just raising it for you to take a view on.

The party is looking quite heavy on fighters, with two specialists and a paladin, and two other multi-class fighters. But we only have one cleric, and that could mean we're going to be a bit thin on healing and other stuff like that. I see you have the stats to make either cleric/thief or druid/thief if you wanted to, and either of those would give you rather more power than the fighter/thief combo you've gone for. Just a thought.

I will say not to sweat the healing thing too much, as I said the module is pretty generous as it's designed an introductory module. But you can never have enough clerics!

Taking the afternoon off to spend time with my family today, will log on tomorrow morning and review characters one final time before making it 100% clear who's in. Will err on the side of accepting more players as inevitably people drop off for various reasons. If I don't get the first post up tomorrow for some reason, will be early Monday.

Will move the game along at a good pace, at least 3-4 posts per week. I know sometimes it's hard to post if your characters don't have something to contribute directly, but I would definitely prefer that you post something (a little introspection, looking about the room during a conversation, whatever) so that I know you're all still around and that you've read the posts.

Looking forward to getting started! Thank you all!

So... the big thing that brought us all together and made our reputation in the area...

Some months back, a nearby community began to suffer a terrible curse. Children were disappearing in the night. Just one to begin with, but then another, and another, until almost a dozen had been mysteriously taken. Nobody knew who or what was responsible and the village was in a state of panic and dread. At this time our three small groups all happened to be in the village; two just by coincidence as they were travelling through, but the third because Theo the paladin had heard of the strange disappearances and was determined to find out what was behind it and stop any more from being taken.

Theo spoke in the local inn to try to gather help, and so impassioned were his words that the rest of us decided to offer him our help. So we formulated a plan, to set up a network of watchers over all the remaining children, and when someone noticed something amiss, gather the rest to follow and deal with it. True enough, that very night another child was taken, but this time it was witnessed. A skulking creature crept into the child's room and stole it away in a sack. The watcher was our thief, Jack, and he followed the creature back to its lair, a secret opening in a nearby rocky canyon.

Returning to gather the rest of the party, we went back to the secret opening and found a way in, where we discovered a small tribe of grimlocks with a shaman preparing to sacrifice the dozen children to their abominable god in a ritual deep in the heart of their caves. After a heroic battle we slew the monsters and rescued the children, returning them all safely to their families and the acclaim of the whole village.

What do you think?

backstory sounds cool.

there is no multiclass druid/thief allowed; and i rarely play clerics; besides, spells are too hard to keep track of in pbp

[ in a Pf game with archetypes, that char could be fun to play, especially with shape changing ]

one of my favorite characters from way back was a MUD [ muser/druid ]

Hi all! Longtime 1st and 2nd edition player, happy to get back into playing again. I've always wanted to play through some classic modules, and excited to get started. I've created a placeholder for my character, which I will work on Sunday (today).
