There are no obvious traps evident, though on the back of the warrior statue Kordannaghlan discovers the faint outline of a small door etched into the base. It is obvious the door was meant to be seen. Running a hand along the outline of the door, the gnome discovers the latch, a small bump near the bottom right corner.

Frustrated by the chaos of melee, you regroup and lash out at the small, skeletal foes. They continue to press their attack despite losses, mindlessly rending at any exposed skin or unarmored area. Amarandé's dogs leap into the fray, gnashing at one skeletal spider and tearing it apart.

Mandons retreats from the melee, quaffing another healing elixir. This time the potency of the brew is felt, and he is greatly restored. Meanwhile, Alarim and Valandil team up to dispose of one of the creatures, while Theoath smashes another with his mace. Kordannaghlan is unable to effectively connect with any of the creatures, as is Jack--but their attacks leave Amarandé to crush another one of the creatures. It staggers back to its bony legs, but the three hounds leap into the fray again, this time each finding a target. They latch on to the bony legs, whipping the creatures around and gnawing on them until immobile.

Only two of the creatures remain. You effectively dodge their counterattacks and corner them by virtue of sheer numbers, then as a group smash them into bony bits. Once again, silence descends on the tomb, broken only by the low growl of the hounds and your own heavy breathing.

The door to the secret chamber remains ajar, and the corridor to the larger room still lies ahead, lit by glowing crimson orbs.

OOC: Mandons restored 8 hit points this time, and all attacks were dodged! You have won the encounter, please let me know how you intend to proceed.

"well, somehow we made it through that horror..." asserts Lirion as he checks his wounds. Nothing too bad, but he could make use of some healing since the exploration of the tomb has just started. "there's still this chamber where this pile of creeping bones came from to explore.." his sight pierces straight ahed looking at the room

Theo makes sure to smash all the undead bones and pray to his goddess Chauntea: "May the dust of these bones never again plague the world of the living."

OoC: Just making sure all the undead remains are crushed and "consecrated" with a pray to his goddess after the battle. It is his way to give thanks for the battle being one against the undead.

Whatever the trapped door was intended to do, the thought of what would happen to you if you were all somehow incapacitated against the skeletal spiders leaves you with a chill. Those with infravision step forward to examine the room first, and finding no other sign of life or heat signature, indicate that it's okay for others to follow up with a proper light source.

Stale air fills your nostrils as half the group passes through the secret door. Light spilling in from held torches or lanterns reveals a chamber filled with books and scroll tubes. A large desk is pushed securely against the northwest wall. A cursory glance at the bookcases reveals that they contain a variety of works common throughout the Realms, though there are tomes of various sizes with different bindings and covers. Several of the books and scrolls scattered around the chamber crumble and turn to dust as soon as they are handled.

The still-intact desk is made of oak and carved in an intricate vinework design. There are several drawers, all without apparent locks, except for one--the lower left-hand drawer is secured with a very rusty lock that looks like it could be broken easily.

No other exit to the room is apparent, it looks as though this was an abandoned--if secret--research room.

Theo seems excited to hear of the prospects of old tomes about, and while it would only serve as entertainment or curiosity he thinks if he could find a nice old book for his mistress, the Lady Silverhand, then it would make a nice gift for her collection. He asks his companions "Is it safe to touch these books? Are they trapped?"

OoC: I would like to find some nice books to take back to Lady Storm Silverhand as a gift; of course if they are valuable to the casters first then that is another story, but if they are not then I would like to take back a couple with me.

He knows 3 other languages besides Common, and I never got around to asking your opinion on what other languages a simple farmer would have learned before embarking on his calling to be a champion of the dogma of Chauntea. If you have some suggestions let me know and I will mark those as learned languages. I don't want to just select any especially if it would not make any sense knowing them. Obviously any that are regional to the races of Shadowdale would make sense; also maybe some language of the clergy to properly pray to Chauntea.

Having hung back slightly, Amarandé follows behind the others into the laboratory. He takes a deep breath, smelling the stale musk, before breaking out in a fit of coughing. "Though I couldn't speak for our more qualified friends as to whether these books are trapped or not, I would still be careful with what you touch, Theoath. With the age of these books, and that smell... it might take some specialised handling to recover much of what is hidden here. I would advise you to look first of the heavier-bound tomes and the sturdier scroll cases, that age might have been held at bay."

With what could almost be called a skip in his step, he sweeps over to a different bookshelf and casts a hungry eye over everything there, following his own advice and only touching those that don't look like they'll disintegrate upon contact.

"Let's see what we have in here, shall we?" Kordannaghlan walks to the desk first and examines the locked drawer for traps before fiddling with the lock. After that he checks all the other drawers before heading over to the shelves.

Lirion is clearly amazed by the collection of tomes and knowledge in there, he's scanning around to find something he can recognize by languages, and hopefully some scroll of arcane wisdom he might decypher and make his own...

Valandil sheathes his magic blade with practiced ease, his movements reflecting a sense of calm amidst the chaos of battle. With the immediate threat vanquished, he joins the others in scouring the room for hidden secrets.

His keen eyes scan the walls, searching for any signs of secret or concealed doors, his elven senses attuned to the slightest irregularities in the stone. Each step is deliberate, each glance methodical as he moves through the chamber, determined to uncover any hidden passages.

Once satisfied with their search for hidden doors, Valandil turns his attention to the books and scrolls scattered throughout the room. With careful scrutiny, he examines each tome, his keen intellect assessing their potential value and any hint of magic they may possess.
